The Northern Monkey wrote:BPW today... no uplift ticket so rode up. Was showing a noob around so stuck to blues for the most part, all went well until he cased a berm on our last run. Smacked his head into the ground after his front wheel washed out, but luckily not permanent damage!
Didn't start out great though as my front mech bust this morning so I had to set the stops on the big ring and removed the shifter etc, bloody loved it!
Thinking about going single ring permanently, but will go down to 34T from 36T to make the climbs a tad easier!
Did BPW for the first time yesterday, also first time out for a few months. Managed to do a good selection of the blues and reds but was surprised at some of the grading, pretty mental in places, a bit much for me anyway
Personal favorites were Sixtapod into Willy Waver 8)
Rim Dinger and Vicious Valley lived up to their names as well!
Also didn't have the uplift so 4 climbs to the top resulted in a good night's sleep last night!Vaaru Titanium Sram Red eTap

Went with some buddies to check out the trail for the National Mountain Bike Finals in China in a place called Renhe town in Sichuan.
We were really excited to try a trail that had we thought had been prepared for mountain bikes...it turned out that the ascent of the circuit had been mostly covered in concrete to and the rest was just the usual farmers foot trails. At least the descent of the circuit was fast and fun. Not a single other mtber in sight all morning and the locals reckon it is like that all year round until the race hits town.
I think I will just stick with driving up to the mountains after spending a few hours on google earth and finding some natural trails to enjoy.
This is must have been what it was like at the very start of things in the states. Just a few friends on bikes trying to have some stupid fun in the mountains!0 -
Rivi pike and Winter Hill.
Lovely scenery up there.0 -
two laps of the blue route in pollok - mud, wet leaves and routes made for an interesting time. New tyres and shock did help my confidence either lol0

Out Wednesday for an hour or so over Piethorne Rakewood way.
Wanted a big miler today over the moors but had a technical on Rakewood, somehow a bolt sheared on the front derailleur so left me in granny gear, limp home mode0 -

Went for an off piste ride around Betws Y Coed today, started at the Marin trail and hit some super duper steep, super duper technical, rocky, slippery, lovely singletrack! Was the most fun I've had on a bike in ages!

Quantocks. Started at Lydeard Hill car park. Took in the Chimney. First time ever so took it quite steady. What a run! Then did various ups and downs. 20 miles in total. Legs killing me today.
Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

Forest of Dean for the first time. Good road trip and enjoyed it there. Much better than my local trail centre (Haldon)0
-
Mendip Hills, Rowberrow Warren and near Burrington Coombe.
Excellent cross country, rocky downhill sections, woodland sections and ups and downs. Only 12 miles but that was enough! Found the Christmas Tree run. HOW DARK!!?? No way without very good lights.
Very muddy on top with peat and sandstone mud. Bike only got stuck once where I had trouble pulling it from mud it was that deep. Maxxis Beavers kept me going powering the rear.Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

Bits of Lee and Cragg. The headwind whilst ascending the link road was a particular highlight, turning into as sidewind for the ride back down.0

Whinlatter Blue and the south loop of the Red.
Holy hell, most of their Red features wouldn't seem out of place on a DH track. Hardest Red I've done so far and I don't think I'll take it on again without a fork upgrade and some more skills. Walked down the rock garden at the top of the big beefy climb.... and the next huge rock as well. Then it went OK until I crashed.
You know the kind of crash where you know you've screwed up and it won't end well, but you try and fight it anyway and end up with an embarrassing slow-motion fall into the muddiest part around? Yeah, one of those.
No harm done and so on I went, avoided another couple of drops but then they caught me out with a section that starts off going down some rock slabs, then onto a boardwalk with a big drop in it that you can't see from the top. No way I could stop, so just had to ride it out. Scared the crap out of me but I made it down.
Phew! Did the Blue run again to finish off with. Good workout.0 -
