I for one would like a couple of grades higher in the weight classes. Only way I'm gonna win (and it's ALL about the winning!)
What do you mean you think 64cm is a big frame?

Late(r) start & clear(er) roads meant some good speed but the 2nd in a row 2AM-5AM having to go to work to sort sh1t out slightly spoilt it :(

Tower Bridge N was particularly frustrating as heavy traffic the other side of the hump got in the way of a good start :(

Hopefully tonight I will get un-interrupted sleep and feel a bit fresher for the ride in...

I was pretty chuffed with this effort this morning along the drag into Hammersmith :)

I had some help from another chap who I had been swapping places with since Barnes.

Nice one Matt, I'll have to alternate between the Embankment the the "fast route" over H'smith Bridge, see if I can get near that 26!!

    What route is that?

I'm sure I could improve my time on that section, its actually a fairly easy KOM as it doesn't get the traffic and what not of anything in central!

I work in the West End and originally travelled via RP - Priory Lane - URR - then left onto Rocks Lane - Castelnau - Hammersmith Bridge - darn the 'Bush - Holland Park - NH Gate and onto Bayswater Road and points west.

My new route via Putney Bridge and the Embankment adds 2 (enjoyable-ish) miles to the journey but more SCR and segments.

So what's the deal with Amersham Way? I'm now KOM, but my fastest time has been deleted as has the previous KOM time. Odd...

    Still there, right? 35s.

There seems to be something odd about that segment anyway - look at the elevation profile. Sure it's steeper than 0.6%.

I was at 27 seconds before. Agree its an odd segment, still I'll settle for another KOM having lost a couple recently (pesky people on here keep beating my times   )

"Ridden 94 times by 30 people"
  • Nothing to set the world alight especially but a PB on the long Lewisham High St - Downham Way segment sort of demonstrates what a difference drop bars make - I was in the drops for the whole windy section between Lewisham and Catford* and I'm pretty sure I carried a lot more speed through it than normal. I'm thinking of going back to going round the gyratory as that bus lane is very bumpy and always involves getting stuck at 2 red lights. If you're lucky with the gyratory you get greens all round. Then I've just got to be lucky with the other hundred or so sets of lights on that segment and I might actually trouble the higher reaches of the leaderboard.

*NB I actually looked at a map the other day and realised this section goes SW, or more accurately, SSW. I'd always assumed the A21 just heads due south, but not so. Since the prevailing wind is SW this explains why there always seems to be a headwind here. After Catford the road swings eastwards, and sure enough the headwinds usually aren't as bad. Yes I know, I'm boring.

  • That looks like it involves a degree of bike handling ability, so for that reason, I'm out (for the time being, anyway...)

Thought I'd gone pretty fast through the Bermondsey Spa section this morning but I was a good 3mph off my PB set on the old bike. I think the main issue is I need to grow a pair, I'm still slightly nervous sprinting in the drops. It just feels so damn fast, like driving a car that's really low to the ground or summink.

Yeah, it does take time. Feels like you're going to ride yourself into the road for a while. Also varies between bikes, e.g. when riding my training bike, I can climb out of the saddle holding the bar tops, which I can't do on my racer.
  • Much more fun riding home after 7, maybe I should start working longer hours. Had a nice quick run through the Jamaica Rd Rumble for once, and equalled my best on Reverse Brookmill (and got my highest-ever 'score' on the speed sensor - 27mph). Seemed like there might have been a bit of headwind although I'm pretty sure it was a sou-wester today so would have been a cross-wind really. Blew up a bit after that and the headwind down the A21 was very strong so things tailed off a bit the rest of the way.

    Bugger!

I had a sleepless night & no energy this morning & I'm sure there was a bit of a headwind so a slow run in but I thought I'd give it a go on Tower Bridge North. Just before the lights changed 2 m/c outriders, a grey Range Rover and a police Range Rover went past up the bridge, so I thought great - route clearers! Shot off up the hill only to find that I was quickly gaining on the cops & caught them up just at the end of the bridge. I know they don't appreciate getting overtaken so had to back off :(

What's the point of blue flashing lights & outriders if you can't go fast

    Wonder who it was...

Whichever dignitary it was, they obviously wanted to savour the view going over the bridge! I got caught behind a corporate taxi type vehicle doing the same going south over London bridge yesterday, then as I went to overtake the bugger sped up :x

Re wind, not sure what it was doing this morning, seemed to move about a bit, but in general I think it was a headwind for those of us going north. Blimmin' strong gusts, anyway - I actually had to give it some to pick up speed going down Bromley Hill!

:D It was really quite blowy, but... I'm already looking forward to the way home. Aiming for 60km/h down the bricklayers ramp then sustained effort all the way down to New Cross. Neeeeooooowwww!

Even from inside the office, I felt the wind shift direction as that post was made

Actually, I don't wish to alarm you but the clouds do seem to be moving in an easterly direction at a rate of knots...

Edit: which of course is more or less ideal for a blast down the OKR. Forget I spoke...

Wind was quite unpleasant for down here. I ride in a north westerly direction and it seemed to be just off head on most of the time, but occasionally an Italian cross wind (kept changing sides).
No energy at all, plus I put my 35mm Marathon Pluses on at the weekend. It all conspired to make that my slowest ride in. Average of 12.5mph.
