I'll post a crudite review on here, and a 'hey look I'm pretending to be awesome' one on the blog.0

Yup... the frame is fecked. There is some resistance to the swing arm's movement that is not the bearings themselves - something is out of true. I'm still in talks with the seller and Canyon are awaiting further details of the frame so I'll drop some more info on the WIP as it comes...0

oh man gutted to hear that this was looking like being a super build, hope it all gets sorted asap!!0

The swingarm isn't moving 'unrestricted' through it's range when the shock is removed. The first and last thirds of it's movement is very smooth so I don't think the bearings are shot. The Mid third however has a 'springing' sensation to it, like an undamped spring. It wants to bounce back to fully open or fully closed depending on which direction you are pushing the swingarm. It feels like It's having to bend the frame very very slightly so I think something is out of true. It's slight - so I don't think the owner ever knew. I imagine it would just need a tiny amount more damping in the shock to compensate. But repeated flexing could create issues in the long term. Northern suggested a bearing might not be seated right which is a good idea, so I'm taking it to the LBS this weekend for a closer look. Fingers crossed it's a simple issue such as that - but I've never come across anything like it.
Workshop thread here.

It sounds like a bearing to me also, if they are a tiny tiny bit out it will throw the triangle out.0
-
I stripped the seals for the main pivot bearings and they were seized solid. I think the triangle was moving on the 'hat spacer' alone... So it's gone to the LBS for the bearings to be stripped out. I'm thinking I jumped on the 'worst case scenario' bandwagon and a bearing swap will resolve all.
So, get the naked frame back on Wednesday, start the paint strip Wednesday night, and the respray next weekend!0 -

So, is electric blue frame, white forks and rims, red pedals and decals, and gold bars too many colours? Three is the magical number imo but i can only get it down to four...
- gold
- red0 -
I'd lose the red parts tbh, never liked red and blue together.Santa Cruz 5010C

Think I agree. Fortunately, I've some blue V8s somewhere so that solves the red pedals that were moving over with the rest of the Moment's build.0

keep it blue white and gold, trust me it will look the dog danglies..www.bearbackbiking.com

I give you, the SR Suntour Durolux RCA:
2400grams and a bit plus 165 odd for the axle.

And having just measured the visible stanchions... it's clear these are not the 180mm model unless it's internally changed... but they are sold as two seperate forks. So, we get started with the next issue to resolve!0
-
Looks good.. I really like the suntour solution to the 20mm axle.. its very clever... same as on the Epicon on the Fury.
Hope you get it sorted though0 -
Well they look nice, I'm still not sold though! Diehard Rockshox fan here0

Diehard 'money in my wallet' fan here All my bikes have been built up from second hand parts and bargains. But this is certainly a wildcard. I'm taking quite a chance with them as I'm used to Van 36 RC2.0
-
I would have gone with RS as well, hope the gamble pays off, any news on the bearings?0
-
I'd have liked some second hand Lyrics or float 180s but I can't find any for around the 400 mark. They seem to hold their value remarkably well, there must be a lot of people looking to build up light weight freeride bikes at the moment. I've even seen people wanting to swap their Van 180s for floats.0
-
Could have gone Domain but with a weight penalty.0
-
It's a tough call, weight vs reliability. Most people would probably say reliability every time - maybe in my price range that would be my best option. But Suntour have some very good riders on their forks, and if budget options were an unknown quantity, Brian Lopes wouldn't have just signed up with X-Fusion.0
-
Yeah but pro riders won't be riding off the shelf forks, they are tuned and modified for them.
Like you say, they look good, reports are good, but im just like ilovedirt RS all the way.0 -

Fox 36's aren't exactly cheap either
Winstanleys had some brand new 2010 lyrik coils in for £465 (might still have them), so I bought one, really nice fork!0 -
second hand 36s for 300. My fork budget is about 400 for this build. I've looked all over for some older year lyriks and can't see any - but they'd need to be 170mm minimum I think.0
