Took the bike up Cut Gate today, got some crackin' speed out of her on the way back down. She climbed admirably too, just need to get some Spring exercise in to make the most of what the bike can do going uphill...
Torque up Cut Gate0 -
Hows the paint holding up on this after a couple of months of riding? Very tempted to give my prophet a repaint as its getting a bit worn in places.0
-
It's not fallen apart entirely It has picked up scratches a little more readily than other frames I've owned and certainly scratches that the original anno finish would have shrugged off so it's looking slightly worn. I'll take some new photos to show how it's faired. I still think it's a worthwhile project, but it is a finish that will want touching up from time to time.0

Two natural light photos have been put up as well to help give a good indication of how it looks to the eye. The flash gun has been very good at picking up on detail you'd barely notice normally.

You just need some decals now to break it up a bit, still looking good0
-
Yeah, I'm still hoping that Em commits some time to do some free hand art on the frame. Stickers could come off of course but I don't want to cheapen the look with cheap decals...
Got any advice for removing the light scratches? I'm thinking of rubbing it down with 2000+ grit wet and dry then adding a few coats of laquer. Simple as that?0 -
Try t cut first it may buff them down, Lacquer will deepen the colour and lessen the scratches, but I would just leave it, mines got a few scars already.0

Cheers, I'll give it a try0 -
looks really good mate!
I'm annoyed that the Lyrics only come in at 170mm though, wouldn't have minded some myself!0 -
It's lasted pretty alright so far considering I don't try to look after it! The second hand Lyrics had to come from the USA as there were none I could find for sale here... they were pretty cheap until the tax man came after me. I got properly stung in the starfish as the guy put the price from new in the 'value' box instead of 0, or at least the price I paid... He didn't know, and was very apologetic but god I was gutted when the invoice dented my carpet.0

bluechair84. Live in Newark myself, think I might have PM'd you once re a frame. Any way looking to do a bit of bike resto myself (mainly road stuff) I was thinking I might ask the guy who cuts me hair if he'd do the vinyls.
Not as weird as it sounds, He owns the Bold Barber on chain lane and has just started his own sign Writing and graphics business (Used to be his old trade) on Manners road (Where the police found the weed farm).
His names Colin and he does a lot of Tri's and Biking, I m going to see how he would feel about doing some bike graphics, Just an Idea like, think he could come up with some Canyon ones for you.
I m in the process of converting my old stable block into a spray booth (just dont want the police to think I ve got a weed farm in there with all the halogen lamps) , Used a guy via ZONE , once and lost my Orange Five frame for over 3 months, so want to have a go myself, so if you ve any tips , would be appreciated.0 -
I wrote up my experiences here: http://oneloosecrank.blogspot.co.uk/2012/01/custom-spray-your-frame.html. The whole process was fairly simple really. My advice would be to make sure you do plenty of layers, don't scrimp. Then go very lightly with the laquer - I found it almost impossible not to have it run which it does much much easier than the paint. 1mancity2 gave me some advice here - he suggested that you spray a light layer and let it go tacky before you thicken up the laquer. If it does run, try turning the frame 180deg to have it return to whence it came. Finally, I hung mine with a few loops of fishing wire and a carabiner so I could unclip it and move it around easily.
Where do you get riding? I'm always on the look out for people to carshare with as I tend to drive a couple of hours to any decent riding locals. Though today, I'm heading to Lincoln's premiere DH spot... I kid you not, it exists...0 -
Pines and Peak district, when I can, I ve just dropped down to one car so have to wrestle the wife for it a bit.
Mainly do road riding out into the vale of Belvior or up to Woodboro, Calvo.
Just got back into MTB after a bit of a Hiatus (as you know this area doesnt lend itself to the sport), the "Bargain Build Whyte 19" post near this one is mine.
Once fitness and technical ability return I would be up to riding in a group a bit further afield. Although my rigid 19 might struggle to follow your Canyon.0 -
I've also the Moment for XC / trails I take that out into the Peaks when I can.0

schweeeeet, nice work! Good choice on the guide, so easy to work with and look great too0

mauri patterns leading from the end of the tubes and thinning out and twisted in the mid section (centre) would look sickworst moment ever...
buzzing down twisting single track then.... psssst BANG!!!0 -
This sort of thing? Some of it looks a bit like crap tatoos from a basement 'artist' in Huddersfield... but the stuff that's a bit more art deco does look really cool. I want my girlfriend to put some stuff together as she's pretty awesome but with the number of commissions she has I might have to give it a go myself...
...
but I'd have to be bloody desperate to do that.0 -
Why dont you cheat?? Get a sticker company to make you a stencil of the pattern you want, apply to frame, paint et voila!! Instant tribal designs!!0

Yup, can do, but I'd get them to produce the stickers rather than stencils then I could always change my mind. For the time being I might just get a nice font and have the brand and model printed up until I'm ready to get some designs on her... I quite like it when the writing is broken up so not all the text is visible, like on the Saint calipers.

 yeah... running DMR V8s is a bit embarrassing these days isn't it...0
-
Haha not only that, but once you try some proper pedals (and shoes) you'll know what you were missing! (i'll give you a hit, it starts in g, and ends with rip )0
-
I have some superstars on the Moment and the difference is phenomenal. Personally, the thing I look for most in a pedal is thickness (or lack of). The V8s don't compare to modern levels of grip but... they were floating about in my tool box and helped contribute to a relatively cheap build
Check out the new DMR Vault, good looking update to the old V8/V12!0 -
Ahh nice, I have some superstar nanos and they're great! Could do with a pin change though now...
And yeah I've seen those vaults, they look really nice, pricey though!!
Also, what does "jeff jonesed" mean?0 -
looks great! can't wait to see it if the arty look happens.
agreed, v8s are shocking! but vaults are really weak, i'v seen many of them snapped on the web and 3 in real life0 -

Really? That's a shame as they might have been my pedal upgrade... when it comes to putting the pennies down though I'll probably just go Superstar so the gold matchesilovedirt wrote:Also, what does "jeff jonesed" mean?
Jonesy likes to take the M960 crank, hack down the spider so it can no longer take the dinner plate, polish them up and sell them for ridiculous money. If you look closely at the spider, you'll notice there is no mounting location for the dinner plate anymore thanks to a night in with a hacksaw and Iron Man 2. It makes it look much cleaner when running a single ring. Howard, a forumite, first showed this to me and it turns out loads of people have done it to Deore chainsets to get the same expensive look0 -
