... but for some (or many), it's not doable :-)
If I commuted to work for those two weeks, I'd have 840 miles... but a single commute isn't really possible for me
But I'm not sure how they could make them more interesting and/or more inclusive.Simon0 -
I did 430miles in 4 days, it's doable BUT my fecking iPhone cut out of battery after 80-100 miles each day!
Garmin required.0 -

HA!
My Samsung Galaxy Nexus was only down to 52% battery after 90miles/5hrs the other week.0 -
i enter the challenges even if there is no way to do it as you sometimes get free gifts for doing so - like the chris carmichael training vidon the last one- even ifyou use it once on the turbo it`ll doi need more bikes0

Too windy today.. wanted to go for a segment with a tailwind but when I got there I was too cold and it was more of a crosswind0 -

+1 managed to track my 12 hour plus the ride to the start and back to HQ on my Samsung by running in plane mode. If you think you might need to take calls then just switch everything else off (wifi, bluetooth, auto rotate etc.). You can also get the plug in battery boosters.0 -

Easily do-able, I rode 450miles in 2 weeks back in July without even trying for a challenge.... Strava challenges are funny though, so many people now base their riding around a silly website and it's pointless challenges!
There was one last month to ride 700miles in a week, a "friend" of mine took a week off work to do it!!!!!!!0 -
Question chaps. Just got the email... OK, I'm not bitter it happens, but would appreciate your eyes over this please!!

592W and 88bpm? and such a big jump in speed? The thing is when you pann out it looks like a ride (apart from the fact he looks like he parked at Lakeside shopping centre)0 -
If you click on the performance tab he managed it without any cadence....if you look at the performance tab of the whole ride then big chunks are done in a car by the looks of it.0

Doesn't plane mode cut off 3G?. The app works via 3G...
Now you got me thinking....0 -
Yup plane mode doesn't work as the app cannot pick up a GPS signal now.....0

Plane mode shuts off all wifi and phone network broadcasting and receiving, but it should leave GPS on .. i presume you're not sat indoors telling us this??
Mapping software uses wifi/3g/gps to locate and allows locating when indoors (albeit not so accurate), but if youre on GPS only you need to be outdoors for line of site with the sats. All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

I was outside lol gimme some credit!
App instantly goes red with no GPS signal received, which is why I thought as plane mode is cessation of all radio signals0 -

Lol .. well some people aren't very technically minded, gota get the basic stuff accounted for first!
On Android you select Flight Mode, and GPS on/off is independent. Perhaps its different in iOS. Is activating Flight Mode and then activating GPS separately possible on iOS?All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

Airplane mode on iphone will kill GPS. Try it with just 2g. It should give a good boost in performance over 3G. Especially when you are in areas of weak 3G signal (which cyclists often are, rural etc). Your phone will eat its battery by trying to stay hooked on to a weak 3G signal whereas if on 2g only it is likely to have a much stronger and more consistent signal.
Other option is to jailbreak. I can disable the mobile data and use GPS only which makes a great difference to battery. Once locked on to GPS the phone doesn't need to do much to stay locked.0 -
Seriously, people spend £900 on an iphone but wont spend £99 on a garmin....
Most android phones the gps works independently of 'airplane' mode.0 -
IPhone uses assisted-GPS, which requires a network connection to help get a fix. I individually turn off Wifi, Bluetooth and 3G (but leave mobile data switched on) if I want to maximise battery life, and get 4.5-5 hours with the screen switched on, or about double that with the screen switched off (iPhone 4S).0

Garmin edge 200 £93.48 @ Handtec
Cheapest iPhone 5 on contract £757.99 @ T-Mobile0 -

My Garmin edge 500 was £180 and a few weeks later £30 for HR monitor.... Should have gone for the bundle!!! £225 for bundle is hardly cheap.... In fact, it's half the price of an iPhone 4s!0 -

Black bar tape, black tyres and no stem spacers (well maybe, but they are on top!). Unfortunately, it's no longer shiny and needs a good clean. Maybe next month!Simon0
