Looking good!!
Fair play for heli taping it, i covered my old patriot in the stuff!0 -
She's pretty much finished!!
Remaining things to do - the fron SLX brake isn't clearing the rotor, need a new adaptor first. The rear brake meerly makes noise and does nothing else... They've not been used in a while so new pads all round. 203mm disc front and rear and that's your lot! Eventually, I'll pick up some Shimano XT brakes to finish the project but that might not be until the summer.
Specs:
Canyon Torque, DHX 4.0 + titanium coil = 170mm
Lyrik RC2 air, 170mm
Stans Flow on Superstar Evo hubs (12mm rear maxle)
Shimano SLX brakes (to be upgraded to 203mm all round, to be upgraded to XT in the future)
Superstar bars, post, grips, seat clamp, brake pads and chain device
SLX transmission (1x9 - full outer to the rear mech)
SDG Bel Air
Mitsubishi Lightning Blue + 3m of helicopter tape
Weight = 34lbs
It feels light and playful so far, nice and easy to manual, accelerates well, lighter than I thought it would feel (I'm thinking of buying a suitcase travel scale to see how much it weighs) but I've not used it in anger. One week today will be it's first outing. Prior to that, it's coming to bed with me to cuddle.0 -
Spanish Omlette for tea?
What's going in the stir-fry tomorrow?
Also, is that the Battlestar boxset on top of the book case? Good call!
Oh, bike looks alright too I guess0 -
Ooh yes, we made that book case out of some reclaimed scaffolding planks and a crappy argos unit. Not quite finished that project yet. On top of the book case are a few of our very favourite bits we pull out to re-cover - including one of the greatest series ever made
Glad the bike gets some approval too!0 -
looking nice, am a little concerned that it may never leave the house though, will it fit through the door with those bars ? they look hugeSpecialized Hardrock Sport Disc 10- CANYON Nerve AM 6 20110

Well, my girl is going to do some hand painted designs when she's got time away from her comissions. something else I can't wait for And the curry Pizza... err... I have no idea. That's her dinner night. I'm looking forward to that though too It's exciting times in this household!0 -
chez_m356 wrote:looking nice, am a little concerned that it may never leave the house though, will it fit through the door with those bars ? they look huge
umm... They don't fit through the doors It's the paint job which may very well persuade me to have this as a 'show bike' and keep it indoors mind! The mega wide bars feel amazing pedalling about the street, but I'll probably take a hacksaw with me to Stile Cop next weekend and do some 'trail side tuning' once I've got the feel for the bike0 -
did you go out this very minute just to take photos in the snow? :P0
-
Shit i got all excited0

How wide are the bars? Been wondering what benefit they are over my 711mms or if they just fo fasshun, may have to sample them before you use your chopper on them. Then saw them down.Santa Cruz 5010C

770mm massif. We'll do a bit of swinging next weekend, I'm looking forward to feeling the difference between the two bikes.Angry Bird wrote:That looks sweet, nice job.

Looks good, white decals when she has time?
I ride with 760mm bars and they make one hell of a difference if your downhilling.0 -
Interesting you say white - I wanted black detailing but Em also said white... Might have to photoshop some ideas in two colours to see.0

shoot is that a bazooka in that last pic.. i thought you were a teacher not a sas man..
looks good,, you done a awesome job.. are you pleased with the result..?

I'm unbelievably happy with the results - It's exactly as I wanted it to look. But I'm concerned how long it will last. 3 against 1 for white decals so far then! I just don't want it to lok like a tracksuit top from Sports Direct...0

Go back to pg2 and look at my old trance for an idea what white decals will look like..0
-
Hmm see... without dissing your lovely Trance, looking at it does confirm my scepticism. I don't think it really goes, but maybe it's the type of graphic. When do you start on the Reign now you've got your paints? I'm excited by your project 8)0

Yeah I agree about the Trance, it needed outlining with black to beef up the graphics, start stripping the Reign next Monday!0 -
White with black outlines? That could be a happy medium! Though, as the the girlfriend is the artist and the one doing it I'll prbably be shot for sticking my oar in  I trust her passion (edit- I'm not sure why i said passion, having just spotted it I'm not even sure what I meant to say. Work+banging head against wall = nonsense comes out). which reminds me, she's done another pencil drawn biker for someone on here - need to update the thread of her work.0

Backtracking a bit, i run 750mm bars on my do-it-all bike, and they feel great. It's taken me a while to settle on them, but I don't think I'd want to change from them, they're wide enough to feel stable, and I can just manage to manoevre them through some tight tree gaps.
However, I can't get my bike down my stairs and out the house without taking my front wheel off :P0 -
A crap video of my riding!
The bike is awesome And I'm surprised by the brakes. They came from my barely used HT on 185/160mm rotors. Now on 203/185 they offer plenty of power and feeling so I'm in no hurry to upgrade. 1x9 setup is giving me no troubles but I definitely need to strengthen up my legs.
The paint has shrugged off three days riding so far and a few crashes, including a whopping tarmac crash from a friend's 14yr old son who bent my brake lever and scratched to Jeff my rear maxle... It was so severe he put himself in hospital to have his knee put back together. Last time I give him my bike! Not a scratch on the paint thank God otherwise I might not have been so charitable as to clean the gravel from his patella whist he covered my kitchen floor with blood.0 -

That give you around 15% more power go the hole hog and whack 203 on the back as well, really makes a difference when hurtling down, some say its overkill but its saved me a few times.0 -
-
No word on decals! Will be a while as Em has a few commissions on.
203 is possible for the rear but even at 185 it feels really nice. When we go to the Alps this summer I'll look into a 203 but it's overkill for Lincolnshire0
