Good day at Gisburn. Sunshine, lap of the 8 trail and a trip down the Hope Line. Clean bike now rather muddy and in need of much cleaning again, lol.
Did you get caught up in the enduro event, one over authoritarian marshal stopped us riding on one section at 10am. The event didn't start until 12!

Enduro event? Didn't see owt of that nature going on anywhere, and we started our lap at about 12.30.

Just seen your other thread - we were there Sunday 22nd (last weekend), not 29th (been full of cold for the last week, not been on my bike since then).
  • Llandegla. Not been for a few years and memory served me right - epic day trip!

Llandegla as planned thankfully... Spent the day there and ate out the cafe for the first time was a fantastic day.

Got a little lost and somehow find myself down offas dyke path.

And not riding at the right speed had me on just the front wheel going over a small table top along the red route.

Did Cly-Machx trail Friday and W2 on Saturday - was supposed to be at BPW today but missed the point that the Welsh nationals were on - to be honest legs knackered so no chance I'd have done much there to justify the £5 so maybe I saved money?!

I had a little ride from my dads into Sherwood Forest. I did go into Sherwood Pines for some of the ride but it was more about just going out and getting a bit of me time and getting out for a while. I have not been able to go riding for quite a while due to injuries and moving away. My old bike was not suited to riding for more than an hour for me so I got something more comfortable. So this is my 4th ride on the new(to me) bike and my first time back into my old stomping grounds for almost 20 years!

The map and trace of the contours and speed were put into Google earth from my AIM Mytach.

I also got to have something to eat and a short break at The Major Oak.

Local 15mile loop, rudely interrupted by some t*at motorist who thought it would be a good idea to try and assault me after I objected to him over taking me on a blind corner.

Now I remember why I gave up the road bike all them years ago :|

Me and a friend headed to Sherwood for the first wet session on the Kitchener.
  • We rode hammers in the fog and mizzly rain, was interesting to say the least.

  • Today we were back at bike park wales. It was wet, fast and great fun.

I had my first ride for ages in full length bib tights and waterproofs. I had to make myself leave the house as the weather was grim, but managed 30km around Ogden Reservoir and Hollingworth Lake then back down the canal. Only on the HT so nothing techy but glad I forced myself from off the sofa.

Had my first excursion up on the Quantocks yesterday (Sunday). Fab place with lots of great tracks, woods and downhills (not so much the uphills though). My mate had been there loads of times before back in the late 90's but even he got lost from time to time.
Horrible weather. Started OK but got worse and worse with heavy rain by 2pm. Luckily was wearing new thermal tights ;-) (I know a bit frowned on by DH types lol) but even when completely wet I was still warm.
Only came off once on a stupidly flat bit of track with an adverse camber and a grassy 2" drop off going down the centre. Front wheel just slid away resulting in an OTB incident and whacking my knee on the stem. Still, got up and back on the bike and hammered down Hodders Coombe with the newly inserted brake pads not biting, overheating and fading badly made an interesting descent. Smell of burnt brakes at the bottom!
Great day out, did 15 miles or more. Got wet. Got hurt. big smile.

    Gisburn. I cannot fault Gisburn.
  • Afan, White's Level. Weather forecast was awful so I nearly didn't go, but it turned out nice. Good times...
Three bikes: a muddy one, a fast one and a nostalgic one.

What was the weather like there today? How are the trails holding up now it's getting wetter? The far end of Hully Gully was even more cut up when i was there a couple of weeks ago.

It rained but not too heavily, but the trails were spot on generally. I managed some decent times (for me) so the conditions didn't bother me. The last bit of Hully Gully was a bit messy, but I've never known it any different.

It looked like the air ambulance was rocking up when I was loading the car, and an ambulance arrived by road as I left, so I hope the rider (or walker) was OK.

Yeah, I've only been riding since this Spring, so I've only known Hully Gully with all the cut up breaking bumps at the far end too, but up until last time the trails had always been bone dry when I've been. It was a lot slippier down Hully when i was there a couple of weeks back. I don't time anything - I'd need a calendar lol

Wouldn't be the first time the air ambulance has lifted someone out of Gisburn - you don't think about how dangerous these things can actually be when you're doing them...

Went for a ride on Salisbury Plain yesterday. Cycled up from Westbury, past the Horse and XC over to New Zealand Camp. Then a few downs, ups, downs and ups, back through the woods and back home again past the Horse and down the bridleway.

Oh, did I mention it was wet? Well it was. Very. Very. Wet. Soaked through. Shoes full of water. Covered in mud. Rain washed most of it off it was that heavy. Coming down the bridleway was slippery chalk mud. It soon became a river of deep slippery chalky water. Fun though. Still drying off.

PS - oh, and no ambulances. Mate fell off a few times, which was unusual as normally it's me.

  • after numerous should i shouldn't i's while travelling down the m4 we decided to go ahead and ride up at Brechfa. We rode the black and blue trails with only a couple of short sharp showers, so it was well worth the drive :D

Just a couple of local tracks and paths, more a token gesture than an actual 'ride'.
  • From home up to Style Cop, down the the Red Course and on to the special events area. Then up to the cross roads and down to the Lodge via some rather weird wood track stuff (managed to come off on a root and smack me leg up, but what the heck!) Then up to Upper Longdon and down a track to Bates Way that I used to drive cars down years ago, now its almost impassable to a MB let alone a car! How things change over 20 years...... (All on Cannock Chase BTW.) My Bike is shat up to the eyeballs now, I really aught to clean it but I'm a lazy git....
