Was thinking about Whinlatter next weekend; many trees down?
  • Only that one on the Red North loop which I reported to the wardens so will have gone by now (rode it a few days ago). They said there were a couple down on the blue route which they were already dealing with but not sure about the Red South, I'm guessing they've sorted all of them by now.

You tried the new improved second downhill section of the North route yet? Flows much better and so much faster.

Must be 12 months + since I last rode Whinlatter so probably not. Hopefully get up there ASAP and try it.

Very wet ride round Gisburn Red

Managed to nearly impale myself on my handlebars...

There were dog walkers on the trails too. Never seen that before. Didn't know they were shared.

Forest of Dean mini downhill race today. Corkscrew is a good track but too short to race. Just under a minute for the fast lads and a very average 1:08 for me. Just as your getting in to it you cross the finish line.

I was due to go to Gisburn today, but I had a list of jobs to do on the MTB yesterday and a hangover prevented them happening. There are walkers on the fire roads but shouldn't be on the trails themselves. Saying that the last time I went two dog walkers with massive dogs were sat having a brew on the qualifier for Hully Gully and looked at me like I was stupid when I asked them to move. There was an older lady walking up the bit of boardwalk before There Was Rhythm, who was much nicer when I explained that riders faster than me might not stop in time and quickly turned round.

I did a hilly 40km on the road bike round Saddleworth, Ashton and Oldham. I quite enjoyed it, but would have preferred Gisburn.

How's the carfall trail on a long travel bike, worth the visit?

Climbs are suited to xc, descents definately require a bit more travel to get the most out of them!
150-160 is ideal, I'll be taking the Canyon up there for sure!
  • First day at Gawton Gravity hub, absolutely amazing DH tracks that batterd me from every direction but I flipping loved it. Only managed the Red and double Red tracks but that was more than enough for my skill level and very limited 120mm travel Camber  Anyone that enjoys uplift days and knarly decents with BIG drops and jumps, I highly recommend taking a trip down.

Sounds good then, the 160mm on my Transition should be a blast
I might go down and ride both Carfall and Twrch make it worth the day trip

  • Which is the double red?

HSD is red, Proper Job is double red. Super Tavi is black, Egypt is double black

The first time we rode PJ I stopped at almost every feature because I was just blow away at the technical level increase from HSD but after a few runs my confidence was brimming so went back onto HSD for a couple final runs and blitzed it. So much fun but I won't be stepping up to the black run anytime soon.

    Have you been yourself?

    Gisburn.

Was feeling really rough but made myself go out. I always enjoy Gisburn, but managed to snap (another) mech hanger. I was carrying a spare but the repair took ages as the chain was all twisted. Thanks to the guy on the Orange Blood who stopped his jumping practice on the Hope Line to give me a hand.

The bloke on the cyclocross bike on Home Baked was making everyone look overbiked.

Not today but yesterday rode parts of the clwydian range , great mix of trails managed 25 miles with 3600 ft of climbing. Great views and very dry around there for a change, though was cold when we made a cheeky accent to the highest point about 4pm, but the decent was well worth it.

Before Home Baked? No, it looked like it was still being worked on.

Yeah, that's the one - to bypass the first fire road climb. They said they were aiming to open it around March time, so probably not long now.

Afan. Lap of Whytes and then a night ride on the new Blade trail. What an experience that was. The last descent was awesome to ride in the pitch black and we were grinning from ear to ear all of the way down.

Had an explore of my new local area yesterday, a good day out around Todmorden, first time ridden in Calderdale.

Some surprisingly good trails, bloody muddy though.
