There was talk of Strava making top 10's more achievable for everyone0

Got to admire the dedication at these efforts of taking a KOM.
Approx 30mph tailwind yesterday and today.

My legs were ruined at the time too.. wonder how quick I would have gone with fresh legs
Got another one yesterday -> http://app.strava.com/activities/44125572#750466131
The way I see it.. its my reward for cycling 20 miles into a block headwind! I do want the direction to change so I can go on a different route though (nothing to do with wanting more KOMs)0 -
Agreed, getting a tad boring now cycling routes to avoid/ make best use of this easterly wind. Roads being dry is a massive bonus though.0

Theres a couple of climbs near me where i am in a top 10 position with a time of say 3min20, only a matter of seconds behind even the person in 2nd poisition but the guy leading has done it in about 1m30. Same guy both times with a ridiculous average speed of around 40mph going up hill?! what the hellhttp://www.snookcycling.wordpress.com - Reports on Cingles du Mont Ventoux, Alpe D'Huez, Galibier, Izoard, Tourmalet, Paris-Roubaix Sportive & Tour of Flanders Sportive, Amstel Gold Xperience, Vosges, C2C, WOTR routes....0

Just report it and they'll take the time down.0 -

Getting more miles in - the Wiggle 'No Excuses' sportive.. they ditched the 'epic' route due to the bad weather
Some fool also left his Garmin on in the car (i suspect.. if not those speeds are incredibly impressive and Sir Dave should be in touch) on the way home and took one of my KOMs which was promptly reported!0 -
I've just seen that some fellas got a KOM by doing the ride in reverse - is that even possible - he's gone downhill when it should hav ebeen uphill - only thing I can think of is that he got the gpx file and did some fanny about with it.The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns
momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself.0 -

Hehe, a 9 mile segment!0

Aye, the Milan - San Remo of segments ;-)0 -
I guess in a non urban area its fine, I just don't understand people setting up 5+ mile segments in built up areas. I bet thats a fantastic area to ride.0
-
Lost 2 KOM's this week to people flagging segments as 'Hazardous'. What is wrong with people ffs sake.0

are they hazardous?
They're probably just jealous.0 -
Fuming is over, they have been in existence for over 18 months and both flagged by a triathlete who joined strava 6 weeks ago. Cretin. Neither hazardous.
If I could be bothered I would recreate them. I just don't understand why anyone would do it.0 -

That whole section is basically the old Tay estuary bed with a few tiny groups of houses spread along the roads – really quiet. It’s pretty much sea level and the wind nearly always blows east or west – so it’s a hot bed of Strava contention ;-)
The ridge of steep hills to the north is also a Strava battleground. I’ve gone full circle from liking that website to hating it – well I’m back again0 -
Almost forgot to mention that I found the holy grail of cycling weather today:
#1 - Dry
#2 - No wind (I mean not at all.. very unusual for Cambridgeshire)
#3 - Not too hot or cold (for the clothing selected after scouting the weather forecast)
and there were even some brief spells of sunshine.
obviously it had to be made the most of:
http://app.strava.com/activities/45038352
even got a 9th on the way round. Did mean I power napped through watching the Volta highlights that i recorded though.0 -
now that's a flat ride..got any worthwhile hill segments there?0

ha don't be silly.. its a bit annoying since I die every time I go back to uni and ride some 4th and 3rd cats.0 -
Quite pleased with this one as No 2 guy is Cat 1, although I'm sure he'll be having it back off me....

Got another one today - does it count as bagging if I have to keep creating the segments
I hopefully racing my first race on Saturday -weather permitting - so wanted to stretch my legs a bit on the run home.

Very very windy today. Struggled to hold 12mph into the headwind. But you know what that means.....
http://app.strava.com/activities/45281285#777501388
No way I could get the KOM on this one without a little help
http://app.strava.com/activities/45281285#777501390
This one is completely exposed to the wind averaged 31.8 on what is basically a flat 2 mile segment
I think the wind is the strava equivalent of EPO. Now I know how Lance must have felt
Just noticed that Strava has estimated my power at 503W on that second one0 -

With that profile pic and those speeds people might start thinking you actually are Phillipe Gilbert0 -

Ssshhh, don't go telling everyone0 -
Went out yesterday for a day off after a few mishaps, only had an hour.
Happy got one: http://app.strava.com/segments/1265205
Then extended the segment to the full road and still KOM: http://app.strava.com/segments/3650148
Pretty happy with that, as I normally only turbo at this time of year and I really struggled last Sat when I went out. Must be the new Gabba helping me0 -

First race today.. and the rumours about the 4th Cat bunch being the most dangerous place on earth are true.
Was trying hard to stay out of trouble and near/in the top 10 but the speed up the hill from the 10 or so riders in front of me was shocking (especially since it was near the end of the race) and I got boxed in by the bunch who swooped round the outside and someone then swerved into me apparently and I was pushed into the guy on my left and crashed.
Bit frustrated but it was still outrageously fun - and £20 worth of kit damaged isn't the end of the world but there must be some hefty insurance premiums on some of the bikes being ridden :shock:0 -
Excellent, after a couple of months racing you'll be picking off your strava KOM's at willI'm sorry you don't believe in miracles0

Bagged one today, OK, it's an off-road segment, but I was on my cross bike, and I did have slicks on: http://app.strava.com/activities/46608338#807681354
But, a segment is a segment“Faster, Faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death.” Hunter S Thompson0 -

Sh1t is bound to happen sooner rather than later in 4th races especially on short circuits... was in a 3/4 race yesterday as a leg warmer and some of the bike handling was, to be brutally frank, bloody awful.
A tip for you, pick out 2/3/4 road races and earn your points that way - usually safer but the downside is, you have to work a damn sight harder if you want to get away in a break. If you really have to do a circuit, pick one that actually has a hill in it so that it is likely to split off and drop the weaker riders . It is riders who at their giddy limits who can pose the potential dangers of poor riding.0
