Not a scooby, I'm afraid. Seems to be becoming a more common occurence, in that I seem to think I've seen at least 2 other random police road closures in the last year or so. Although thinking about it, one of them may have been to prevent would-be rioter-looters accessing Lewisham High St.0

Off topic slightly, but if you had the whole of London to loot, would you choose Lewisham High St?0 -

Kev,
I can highly recommend this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Holux-003-40002 ... 073&sr=8-1
It records cadence and HR using ANT+ and you can export your rides as .gpx and upload to strava. Picks up GPS signal quickly and hasn't failed to record anything for me yet, had it just over a month so far and ridden with it in all kinds of crappy weather. It comes with a program to download your stuff to (no other way to get the .gpx off the device as far as I can tell). The program (EZtour plus) shows you your HR and cadence info, but this doesn't get exported as part of the .gpx and I can't work out a way to get it out. Fine for Strava though!
If you just want the route data they do cheaper devices like this:
http://www.holux-uk.co.uk/holux-gpsport ... &p=1&so=0#
I also spotted these on the rosebikes site but can't vouch for them, seem to be sold out at the mo' anyway:

Why don't you recreate the segment and see what time you "would" have done if it had all been on track? I did that for Tower Bridge South (by the water) and it would have moved me up. I also found that I had done it 7 times before!
Just done this, made a private segment called 'Bermondsey Spa' which is a rough approximation - did that in 48 secs. I reckon if it'd tracked me properly this morning it would have been a PB, not KOM though. IN fairness, not really that great a performance as I'm fairly sure when I set my PB it was from a standing start and with a minor hold-up at the end, whereas this was a flying start and no hold-ups.0 -

Ha - nice work! That's probably approaching the upper limit of my speed, tbh - but I'll see what I can do next time the traffic light gods smile on me.
Not that it really matters but I've realised that Tooley St is usually disastrous for my overall average speed - there is just no way of carrying any decent speed through there, unless you enjoy mowing down peds of course. Wondering if Tower Bridge and Tower Hill/Lower Thames St might be better, as the entrance to my office is on Arthur St which I think can be accessed from LTS - or can it?0 -
Gah two second short of the London Bridge Southbound KOM and then a Mr Reichardt takes the crown on Sunday morning - with an average speed of 58.7km.. and a top speed of 69.0km... do I detect a motorbike? Or just a blip on Android?

Oscar, I share your pain! That new KOM for London Bridge does look suspiciously fast, although I did unofficially clock a 32s ride myself once (didn't register as it had me in the river!) so it might be genuine?0

Have started riding in a different way having got bored of my old route. It's a couple of miles further but potentially a bit quicker!0
-
If you want to save a bit of mileage from Loampit, then go Brookmill, Deptford Church, Evelyn, Lower, Jamaica etc. The route you take to Tower Bridge is about 1/2 mile longer. Save another 1/10th of a mile by cutting through the park at the end of Lewisham Way, Sandford/Trundleys & coming out back of Surrey Quays/one-way.

I'm thinking of a little detour tonight to work on my hill-climbing. Think I'll chuck a right up the Mur de Beckenham, then on into Beckenham town centre, a left towards Shortlands on the main road (another ascent with a Strava segment), then right after Shortlands station to climb Queen's Mead Rd/Glassmill lane up into Bromley, emerging by Primark. No segment for the Glassmill climb it seems, so I will of course create one once done.
My original plan was to carry on past home and do Logs Hill, which is kind of Bickley-ish and extremely steep, but I think I'll save that for another time.0 -

A fine selection. Go straight on at Shortlands if you dare and take Beckenham lane up to the Swan and Mitre. Remember to pack oxygen.
I note there are now three of us tied on 44s down Molesworth. All points to JF's attempt being a fluke.0 -

Well don't expect anything too spectacular, climbing is most certainly not my forte!
SL,
Hmm, I thought my back way was a harder climb but I suppose Beckenham Lane is quite vertiginous now I think about it. I used to live in Shortlands and just walking up it to Bromley was a bit of a challenge. Traffic must be a bit of a 'mare though, no? I'm not sure I want a queue of cars sitting impatiently on my tail as I grind up at 8 mph on the granny ring!0 -

ROFL!!!
I'd more or less pootled back, chatting away with a fixie (maddiej from Bexley?) & thought I'd have a blast at Col de Molesworth. Came off the r/about with a clear road ahead, wound it right up and went for it. Up to 27, road ahead clear, nothing behind, looking good...
Then I hit the brick wall, I blew, I ran out of energy... Oh no! I struggled to the end and limped home
Looking at the graphs you can see the speed rise then gradually tail off as I ran out of puff Only managed to equal my previous best. Oh well, **it happens & its only my 3rd full run. Underfueled and badly paced again.

Going to give it Molesworth another run on the way in and way home tommorrow to see if I can improve it further going to be wearing the lucky green jersey , only had the 2 runs down there so far with a 39 and a 410 -
Well that was a fun little detour. Got chased up Beckenham Hill by a chuffing massive bin lorry, which undoubtedly helped my pace. The climb on Bromley Rd to Shortlands was a bit boring but a fellow cyclist at the lights was enough to ensure I gave it a bit of effort up there. The Glassmill one is a really short sharp job - it goes from flat to bloomin steep in no time at all, then it's over. Had to drop to middle chainring, middle cog and grind up on the pedals - felt like I was going walking pace!
But nice to hit a few hills and have the descents afterwards to make it worthwhile - normally my only hill is a climb then I'm home. Think I'll start doing this once a week, maybe more as my strength improves/weight drops (dropped under 18st today for the first time in living memory, btw 8) )0 -
Puff,
It's the pootle what done it I reckon - I've done best on Molesworth when I've had a fairly fast run up to that point. Must be something to do with being well warmed up.
Then I generally spend the rest of the journey home in pain...0 -
Decided on a whim to do Loampit route today (real reason: calves were protesting slightly after a mere couple of extra miles and hills last night, and I didn't fancy giving it beans down Brookmill, as I always feel vaguely obliged to do).
Bit frustrating - got stuck behind a nodder in the bike lane on the way up Loampit, no way past him sadly. On Sandford St a car slowed me down by slowing for the speed bumps. Trundleys is one bumpy road - kind of an apt name in fact.
But I like it, nice to have a bit of a change and the lack of traffic lights compared to the other way is great. As for Loampit, on a decent run I reckon I can do reasonably well up there, but the leaders can probably sleep safely.0 -

Loampit is a pain at the moment as they're re-doing the pavement on the other side and have blocked the bus lane. I tend to go up the outside of the traffic anyway 'cos I don't think people are too aware of the cycle lane - just watch out for people turning right where the surgery is!1997 Gary Fisher Big Sur
