As I said, it's about pacing. And I went too hard on first lap. You going up dark hill 10 secs faster but then losing 40 secs trying to get up to speed isn't the fastest way.

For one hard lap, I'd put more effort into the hills as there is plenty of time left there to shave off if it's only
    A 15 min effort.

Can I take all the credit for the Dark Hill tip?!:lol:

I rarely get any achievements on my rides, mainly as I'm slow. But, I seem to get proportionally more on the few occasions I ride my old Marin. How can a rigid MTB with 2.5" tyres that rumble as they roll be faster than my Jake with 25mm Conti's? Maybe I should always use the Marin.

Ha, how does it sound in your head?

I was thinking ok-go like the band! Spotify paid me to change my username as the band wanted to use it to make a playlist or something, quite amusing.

I've just created a round up of third party tools for getting more out of your Strava data.
Some are very useful, some are nice to look at, some are a bit more "niche", shall we say.
Let me know if I've missed any good ones!

Some randommer gave me kudos for a ride I did in and around Cambridge on Monday

Strange thing is, looking on his profile, he's not ridden those roads recently - since he lives in Newmarket.

    Weird.

    Not nearly that quick!

PB from a couple of years ago was 53:10. No aero gear, mind, and the wheels were stock ksyriums.

These days I tend to do longer runs in the park if I do go. I've turned into a diesel with age :( I may have to try some flying 1-lappers to see if I can tune the top end a bit. (Not that hopeful)

Everyone has their strengths, arguably mine is something very much like Richmond Park. You'd be in a different time zone to me up a mountain I reckon.

He's in a different time zone to most in them there mountains!

Chapeau on your time Rob, very very quick. I'm determined to get a 3 lapper in one warm summer evening, just need to wait for the planets to align  Would be overjoyed with a 53 or so though.

@Jon In your experience does training for endurance/long rides etc take a little off the top end? Or is it just a case of getting older?

I think it's more a case of being very, very lazy ;)

But yes, I think so. Not doing regular interval sessions or hard single laps means you're training your body to go more slowly but for longer. Yesterday was a case in point: 1:54 for six laps but at no point did I go 'fast'. Diesel, diesel, diesel.

May throw in a few efforts on the cols...

Edit: legs are feeling the effort from yesterday too. Getting old

Makes sense to train to your goals as you say Jon. Flying round the park aint gonna help you get up a HC climb!!

But oddly I do go on long hard grinding rides, not sure they really help with two hours road races really, but still. Probably going to get some clip on bars for a long TT I did last year, and will maybe go full aero and such for another 3 laps after July (lots of racing in July, so hope to get fitter) and see if I can get any closer to Steve (and in the back of my mind is Andy Bye's time from when he was about to go pro in 2008). Not sure if previous times have been TT bike etc though.

Heh heh, I didn't say it wasn't a decent effort but I don't think I once went above 26mph on the flat. It was just a consistent run.

Anyway, your 3lc time from march says you're not far off the above

Nice one, thanks. There are some great tools in there, and they'll continue to develop, which is rather exciting.
Please share the page via Facebook /twitter to help spread the goodness around.
I've not come across any other webpage listing third party strava tools, so thought I'd make one.
I've already discovered another tool, stravaviewer, which I'll add to the article later.
