Mat you were on fire yesterday! 3rd Loampit, KOM Tower Bridge North, 2nd Old Kent Road... then 2nd Amersham Way & 2nd Col de Molesworth on the way home!

Did you eat your shredded wheat in the morning?

After a week or so off Strava due to it not playing ball it's working again.

Well I deleted it and then installed it again, seems to work fine now :)

I worked out it is MUCH better at picking up segments when in my bag in an outer pocket rather than in my jersey pocket under my bag.

Improved some times last night, slowly moving onto the front page (top 25) of all times, with a couple of top 10s. I am starting to feel like a badly trained dog the way I chase traffic trying to go for the drafting!

Random timed commutes are the future! Much less traffic than usual on the way in at around 3pm, finally had a decent run at Loampit but bus at the top insisted on veering left (there isn't even a stop there is there?) which cost me a few crucial seconds. Otherwise all good, legs didn't feel great and bit of a headwind but the traffic / lights parted for me like the red sea. The way home was a mixed bag. Pleased with the Amersham Way time, when I first saw that KOM I thought it must be a motorbike but I'm now within 2 seconds. Molesworth was a joint KOM I think, although not deserved - ran out of steam towards the top which shouldn't really happen on a segment that short!

Anyone doing the Rapha Turkey Takeoff thing.
.... despite us not having an extra christmas in the middle of november!!

9000kcal in 5 days at the end of Nov does not seem easy, but I'll give it a go.

9000cal is a lot for 5 days. That works out at about 250 miles, so 50 miles a day :O

Respect to anyone that achieves it but I'll let the Americans try and loose their Thanksgiving weight by themselves.

  • It is 250 miles in 5 days - the challenge small print says they are working on a 1 mile=36 cals basis.

Not for me, ta - good luck to those attempting it though!

    I *think* I'll do it...

But not sure how many miles I'll be doing saturday. But if I'm only 20-30 away on sunday I'll go and do them I guess!

I hadn't appreciated it was 250 miles. Very little prospect of me doing that but will extend the commute Wednesday to Friday and may get up to 100 miles +, would then need a very long and a quite long couple of weekend rides - only chance is if wife and kids go away for the weekend!

That Amersham Way segment seems abit of a funny KOM if you check the speeds the averages are way out for some reason

That Neil Manning's average speed was 32.7mph but his max speed on that segment was 21.7mph hmmm smells fishy :)

Are you KOM on the river segment then ? :D

I'm guessing it works on the actual "points" and the elapsed time between them? Therefore spot reported speeds will be irrelevant, its the overall time over the ground? As an example, his Tower Bridge North run peaks at 29mph just before the crest of the bridge going up - like NFW, I know he's fast but 22mph to 29 like that when he'd been cruising 21/22 then dropping to 19 on the peak, all in 6 seconds or 100m? His whole route for that trip is simillarly up & down.

Tis true, blame it on the Android. I think the overall times are generally accurate though. If there's been any major loss of data you can usually tell by the straight lines on the map. I have got my bike computer working for the first time in months so can keep an eye on times / speeds to verify. Right, about to hit the road...

I am, but its set as "private". 32 seconds across London Bridge southbound for the record, was gutted when it placed me in the river :(

It seems just as odd on iPhone. There's 3 segments for millbank and they're all nearly the same yet it thinks I've averaged 29mph for one yet 25 for another...?

Was on a flyer on Millbank south tonight and met the Tate Trafficlight of Terror :(. Plus I need to take the stock tyres off and put contis on. Painted lines like ice tonight :(
What do you mean you think 64cm is a big frame?

Having looked at the segment it seems to end a fair bit on from where I thought it did, I would probably have gone top on that given I was well over 30 for most of it, up to 37! Looking at Keyzers and Ed-F's I think there is a huge glitch there tbh...?

I don't think its right for those two, especially not Ed's, he goes above 30 very briefly then drops below for the duration and it reckons a 32 mph average? Bunch of shit.

Are you questioning the veracity of my KOM! The Garmin 705 never lies ... well, in fact, it does if you have it the data recording set on smart recording rather than recording the data points every second. When I got that KoM back in July I was on smart recording which means there could be up to a five second error (this is according to Steve Irwin, by the way). But its my KoM and I'm keeping it ... you'll just have to ride faster :D

    Git! :)

Steve would know about that, it's his area of expertise! (calculations, and riding decking fast)

And to be fair to the rest of the top 5 or so their rides look legit, just yours and Keyzers even more so - he was over 30 mph for 3-5 seconds and it still spits out nearly a 32mph average... Shame its so bizarre in its measurements! Not having a go Keyzer, just saying chap :P You seemed to have glitched a fair amount on the other segment where it says you got to 45 mph twice and went through some buildings next to the road...

  • I mentioned that ride a while ago. Wheel-based computer had me well over 30mph all the way along. Strava measures segments based off a start and an end point and time taken between, so if the readings inbetween are inaccurate/off it comes up with random speeds/speed jumps, but unless you've got a reading at both the start and the end the segment won't be recorded, as has happened to me on several occasions. Barely ever get any of the eastbound Embankment segments to register for example. I've got several quick times on the Millbank South section (and corresponding speed on the Millbank North) and other members on here have seen me on quick runs and will verify my pace down there so unless you're claiming they're all glitchy then MTFU, go faster and maintain your speed to the finish line next time

Nothing. Sadly it won't do power readings as the altimeters in phones aren't accurate enough, and the only other thing I've noticed is being able to break segment results down by age/weight which really isn't worth the bother.

Especially as 90 kg is the cut-off for the top weight class.
