Aye, I saw those lyriks on fleabay, but I thought it looked a little dodgy, probably nowt wrong with them, but decided to err on the side of caution. Still, can't turn your nose up at £4650

Screeeeeaams stolen lol.
Is the date code the same as the ID found on frames - an identifying feature?0 -
update: I'm looking at some second hand Lyrik 170s from the US that come into my budget. I'll put any import duty on credit card when it comes through0

This time, I rang them to make sure the fork was in stock, put the order in, and the fork was with me two days later. Can't complain.
Also think i bought some hope hoops from them (or it may have been merlin, i can't remember) and had no issues...0 -
merlin are top class they local shop to, i use them all the time.. you must be one of the few lucky customers, like i say i go down to purchase it directly from them.. they have a bad reputation...
Aaron if you order them from the states get it marked as gift and have a low value of around $40 put on to avoid charges.
or get it marked as a warrenty replacement, thats what the shop in california used to do for us when we were buying car audio stuff from them....www.bearbackbiking.com

I always feel cheeky asking that... Not sure why, it doesn't affect them after all.0

Update from the weekend; powder coating I have learnt, is impervious to chemical warfare because it is a plastics based paint, and not oil (I don't really know the difference, I thought plastic was derived from oil so... like... whatever...). The paint stripper plan is out of the window as it won't do anything. Instead I'm going to go at it like a rabbit in heat with an 80 grit sandpaper, then use a plastics primer before the colour coats.
And then there's these: Shimano XT brakes from Rose.de. 70 pounds posted? Is there a better deal on very powerful trail-weight brakes?
Oh, and much to everyone's dismay, I won't be a Durolux guniea pig any longer. CRC sent the wrong ones, and I bought 170mm RC2 air lyrik instead. I'm a little disappointed as I wanted to know what they would perform like - but this is the right way to go
Maybe by next weekend I'll be in a position to reveal a picture of a battleship grey frame ready to take electric blue coating.0 -
Are you sure that's powdercoated? Looks anodised to me...
Good news on the fork front though0 -
hmm, you might be right... The surface is textured which I thought would be part of the powder coating process. If it is ano, you could have saved me from scouring away at vital metal... I'll have to scrub up on knowing what ano is.0
-
Pretty sure it is, would explain the paint stripper not doing anything. It'll be shot peened and anodised, hence the textured finish, most powder coat finishes are glossy or matt.
Not sure how you would go about stripping an ano finish though, but i know someone who stripped the anodising off a suspension link, i can drop him a line if you like?
edit: i think he used oven cleaner!0 -
the xt brakes could be problematic, check your account, as my order initially stated a delivery date of 17.12.12... yes thats december this year!!! it should be all sorted now, but you may want to check, they werent great at helping me out...0
-
Aaron i thought looking at your pics and the vids, it looked like it was an anodised frame.. looks very simlar to my pace in colour and texture...www.bearbackbiking.com

Makes complete sense actually, i'd forgotten about ano finishing. As it's just metal then I should just be able to use an etching primer, I won't remove the colour.0

Used to restore old bmxs and to remove anno used oven pride but you have to be careful leave it to long and it will melt the alloy, if it is anno just rub it down and degrease it, use it as a base for your primer, no etch primer needed.0 -
So, how many of you doubted this project would get off the ground? #raises his hand#

Pearlescent blue baby yeah!
I haven't figured out how to do decals yet though. I might... maybe... just leave it blanc blue. Silk graphics is an option.0 -
