    Your map is all wrinkly.

club run with St neots CC today. Good fun with Group 2, easy pace.. but I did blow up on the stretch home as a result of my solo efforts to 'win' the 3.4mile 'race' into St Neots at the end of the loop.

Missed out on a top 10 by 2 seconds: http://app.strava.com/rides/20556467#369072400. Annoyed by that as I eased up at the end when I knew I'd 'won'

    2 seconds :!: :?:

No KoMs yesterday but a few 'achievments' http://app.strava.com/rides/20616895

I created a new segment last week and when it got populated I was pretty close to the top with the exception of 1st place who averaged over 30mph. When I looked at the ride in detail he had no other KoMs at all and his average for the 17.8 mile ride was 9.9mph with a top speed of 66.3mph - the ride also seemed to start out as an MTB ride at Cwmcarn and finish at the Gwent Hospital so I think someone had a mishap on the trails and got driven to hospital!

EDIT Just noticed the second placed rider was a similar time, similar date and also ended at the hospital and the ride name suggests it was a trip to the hospital (the one riders avatar seems to show his injuries). I feel a bit guilty flagging it but all's fair in love and Strava leaderboards

There's a drop from up Rivington and it's limited to 30mph, yet Strava times are around 35-38mph. Does Strava mean we can break the law? This is awesomes! I'm so gonna get 40 on that descent and get KoM!

Yep, having spoken with my local MSP Strava have a special dispensation if you get caught speeding just give the police a special handshake (details in a PM) and they will not only let you off they will clear the road of dogs and children so you have an uninterupted attempt at your KOM. Also if you get killed doing your chosen KOM God has told me you will be garunteed entry though a special Strava lane at the gates of Heaven, a bit like fast track when you fly Ryanair.

This could all be b0ll0cks though.

That speed limit - like the vast majority in the UK - does not apply to bikes.

but you can still get done for breaking the speed limit on a bike. They'll get you for 'Cycling furiously'

So I actually went on my first proper Strava bag the other night. Been sidelined with a cold and also right leg issues and went on a small one that goes by my front door: http://app.strava.com/segments/1263217

Also, because I noticed a new segment on one of my routes, I studied it more closely and it caused me to flag a guys ride that had ther KOM. On the bit where I was 2nd, he was a a fww mph faster than me and I thought he was just good. The new segment had him KOM at 43.6mph, which you can only do in a car, so with ride flagged, I am now the new KOM on this: http://app.strava.com/segments/1079518 (yes, Ben I know it's a downhill section again, but it plays to my strength of being able to turn GPH to kinetic energy ;) )

Looks a bit dubious, although he could have been drafting a lorry or something - I occasionally record times that I would be suspicious of if it was someone else! Would need to look at the rest of his ride to get an idea of whether it was legit or not, you can usually tell fairly easily (or just google the rider's name and quite often the first thing that comes up is a picture of a motorbike!)

Strava recording in itself is not incredibly accurate. There are a couple of times I can think of where I have got fast times that were out of tune with my normal ride times and just didn't ring true. Particularly when you consider that I have sometimes tried hard to beat a time and can't get close to my previous best when I know I wasn't pushing it.
If you check through enough previous records at a detailed level you will start to spot anomolies.
I sometimes ride with my son and we both record the rides but curiously in spite of riding close together the times and speeds can drift a bit on some sections. I would be interested if anyone has regularly ridden with others recording the same route and spotted similar differences.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not doubting the authenticity of the ride. In fact, I've ridden with Paul. He's a machine and one of a handful of the very best riders around here. Along with vs.

    It's still insane though.

There is this guy on Strava who took a KOM from a segment I was not even KOM on, and I sent him a message.

I find the hostility on Strava a bit depressing tbh.

I was only wanting to point out his average speed of 38.5mph for the 0.2 miles could not be accurate, then he called me a bad looser.

I was not even dissing his ability, but his actual average speed was 35.5mph, so having an inaccurate speed of 38.5 is unfair to anyone wanting a bash at the segment.

Also does anyone know who was the TLi 2012 National Champion? I've searched Simon West Team Cyclesense and can't find it.
