Got 3 KOM's today but 2 were traffic assisted ie one scooter doing about 25 and one tractor. I know I shouldn't have but I got in the slipstream. Should I flag myself?0

Set up a bogus account and give yourself some Kudos0 -

Clevedon Rd Climb, Bristol (1.2mi, 287ft)

The route basically runs through the Tyntesfield Estate if anyone might be interested in having a pop.
Pleased for a first attempt and the fact I made a wrong turn (and had to spin around). Also there often visitors of the 'older generation' there, so care is needed in riding it. Most of it is fine as it's up hill - so you just get odd look as you are panting away, but there are a few flat sections that you have to drastically limit your speed if people are about.
i retract my previous statement, there is no way I'm attempting those segments.0 -
I have a quick strava question if someone could help me. On some of the leaderboards I will often see someone's name followed by the letters OP (e.g Joe Bloggs - OP) - does anyone know what this means?0

I bagged my first ever segment on Wednesday
Only a small sprint segment, but it had stood with it's previous King for about 2.5 months.
It was very satisfying to see the old King attempt to take it back again yesterday, bettering his previous best, but still a few mph off mine
Now, advice needed:
Do I go out and better my time to make it even less attainable for his next impending attack? I can feel another coming.Canyon Roadlite

i think they created that segment (original poster) ??
just a guess mind...0 -
Give him Kudos for his attempt, add a comment saying something like "good try" with a smiley emoticon.
If that doesn't wind him up enough, THEN go and beat your own best time again.0 -

If you think you have plenty more in the tank let him keep trying until he beats you then go out and get it back again. It's always good to see someone obviously targetting your KoM, getting closer and closer and then as soon as they finally beat it go and get it back in one ride. The longer it takes them to beat it the better the satisfaction0 -
Good sound advice from both, thanks!
He set up a new segment yesterday (by the looks of things), on the other side of the city, on which he is the only person on the leader-board, ergo KoM. One is thinking this was created so that he could continue to hold a title of some sort - or that's what I'm going with...
Do I take my self over there and do him on that one too? A bit like a reoccurring nightmare. Or am I making this personal?Canyon Roadlite

That suffix goes on riders from a cycling club called Oakley Pedalers. A notorious Strava bagging clan. Don't think any of em race though :roll:0 -

Yeh this. The leaderboard pulls the names out of your database which is populated with the info from your profile, hence you'd be OP for every segment regardless whether you made it or not.
Lots of people advertise their club or shop or business after their name if they're high on the boards.
You can of course put your username at the end of every segment you create, it means if people had any issues with it they could contact you.All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

Can't wait to get back on my bike, I've not rode a bike for 2 weeks and gained a bit of weight, that means I'll be fasterer on the flat. Got some segments to bust :P0

Same.. 10 days in Ghana took its toll.
Loosing 5kg when I was out there means I can make it up on the hills though

This must be a contender for most pointless segment

Anyone with me on that this segment is quite dangerous, anyone from Belfast will know Sandyknowes Rounabout, (3/4 lanes one leads to motorway and a couple sets of traffic lights on it)

On a side note managed to bag a second place on a Cat4 climb today so happy enough0 -

Anyone who goes round Sandyknowes with racing in mind better have good life insurance, it's dodgy enough with a tonne of metal around you!0 -

Just to clear this one up - 'riders name - OP' indicates a rider of the Oakley Pedalers (OP) - a friendly group of cyclists from near Basingstoke who've all added the OP to their name on Strava. It has nothing to do with the segment creation.0 -

was looking at the latest Strava Challenge.. won't bother.
http://app.strava.com/challenges/Skratc ... -Challenge
They seem to be pretty pointless exercises in the useless to me... makes Strava look a bit silly with not keeping close tabs on the leader for example and making sure that things are verified... Nontas Ginieris .. that has to be an anagram0 -

Both ridiculous. Especially that Sanyknowes one. 2 sets of lights aswell depending on the time of day.
I didn't realise segments were so competitive. I'll have to pick a local one I know and chip away. The only ones i've managed are the ones i've completed without knowing meaning duff times. No way back from here if I get into it.0 -

Can you ride 455 miles (732km), the cumulative distance raced by Skratch Labs athletes Taylor Phinney, Tim Duggan, and Evelyn Stevens during the 2012 UCI Road World Championships?
As you say, you'd need not to be working to be able to complete any of these challenges ..... not for the average person who has a 9-5 job and a family.
I created my own personal 'challenge' this month, but one that was more doable! It was to climb the equivalent of the height of Everest (29,000 feet) during September, which I completed today. If this was a Strava challenge, you'd have barely a week :-)Simon0 -
455 miles in 2 weeks isn't that hard that you couldn't do it with a full time job. If I commutted each day for those two weeks I'd have 370 miles so only another 85 needed from weekend rides.0
