john1967 wrote:just out of interest are you supposed to start segments from a standing start or do riders hit the start as fast as they can.
Standing start, counting down 5,4,3,2,1......0 -

Nice try though
It certainly is possible with the right wind conditions and in a group. But the end of that ride is clearly in a car...Jibbering Sports Stuff: http://jibbering.com/sports/0 -

I have never had a noticeable tailwind down that segment, there are a load of houses at the start of it, on a 90 degree bend so that stops wind from getting down there0 -
Did a bit of KOM hunting myself today, took 4 KOM's in my 20 mile ride missed out on the 5th because i misjudged where there segment finishes (already my kom anyway though) http://app.strava.com/rides/20288168

Absolutely hate that damn climb and have no plans to do it again anytime soon, tried it yesterday out of the saddle most of the way and was about 30 seconds down on todays time, tried it in the saddle all the way today even the 18% bit and was 30 watts up on yesterdays attempt (need to sort my gearing out as a 39 - 23 combo is a struggle at that gradient seated)
And the last one fairly easy http://app.strava.com/rides/20288168#364279726
again the segment finished later than I thought as I clocked 412 watts from the bottom the the top on my garmin10 mile TT pb - 20:56 R10/17

Meh - you're all rubbish. Leaving your Garmin running while in the car is so lower-class. Do this properly and leave it on when you're in your private jet. ....

Went out today.. flat 38 miles in the wind. 18mph average. got 1st on a segment (out of Bikeradar strava club members anyway -> actually something like 14th against the whole leaderboard.)
p.s. I hate the wind, I hate the quality of the roads.. and above all I hate the lack of hills in Cambridgeshire... can't wait to go back to uni.0 -
Just joined the group on Strava.
Only have one KOM and thats only because it starts in work's car park - http://app.strava.com/segments/14361600 -

Why flag it? Pretty much every segment in London would need flagging on that basis. Surely people can see for themselves if they need to stop for a light / oncoming traffic? Only reason to flag as dangerous I can see would be if there are tight blind bends, or if its an inherently dangerous road like a dual carriageway with no hard shoulder or something.
You only have to look on this thread to see how seriously Strava can be taken. Do you really think people wouldn't take dangerous risks and jump lights to get their name in lights at the top of the leaderboard? I can't see what pleasure anyone can get from that sort of segment anyway - it's not a challenge, just who has the best traffic conditions.0 -
I've got to go and work in Skegness for a few weeks so as I'll be on my own I intend taking the bike with me. I've just been looking at Strava segments in the area and the steepest is listed as 0.6% over a 1.5 mile length! I think I'll have to get up into the Wolds to make it worthwhile.0

Ignore it then. If people want to take risks that's their choice. Leave the segment for those of us with enough brain cells to ride it safely. Its all a bit "nanny state" flagging a segment because it goes through a set of lights isn't it? Maybe I'm biased because most of my cycling is in an urban environment, but that approach would wipe out so many of the segments that make up my various commute routes and which serve as a really useful motivational tool to encourage me to use teh commute as a training exercise.0 -

club run with St neots CC today. Good fun with Group 2, easy pace.. but I did blow up on the stretch home as a result of my solo efforts to 'win' the 3.4mile 'race' into St Neots at the end of the loop.
Missed out on a top 10 by 2 seconds: http://app.strava.com/rides/20556467#369072400. Annoyed by that as I eased up at the end when I knew I'd 'won'0 -

I'm all for girl power but 40mph on the flat? is that possible?
http://app.strava.com/rides/14279575
My wife has lead me out on a completely flat road dropping me off at 60kph, she certainly could've come off my wheel that day had we been reversed. So don't see why it's impossible at all.
You need to re-assess the speed of "girls". Are you the sort of guy who just can't be passed by one so just ends up killing yourself drafting 'em whilst they're out for a pootle?
haha
