Storming ride in, Garmin reckons 21.1mph average on the fixed. Lights were quite kind and the few road bikes out at that hour were duly dispatched. Not a bad start.
One KOM, two more equalled and a 2nd place.

Hehheh. Moorgate is open again in both directions and someone just stole a KOM I didn't know I had. Again.

I've looked at their graph for that segment. Think it's totally wrong. I've not ridden so can't report.

Was told about a couple of Strava tweak sites today

This one allows you to load your Strava rides on one map

    http://www.jonathanokeeffe.com/strava/map.php

    http://www.jonathanokeeffe.com/strava/s ... etails.php
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Thought I'd give the Courthouse Sprint (North) a go today, avg about 30mph and only came in 6th  . I think that has set my mood for the day.

    That is all.

Its set up so you need to get lucky with the lights at the start AND the finish - practically never happens. Had a go this morning but pretty sure lights stopped play :(

Still 2 secs down on you, but a green at the end would have helped (I got one at the start but took a sec to realise I should go for it). Trying to do it at 8:30 with a bunch of nodders didn't help either, they must have thought I was crazy as I flew past at twice their speed looking possessed.

Disappointed to see that the 3-lap challenge segment in Richmond Park has been marked as hazardous.

Apologies if this has already been discussed. I'm not a regular on this thread.

Meh, there are about 1 million other segments for RP laps. Far too many in fact. Strava need to sort this out.

Also the lap segments are usually all wrong. Best apparently to use your gamin for the actual time. As it had me down as doing it 20 secs faster than I did.

Yep, Garmin all the way for reliable times (& 3lap challenge times). Strava is unreliable and tends to gift time, and GPS tracking on some devices is pretty inaccurate, typically smart phones.

Case in point, this morning I did two gentle laps of RP:

    Strava says 18:41 and 18:56
    Garmin says 18:47 and 19:00

Ok so not miles out but out all the same.

For me it was the difference between being sub 50 and not :(

I think Strava is probably flagging segments where the top times are in excess of the speed limit - Tower Bridge and Richmond Park are both 20mph zones and some of the segment leader average speeds are more like 30mph, I guess I can see how that might lead to issues...

I don't think they should be able to flag for dangerous - only cheating.

It's only dangerous if you ride like a t!t.

How come all the strava segments are so short?

Does Strava do this automatically or are people setting these up?
  • okgo
    okgo Posts: 4,368
They're not. Its just the London ones tend to be shorter.

I think it's more that some people are killjoys and like to suck the fun out of a sunny day. There are segments in Bushy Park on a wide, flat path with good visibilty all round that have been flagged as dangerous. It's like the path from Pen Ponds to Ham cross in Richmond Park, but quieter.
I grant you it could be dangerous if you were riding fast when there are lots of kids and dogs around. But, there are times when it's really quiet. Why would anyone flag it as dangerous unless they just can't stand the pace so are sulking?

I guess the thing is any segment is fine if you take care? I'm surprised that Bushy Park ones had problems, being much quieter even sunny weekends, than Richmond Park.

I'm not terribly surprised that Richmond Park segments get flagged, there is and has been for many years a fair bit of local politics regarding 3 lap challenge and well the use of the park by cyclists.

Lost my only KOM last night, which was doubly gutting as I didn't even know I had it in the first place.

Chap I work with took full advantage of last night's southerly.

Annoyed I was on PT today as it looks like there was a gale blowing from the southwest so could have been some wind assisted segments there for the taking.

    I thought that.

Unfortunately, I hit every red light there was, and it would occasionally gust the wrong way.

Anybody having issues uploading from an iPhone?

My rides will upload in the web, however on the feed on the phone it says they are still uploading. Now my last ride wont even upload to the web! Happened a few days ago so I deleted it and re-installed it, worked fine for a few days and now stopped again. Don't want to delete again as I makes you loose the data from your last ride.

Wouldn't mind but I think I might have scored a KOM

I'm having problems with Strava knocking corners off my rides and showing me doing straight lines across the Thames at the moment.

Presumed it was a central London issue but just got back from a 36-mile loop round Surrey and it's still not working right.

    Any ideas?

seems fine, as fine as a older iphone ever is any way at the moment ie pot luck as to which segments it matches and not!
