I'm ticking along much the same. Hoping a quick tour might kick start my season.
I'll never again have a year without a big event to aim for. Motivation very low this year.

Er, yeah, I put on about 10kg since December Most of that is down to being off the bike for a month with gout, but its still pretty shocking.
I struggled to keep the weight off when I had gout and a bad knee too.
Currently 4.5 lbs over my lightest weight so need to focus on getting that off and then push on from there to get down to 13 stone.0 -
How do you do this? Commuting alone, not counting weekend trips because I'm not using endomondo on them, I did roughly 530miles since the end of may. My weight dropped from 238lbs to 231lbs and that happened during first 3-4 weeks, nothing happened afterwards except maybe 1-2lbs ups or downs. And srsly, it's not as flat in Birmingham as one might think, some parts of my daily route still leave me breathless.0

Anyone see that Horizon programme on the health benefits of fasting?
I'm giving it a whirl.
There are different patterns but the one I'm trying is two fast days a week (not consecutive) where you eat about 25% of your normal calorific intake (say 600) then you eat what the f00k you like for the rest of the week.
I've done two fast days so far and it's going quite well - I'm much more tempramentally suited to two tough days a week than continually watching what I eat. Surprisingly, it hasn't left me weak on the fasting days, close to PBs on the commutes both times...0 -

I saw that program. Looked interesting and the sort of diet that would suit me. I have always been told that fasting is bad, because your body goes into starvation mode or something like that.
The thing that puts me off, is that the same science bloke is on a show every few weeks showing how unhealthy he is and some new wonder science that sorts him out .... to start another program back unhealthy again!0 -
Body builders use intermittent fasting for lean muscle growth so it's been around for a while. It works for some people but not others and there are a range of different programmes you can do. It's a question of trying them and seeing how it goes.Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX

BTW for those that didn't see the programme the case for intermittent fasting seems to be:
a) despite the freedom to eat what you want on non-fasting days, most people don't seem to fully make up the "lost" calories from the fast days - appetite tends to limit consumption.
b) it easier to put in spurts of effort than be continually disciplined - fits better with social life (meals with friends, etc) and doesn't feel like a "life sentence"
c) more interestingly, there is research showing that it good to put the body in fat burning mode for 24 hour periods or more. Body chemistry changes and hormones are released that cause the body to repair cells rather than grow new ones - this is thought to reduce the potential for cancer cells to reproduce (i.e., cancer cells are damaged cells which the body will tend to fix in repair mode before they can replicate). It also seems to rebalance blood chemistry away from conditions likely to bring on diabetes
From what I have read, the effects described in c) are very similar to ones brought on by sustained exercise so I suspect many regular cyclists alreay get a lot of these benefits without the need to fast.
One thing that the programme didn't mention that I have found already is that although I'm not starving on fast days, the constanmt pang of hunger has given me a new reference for what it feels like to be hungry - it's helping me realise that I'm usually less hungry than I tell myself I am!0 -
Nearly there. Scales reckon I've lost it mostly in body fat although I don't trust them and I have lost some upper-body bulk from my rowing days. Still need to shift a bit around the middle but I enjoy unhealthy food too much to help out with that and to drop much more would involve a change of diet, cutting out the sugary drinks, beer, wine, curries, chocolate, chips etc, which would be no fun.

My "13st 7" here doesn't really compare to my starting "13st 9" because it was on a different set of scales, and I think the newer ones are more accurate. The old ones say I'm 13st 4 at the moment, so there's about a 5lb discrepancy.
Anyway, I looked into intermittent fasting after the Horizon programme. I haven't gone with the 5/2 thing. I considered "every other day", in which I'd eat normally one day, then very little the next. But at the moment I'm taking a "leangains" approach, in which I eat every day, but my fasting window is extended to 16 or more hours, then I take in the day's calories in the remaining 8 hour window.
I haven't been doing it long enough to really determine how it's going (about a week). I might look into the "every other day" or "alternate day diet" approach, because only eating less half the time seems OK.0 -

Skipping breakfast is a bit daft though mate. I'm on a weight loss drive as well. Was down to 69kg in May, up to 74 last week, down to 73kg this week.
I have a homemade banana smoothie for brekkie - 2 bananas, fat free greek yog, milk and some honey. Then a healthy lunch of fish/chicken and salad, same again for dinner but more carbs. Drinking a lot of water too. No booze during the week as well. Seem to feel perpetually hungry, but given how much I gorged on Holiday that's no great surprise.
Ideally I'd like to get down to 70kg and hold there, hopefully cutting back on the booze will make this achievable!- 2023 Vielo V+1
