Now with added dropper action! Some have suggested that without the remote it's next to useless, but we shall see. Doesn't seem like it'll be too much of a chore to operate by hand...0 -
First idea:
A test for the first stickers. I want to keep it understated, they'd be printed professionally on transparencies in jet black. And I think they'd be a little bigger.
I'm liking the white around them too at the minute, so maybe II could have them printed on white and cut a 'cloud' around them in the same design as the letters.0 -
And I've just trimmed the bars down a smidge, 780 down to 760. I was a bit stretched out before, plus I've saved some weight! I've also found the Saint's bite point adjuster (free stroke) does sod all but I've managed to bodge the lever travel by taking out the wheel and pumping the pistons out. The throw is reduced which suits my wee hands and I've put the brake inboard of the rear shifter. All in all, the cockpit is feeling terrific now.0
-
I think its a fantastic idea to do your own decals! Cant wait to see what you do with them in the end.0
-
Cheers, I'll aim to keep it understated, just a few things on the front and rear.0
-
Looking good, what colour? and have you seen the new saint pedals, f**k me they are beautiful, lad at bike shop has them they are just loverrrly.0
-
not sure yet, I was thinking the lettering would be black, printed on transparency but it won't be very visible. I'd like to keep it understated though. Someone else suggested it should be gold but that's too much White might be my final decision but i don't know if you can print white... how would I do that??
Ane yeah - saint pedals look the nuts! but the only upgrade I'd consider in future would be the new icetech fined rotors, but they don't do them in 6 bolt.
You healing up alright?0 -

Yep, cheers well on the way to a 360!!
Regarding colour, white might be too "cheap" looking like you thought pages back, yellow but not a bright one might look ok something like Ral 1004, but you would propably need another colour with it maybe black?0 -
The two colour idea is a good one, I'd probably not go as bold as yellows, but maybe the 'cheap' white could be offset if I had two sets printed, one in white and one in black and layed one on top of the other but slightly offset, so either an outline of white, or a shadow of black. But, do you know if it's possible to print white onto transparancy? I'd have a professional do it, so whatever equipment they have to hand to do it...
Whilst I was looking at fonts (dafont.com), I cam across something I might run down the back of the seattube - but that will remain a surprise until the whole thing is ready to be pictured.0 -
If you get a decent sign maker or whoever with a digital printer they can print pretty much anything you can draw, so multi-colour, white on clear etc, is no problem.
We use a local firm for our work related stuff and they have just printed a union jack onto a tractor and roof box for the olympics, so bike decals are pretty easy for them.0 -
Well, I've just made my first forays into getting in touch with the Bold Barber that Tim Wand mentioned. Waiting for a call back and I'll see what he can do for me. I did email Slik as well, but I think there's a current thread from someone who can't get in touch with them... I shalln't wait.0

If slik have exactly what you want on their website, their great... if you want custom forget it!0

This is true, he is based in Darwen 20 mins from me, I took the reign down to his unit, he stenciled it up for a template, sent me a proof of the design, I said yes, 3 months later, I gave up and got some done local, more local than 20mins away.
He is just to busy to operate as a 1 man band, but thats the way of the world atm.0 -
Bought Some RS Boxxers from a friend for £100, circa 2004. Not sure of the exact year but I've determined they are the Race model. I've just finished cleaning out the internals (which was an oily soup mainly comprising of shit). The lowers were pretty beat up so I've rubbed down all the grazes and will repaint them white (I might have to get a filler for the smashed up bits). And I'll buy some decals from ebay for them.
I'm hoping they will liven up the geometry a bit by slackening the whole thing out. And I've also a few seconds to make up on the timed Strava runs at Stile Cop - I've a few KOMs for stretches of the runs but can't find the full winning time!! Hopefully these will give me some skillz inspirationz!0 -
Nice. They're '05, you can tell because it has the newer arch, 200mm of travel rather than 180mm and it uses a regular 20mm axle with pinch bolts rather than a maxle.0

I love you.
PM me if you want proof of this. Cos I've been staring at an '04 manual cursing that the internals don't seem quite right!0 -

Well, these flippin' forks are going to cost me more to get them to full working order than I paid for them. After stripping them down and figuring out what bloody model they are and trying to get them to work for an entire day, I've discovered the rebound assembly is shagged. TF has replacements in stock, plus seals, paint and decals and I'm looking at £200 quid for a 7 year old fork. But - now I've got it in pieces it's going to be dead easy to do in future. I could strip and service this in minutes beside a circuit! Fingers crossed the fork actually feels good compared to the £500 Lyric RC2DH that's coming off!!0
-
If I were you, I'd try and get hold of another set for spares/repair and put them together rather than buying bits new. I don't know many people who have the older style boxxers that are still all original. Most have had replacement dampers, lowers, stanchions etc from various other forks. Mine are the only ones i know of out of my riding buddies that are (so far) still original!
Plus, I would imagine if you can get some of the '06-'09 boxxers with knackered lowers/stanchions or something, the more modern and straight forward spring and damping cartridges would just drop right in. Don't quote me on that though, but I see no reason why not.
EDIT: something like this and get hold of a newer damper
or this as a whole fork
Oh and my '09 boxxers are miles plusher than my '10 RC2DH lyriks, but the lyriks are better damped.0 -
Bugger, the fork from that Judge sale would have been a better option originally! But getting a brand new damper shaft and cartridge is going to be cheaper than buying another fork for spares, at least in the short term and should mean it lasts for a long time. I doubt I'll damage anything else on the fork as I'm not a destructive rider  I did look up HC2 shafts but I can't find any for sale other than those at TF, and they're '06 internals too.
Thanks for the links0 -

When riding the Mega, Alpe d'Huez, you enter this tantric sex zone where you become one with the trail, and using your eyes only slows down the climactic experience.0

Bit hopeful I think.
My 2012 R2C2 Boxxers feel like a long travel version of my old 2011 RC2DH coil Lyriks. The new Boxxers are much better damped and stiffer than the old 32mm Boxxers which did suffer from flex.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
yeah, i can't really see the logic here. if you really wanted to make this worthwhile i would have sold the lyriks and get some 2010 boxxer teams or something as they would actually make a difference. the old boxxers have nothing on the new ones in terms of damping, adjustments and stiffness0
-
Well, they originally cost me £100, plus £25 for a direct mount stem. I wanted to see what the bike would ride like with more travel at the front and the corresponding geometry changes and for that kind of money I'm more than happy to experiment. If it's a revelation, then to be honest I'd get rid of the Torque for something more suited to a big triple clamp (I really loved riding a Cube Hanz a few weeks ago). It's only when I realised the internals were on their way out that this experiment started to cost more than was worth while. But either way, they'll be performing as good as new.
The wording on my last comment was wrong, I should have said I hope they don't feel too bad compared with my Lyrics, but I'm expecting them to feel less advanced.
As for an update, I've nearly finished spraying the lowers today and the seals have arrived. Just need to rub out the runs then I can rebuild them to see what they look like and drop the damper shaft in when it arrives.0 -
To be fair, my boxxers aren't damped like my lyriks, but then I find that they're super plush over smaller hits, and they have enough travel (as does the rest of the bike, and super slack angles) that it lets me get away with a lot of stuff anyway, without all the fancy damping. They're certainly not lacking anything as far as I'm concerned anyway, I can never tell the difference between small damping changes etc anyway.0
-
I think I fall into this category too. I don't really pay much attention to setting forks up. And as I've never ridden a modern boxxer, I won't know what 'proper damped' DH forks feel like!0
