well i have.. my mates arent too chuffed saying i rode them last year when i was faster and well theyre faster than me now at present so ive took a fair few KOMS from them using last years files lol
my argument is i still rode them fair and square...0 -

a mate of mine has set up a strava league on facebook featuring a different segment every week for 11 weeks - it did start as a uni group but all the local clubs are joining in and its resulted in over 20 riders taking on the hill so far this week
cracking idea!i need more bikes0 -

Of course you upload them - why wouldn't you?0 -
I wanna try KOM regents park and Mint St in London, looks like a hard one.0
-
MapMyRide have started a similar thing to segments called "courses"... As there aren't as many set up you can do what I have done and set up your local climbs
I have about 17 Koms now
...until everyone else gets on it of course.0 -

Don't know Regents Park but I imagine you have next to no chance if its anything like Richmond Park. London is full of segments though, pretty much wherever you ride, so also plenty to go for.0 -
I was surprised to find Richmond Park KOM is only currently around 24mph.0

No it's about 26. Still should be easy for you northerners...Jibbering Sports Stuff: http://jibbering.com/sports/0 -
how many koms does everyone have?
currently a disappointing 15 for me.... 20 is the goal but its changing daily!0 -

52 at the minute (although a couple have a QOM faster than me, but you still get it), I'm pretty sure the most any forum member has is 1071 (although QOM's mostly)... so some way to go for me.Jibbering Sports Stuff: http://jibbering.com/sports/0 -

Doubt I'll managed 26mph, I'll take it one step at a time, 21mph first and work up, I'd need to be in a good mood and feel good to do anything over 22mph and that is a rarity.
I've got about 4 pages of KOM's but their all worthless half of them are junk.
There is a segment I know I could easilly get, well a few, 24mph over Cable Street is easy assuming no stops, but damn it's impossible unless you're going through red lights or are waiting at red lights then sprinting over 30mph.0 -
That Mint Street one you mentioned looks achievable. Apparently I have ridden it before, but I'm way down the leaderboard - can't remember why I was riding that way and was obviously pootling...0

Hang on, have I missed something? Has willhub emigrated to London?0

I've written a guide to using the Garmin virtual partner (on an edge 800) to ride against the current KOM holder of any chosen segment.
The guide tells you how to:
Grab the segment data from Strava
load it on to your Garmin
how to set up the virtual partner
The article is called "Use your Garmin Virtual Partner to help get Strava KOM's"
http://bit.ly/RgcEb2
I hope people find it useful, and I'd welcome any feedback on how to improve the guide.Alan

Very good - nice one
Theres alaso a site where you can load your data and the data of the kom and compare speeds along the route so you can see the exact point where you are slower /faster and need to improve.
Its called racepace or racecape or somethingThe dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns
momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself.0 -
Raceshape - it's that site which provides the export tool in the article actually.
But I know the one you mean, that lets you see the difference between riders on a particular segment.
I included it in this other article, which incidentally is always the most popular post on my site http://www.scarletfire.co.uk/2012/06/tu ... api-tools/Alan

Veloviewer is also quite good.
Deadhead - does that work for 500? (does it even have a virtual partner?) - sorry, not had the chance to read it in full yet0 -

Veloviewer is indeed rather amazing.
I've not got a 500 but I believe it does have a VP function. So I would tentatively suggest the answer is yes.
Can any 500 users confirm?Alan

The 500 certainly has a training mode where you can ride a course against a virtual partner. On a route you've just created from a mapping site the VP seems to proceed at a steady pace but I presume that if it's a real activity the VP would change speed based on the previous ride. You can also adjust the VP speed by percentages, to set a harder or easier target.0
-
Why not just ride as fast as your can to give yourself a buffer if you take it, rather than only just beat it?
Your tactic for pacing won't depend on what the other guy did, but rather on the segment itself. All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!
