Boo. Strava conned me into thinking I was going well, with several segment KOMs and top 10s in the last 2 months.
Then on Saturday I had a race, and came in 1145th place!

How long before Garmin + Strava join forces to provide real-time comparisons
Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.
  • Quick Strava query:

I've made the ends of my commute private by setting up hidden zones. However I only want to hide this from other people; I want to be able to see the stats for the whole of my ride. Any ideas of how to do this?

    Another quick Strava query:

Do KOMs stay forever or are they wiped after a period of time?
e.g. If I was KOM along Embankment with a genuine (not using motorised transport) time, one that left a 23mm wide trail of fire along the tarmac (like those from Marty McFly's Delorean), a time that makes David Brailsford give me a call to offer me a place in Team GB and has Cav feeling inferior, would it still be there in a year (assuming no-one beat it) or would it disappear so that someone as slow as Rick (Red Trousers) Chasey riding a compact could claim some glory.

I assume they wipe the KOM times to keep the interest up.

Whilst I'm in a Strava learning mood, I think I'm right in saying that a Strava user can manually set up a segment, but are some of the segments set up automatically?

I think if you're the first to ride up a cat 4 hill or better then it automatically creates the segment (& you have the option to name)

    I'm not interested in it.
I know I'm faster than most and slower than many, but this is from actually riding and seeing who is around me. I don't care if Johnny McHugethighs is 2 seconds faster than me along an arbitary segment.
Perhaps I'm more Greame Obree than Chris Boardman.

I don't even have a computer on any of my bikes.

Chapeau - thought I was doing well getting a few KOMs in the (not quite) Peak District, but the Pyrenees clearly trumps that!

I'm not interested in becoming a Stravist, I just wondered if the KOMs get periodically wiped.

Probably explains some very odd 'hill' segments that appear on flat (or even downhill) rides every now and again, likely due to someone's elevation data being out of whack. Pretty sure Parliament Sq isn't a Cat 4 climb.

knocked a couple of seconds off kingston gate to Richmond gate cw last night. Back up in the top 220's overall. Deer ruined my chance at a pb lap though! They're more eager to fight you for road space come sun down!
