I tried 20% once. It wasn't a pleasant walk either. But then I'm "a lot" heavier than even Ribble, or Beyonce's husband.

We accidently came across this nice 25% dig a couple of weekends ago http://app.strava.com/rides/8454797#154923370 I was not amused, managed to grind my way up at 2.7mph - that hurt.

Followed by this one at 20% http://app.strava.com/rides/8454797#154923364

    Now I was just annoyed

Warning: Pizza and beer the night before early intervals may not be a good idea. No resurfacing issues, but the repeating taste is a little unpleasant.

Fook but it was hard work in RP at 6am this morning. Took a pitiful tilt at the 3lap challenge. Felt like I was going hard, but the lap times were miles off the pace - best lap was a whole minute off my year's best. 54:37 is nowhere near good enough. I'm blaming tiredness from Cyprus and the time of day, but bottom line is - Must Do Better, a lot better.

Might have another crack at it sometime over the long weekend, at a more sensible time of day, but I'm never gonna get close to the likes of Mr.Ribble and Big Mat. Chapeau chaps.

I dont think you had the wind in your favour. When I went down Sawyers this morning I felt no presence of a headwind. Wait for a good easterly and that will help you no end.

Less of that defeatist talk! It really is dependent on conditions - wind, temperature, traffic (and that's before you get on to the stuff you can actually control). It didn't feel like I had good conditions the other night, but in retrospect I think the wind must have been in my favour. Trouble is when you are hurting you never think things are going well, so you end up convincing yourself that there must be a headwind the whole way round!

Temp this morning was about 12. From what I understand an increase in air temp to 22 or so should probably be worth at least 30 seconds or so. Marginal gains!

    Right conditions for me

    1. Rested legs for a day and a half
    2. Quiet Sunday evening with just one twunt who was driving slowly while the girlfriend was hanging out the sunroof like it was fricking safari
    3. Easterly
    4. Sodding quick Dynamo who passed me on the last lap (up Dark) and got 100m up the road within seconds. I chased that wheel so hard it felt like I was having a baby. Turns out he was a sub 50 minuter.

Pacing is important. That good lap I did the other day when the easterly was very strong was a testament to that, I took Sawyers at tempo as opposed to threshold, and in doing so had plenty more to power over the top and really hit the downhill to Kingston hard.

I hit Sawyers quite hard but pretty much ambled up Dark Hill - I reckon that stretch from the top of Dark Hill to the little dip before Broomfield descent you can lose a shedload of time on if you burn your legs up Dark...

Getting sick of seeing Jzed at the top of all the leaderboards I've logged times on.

Is it the same guy off here?

However, I've found one where I am above him.

Fuck - this is addictive. Off to the park tomorrow - hope it's not full of drivers treating it like a safari park. They should get rid of the deer.

Hmm Just got a uh-oh email about a lost KOM but when I logged in i'm still top, has the guy who stole my kom deleted his ride or something?

    *edit*

In the email it said it was beaten by 1 min 45 sec, and by my rough maths that would mean a average speed of 37mph, and on this sort of segment I would doubt anything over 30mph - http://app.strava.com/segments/1162059

This strava is to addictive, now planning different routes to work just to collect some segments

Well finally got in there and did 3 laps, wasn't too held up at all, slowed a touch on the first lap due to a car (might have cost me a 15.xx lap) a momentary slow for a deer lap 2, and another momentary slow as my chain dropped from big to small ring.

I also had the 'it's time to MTFU' email from Strava Wednesday, so I did. Regained my KoM today but only by 18sec but improved my PB by 2 minutes.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Would have thought you'd be faster up dark hill though? 7 seconds slower 2nd time up, too?
Maybe if I didnt kill myself up dark hill I'd recover quicker and be overall faster between kingston and broomfield. It definatly takes me a good minute or more to get up to speed again after dark hill.

    okgo Posts: 4,368
As I said, it's about pacing. And I went too hard on first lap. You going up dark hill 10 secs faster but then losing 40 secs trying to get up to speed isn't the fastest way.

For one hard lap, I'd put more effort into the hills as there is plenty of time left there to shave off if it's only
    A 15 min effort.
