Strava 'Bagging'

I train/get battered with a group that had a couple of national class riders and another rider who is knocking on the door of getting a pro contract. They all use Strava but despite their pedigree, are unable to top any local KOM's. Does make you wonder how anyone so good can be so unknown outside Strava? :roll:0

Are they going out to try and get segments though?
Unless you go out specifically with a segment in mind you're not going to get KOM regardless of how fast you are.0 -
^ This... When I go out to try and get a segment it is never at a sustainable pace in the context of the whole ride.0
-
Seemed to have managed a 3rd in the context of a (mud and rainfest) reliability ride.

probably because I was so fcked off with being cold, wet and covered in crap.0 -
Managed to get a 4th on a segment I've been targeting today -> had a big off 7 miles into a 30 mile group ride so turned around and came back to the segment with fresh legs (although my hip bloody hurt!)
Crash - http://app.strava.com/activities/27069205#485320449 - says I was doing 27mph when I came off
Segment - http://app.strava.com/activities/27069205#4853204550 -

Looks like a raging tailwind or sitting in a fast group?0 -
Not read the whole thread but a mate of mine suggested Strava should reset the KOMs every, say 12 month? It'd be funny come Jan 1st seeing everyone get their best bike out and head to the hills0

The power trace has all the hallmarks of drafting a bus.Jibbering Sports Stuff: http://jibbering.com/sports/0 -
I've ridden the segment a couple of times, tailwind, drafting a lorry or bus and the legs and lungs of an Elite cyclist giving it the full beans :P0

Very cold today - but thankfully dry with sunshine and a bright blue sky.0 -
When did Strava start showing 'suffer score' for non premium members? My last ride was 'EPIC' 4150
-
Someone did an impersonation of a BMW and went up a KOM of mine at 50mph... flagging it , Strava annotated the segment as 'dangerous' and I opened a ticket to explain it was not dangerous just a motorised ride.
Unless I went about it wrong, flagging a ride now effectively shuts down a segment.

My KOM is back however, ready for a new assault by genuine contenders.0 -
Back in the summer, I made a segment for the marked 'blue route' (read, family trail) in the forest near me, just to chart my progress. I noticed the other day that someone had beaten my time, so now I'm itching to get home to my hardtail and take take it back!0

Are you sure you (or maybe someone else who saw the duff ride) didn't flag the segment by mistake, rather than the ride?Jibbering Sports Stuff: http://jibbering.com/sports/0 -
I stand corrected, cheers0

A nice way to start the new year: http://app.strava.com/activities/35108299
Happy with a 5th place on a nasty little hill too!0 -
Did anyone bag any KOMs in the ridiculous winds over the last few days.
I was looking out the window thinking I could smash some of those hills while I sipped a lemsip and drifted in and out of my sweaty feverish sleep.0 -

I was thinking about it last sunday but opened the curtains to see it blowing a gale and got back into bed0 -
60 miles today .. not a sausage
Wish they would use actual words on their app programme to stop start and pause the thing... like living in the matrix working out what the blamin symbols mean..
must be something to do with app developers being 6 and half I suppose0 -

I got one today on a 70km slog. Didn't even know there were any on the route I took but I ain't complaining0 -
Was one of those days for punctures as well... mine went a satisfyingly loud 'pisssht' that rightly scared a cat out of its skin... and stopped to help another victim0
-
North easterly wind forecast tomorrow, get out there and show them who's boss0

Mildly interesting article on strava I just stumbled upon: http://www.outsideonline.com/fitness/biking/How-Strava-Is-Changing-the-Way-We-Ride.html?page=1
Going to try and PR on a 4th Cat tomorrow.. haven't got high hopes but we'll see -> 24 miles into a 40 miler and I never have enough energy on morning rides :?0 -
A thinly veiled dig at those taking Strava and associated challenges a little too seriously :?:0

Is that aimed at me or the article? Because I love taking strava too seriously0
