  • Also does anyone know who was the TLi 2012 National Champion? I've searched Simon West Team Cyclesense and can't find it.

Simon works at Cyclesense, Tadcaster... www.cyclesense.co.uk

Theres a bit more about him at www.koga-signature.com

I checked on the only strava near me that the riders went over yesterday (short hill 6%)- and hawkins......missed kom by .4mph - still impressive though I did it at an av of 15.3mph and he went over in 22.4 into a headwind- impressive.

Lol .. yeh, you think you're making progress and then you get smashed in the face with perspective hammer.

    :lol::lol::lol:
  • Sometimes losing your KOM makes you feel pretty awesome.

It took 6 guys in a chaingang with a 35mph+ tailwind to finally take me off the top spot of this last night:

    http://app.strava.com/segments/2146131

Strong winds predicted again for today and I'm on holiday ;-)
  • Got my second KOM this morning, it us the reverse of my first one but with an additional 100m of muddy track at the start. It is a testament to the combination of being late for your train, no wind and a couple of slices of soreen for breakfast.

Proper bike arrives tomorrow, all being well, so will be trying to beat my own Brompton times as well as building up my fitness on longer routes.
  • Got two places today, one KOM and the other a 6th.

Here's the KOM, although it has to be said that I (a) took a run up (as other rides have) and (b) part of the segment is downhill.... but anyway, I got the KOM so it's now mine (for a bit anyway):
    http://app.strava.com/segments/1071704

Here is another one that I feel slightly more happy about 'bagging', although still only 6th. But I am 85 kg (OK, more like 87kg)... so happy with this result:
    http://app.strava.com/segments/1123824

After the segment above, I was in bad shape hyperventilating to get my breath back as I cycled on, and passed a female traffic officer helping someone who had broken down. I was not that impressed by her comments, "go on, keep going....." but was not in any shape to give a witty reply. I must think of one in advance for next time!
Offers of witty comments more than welcome!

Have a good weekend everyone.... and happy hunting!

Flaming feck! Went out today did a good ride, reckon I was on course for a kom and a few PRs but the GPS data screwed up after a couple of kms which I didn't realise till I got back.

It's quite sad how annoyed I am really!

because you advertised it! Say nothing, NOTHING! I have a KoM from my sofa to the kettle, no one's ever gonna get that one! HA!
  • I rode out to watch ToB on the Chase yesterday. I later found out that I 'did' 17 KOM on my journey. I was bottom 5% on all except my home run... on which I did set a new best... after a 51 mile trip. How does that work? I usually struggle after a 15 ride form the station after work.

It's because you were warmed up properly.

    A 50 mile warm up! Gulp :D

I think I may have to subscribe to Srava just so I can compare my self against other 48 y.o. who weigh in at over 200lb

(note to self: must update sig)

Top Kom'ing, that 2nd one must have been into a headwind.
  • Got another one last night,

Wind all over the place down this one.

Not much wind, just a steep hill and the downside of my weight. Not sure how heavy the guy (john) is in 7th, but he needed 90 watts less for almost the same time.
A very good example of why weight is important when climbing :-)

One of them isn't really a roundabout as it only has the two exits. I think they built it with the intention of another road being built to it but it never happened. The other is dead in the evenings. Wouldn't be clever to do it at rush hour though.
  • 5 PR's today, no KOM's :( . Mind you I guess a 120K ride is not really the right place to be trying for them.

  • Took a KOM off one of the 6 man chain gang that stole my fave KOM earlier this week. Revenge is sweet

    http://app.strava.com/segments/2323770

Also took another KOM on a nice wee climb

    http://app.strava.com/segments/2383396

And took back a couple of places on the aforementioned fave KOM. A leap from 27 mph 29.4 mph and missed taking it back by 14 secs. Next time...

Is anyone else becoming a KoM 'type specialist?
I prefer the longer segments , up to 10 milers and draggier 2-4%ers where it's big ring work.
Last weekend finally swapped the sora cranket and bb as they were getting shabby and a bit rough for a cheapo Tiagra 52/39 in shiny metal off Ribble - for the training bike.
Have my eye on a few segments where brute force and violence is the way forward... over the coming weeks as a pleasant diversion to structured training on the turbo

I freely admit , can't be doing with stuff over 10% for any length of time .. more rouleur than puncheur
  • Got my first top 10 placings!!! Well chuffed!

Yep, I seem to do best on really short (0.2 - 0.3 mile) steep ramps, especially the ones a bit off the beaten track of regular club run and race routes. It's a shame that 0.2 miles seems to be about the shortest you can go as I'm good on hump backed bridges.

I'm a specialist at short urban mega-climbs - Balham Hill is probably the ultimate example!

I am definitely with you on the longer segments, and especially love rolling hills.

This is my current favourite, but it's near the inlaws so don't get to ride it much (or if I do, it's at the end of my ride):

    Westbury to Littleton Panell
    http://app.strava.com/segments/1178791
Distance: 8.1mi, Avg Grade: 0.1%, Elev Difference: 119ft, Elev Gain: 450ft

Feels almost like riding a 10 TT and great fun.

I have also created the reverse leg:
    Littleton Panell to Westbury
    http://app.strava.com/segments/946664

But is a poor second for the simple reason I'm usually 'spent' on the return leg lol

  • First attempt at a local climb today and managed a 4th:

Clevedon Rd Climb, Bristol (1.2mi, 287ft)
    http://app.strava.com/segments/777380

The route basically runs through the Tyntesfield Estate if anyone might be interested in having a pop.

Pleased for a first attempt and the fact I made a wrong turn (and had to spin around). Also there often visitors of the 'older generation' there, so care is needed in riding it. Most of it is fine as it's up hill - so you just get odd look as you are panting away, but there are a few flat sections that you have to drastically limit your speed if people are about.

This person named "Darrell Lee" moaned at someone for KOM a segment which he rekoned was in a car, I argued that the guy was not in a car (he later admitted he was), but because of the low average speed I thought it can't have been a car.

Anyway I notice a few segments he's got KOM on, and they're on one of my commuter back from someones house I visit regulary, so I thought, might as well have a go at them as they'd be good short intervals, and I KOM them so he called me a "sad stalker".

What is it with verbal warfare on this site, I'm getting tempted to delete my Strava account.

Sorry, know the above post was a while back but this SAD SAD little loser called Darrell Lee has surfaced again.
I took one of his KOM's today fair and square and he has flagged the ride and blocked me so I can't see his activities.
If you are reading this Darrell Lee, as I'm sure you will be, you are indeed a sad, insecure pathetic little man.

Put a Strava ticket in to get the ride unflagged. I would also mention that you believe he has done this because you took his KOM and is upset (and has done this before). You'll get your ride unflagged and KOM and Darrell Lee will probably get a strong email from support :)
