Strava seems a bit odd. Mr_Ribble appears to have been given a KOM for a segment which he's 1 min 28 secs off the actual KOM... Has this happened to anyone else before?

happens if you upload a ride as a segment is being created.

Ah I see, so although the KOM was set over a year ago, if the segment was created last night it would have made that ride the KOM before finding all the other data and updating it. Makes sense. For the record, it in no way bothers me, just interested as to why it happens!

I got a 4th overall on one of the million sawyers hill segments a few weeks back. Checked it and only 300 rides were recorded. Refreshed the page and I'd already slipped into the 100s but my dashboard still said 4th Overall.

I do sometimes, make segements to look at something, which I'll remove later.

not normally if ever in Richmond Park has to be said, which is segment central.

And have folks noticed strava is moving away from google to OSM which makes sence in some ways.

Google now charge a licence feed for google maps. You'll notice a lot of people moving away from them in the coming months.

  • got quite a few KOM's just recently, last weeks was the best managed to beat a pro rider in the hallfords tour by 11 secs, just waiting for him to return to my area and thrash me mind, but the glory is good at the moment, also got one this morning on a hill near me and wasn't really pushing it, after doing 80 mile commute yesterday
Sorry its not me it's the bike ;o)

GPS having to go back to manufactures as rain has got in :( .....like losing an arm. Of course I'm convinced I'd have got loads of KOMs yesterday if only it had been working..

Off work early so thought I'd sneak an off road lap of Richmond Park. Stopiped by the house to ditch the pannier and off I go. Quite a few people about as it was just gone school kick out time, so had to go steady in places. Manage what felt like a reasonable time for me.
Get home and realise I'd paused the GPS when I went into the house and not restarted it. Ballcocks!!! I was never going to be up with CJ and Padders, but I think I would have been on the front page with a sub 30 minute time. Have to try again another time.

Tempted by a lap of the park on the (ok not really) way home tonight. To go CW or CCW, that is the question.

Finding that short segments (30 seconds-ish) don't seem to record very accurately.

I've got one KOM shared with three others and have recorded an identical time twice even though I used different bikes and felt one was much faster. On another segment, there's five of us with the exact same time/speed. Quite annoying when you really hammer it but just keep getting the same time.

Ah, neither, it's a little sports GPS thing, I'm hoping to hear from them tomorrow about a replacement. My phone is out of the Ark I'm afraid

I can't take going cold turkey!

Went out early on a Surrey Hills route specifically planned to hurt me plenty, taking in Winterfold and Whitedown along the way, pushed it for 70 miles...

Get home and with feverish fingers hit Strava. IT'S DOWN!

For the following hour...F5, F5, F5, it's still down. I've got an itch I can't scratch, I need closure

I'm off to sulk in the sunshine and administer some pale golden fizzy refreshing carbs.

Post liquid refreshment edit: aaaaaaaah, sweeet relief. I now have Strava verifying that I hurt myself needlessly for 4 hours :D

Took a tow off a van up Queens Road this morning.

Looked down and I hadn't pressed start on the Garmin.

Me and a few lads from the club did a little experiment on our Sunday club run, to see how consistent our segment times would be across various gps devices, from garmin units to smartphones.
    I blogged the results here:
    http://www.scarletfire.co.uk/2012/07/smartphones-vs-garmin-which-gps-is-best-for-strava/

One of the surprise findings was just how inaccurate the iPhone 4S was.

Not really surprising gps devices do track better on different days.

Bad data normally means segments don't register, the chance of it gifting a KOM or such is low, it would also be fairly clear if it did.

GPS devices do give wrong data, be that phone or otherwise.

You do know it's possible to fix a segment if it hasn't tracked properly on your GPS?

First decent day in ages (i.e. dry and calm). Just had to pop out to collect something for Mrs F, which enabled me to have a pop at the Strava segment I really want back. Despite baggies, backpack and taking the winter bike, I've now got a share of the KOM, but I'm sorely tempted to get the good bike out and have another shot at it. Weather is not looking too good for the rest of the week...

Good pace. Especially for the time of day, the fastest two times look to be done at favorable times of the day ;)
