I only use it occasionally if the mood takes me. The biggest influence on time for me is heavy traffic at this end, followed by dog walkers in Bushy Park and the number of people trying to get around Kingston.
It's a bit of fun and interesting to see relative times. If I go round Richmond Park I will just be shown up. I'll still have a go though.
Sorry kingston Bridge is now in! ;-)
Rats! Todays excuse will be a big girl, nearly got blown off.
KoM.
Well, I am easily distracted. I tend to take the bridge slowly on the path going into Kingston rather than ride through deathrace tunnel. I'll have to MTFU.
I don't like the exits for the bike paths so, unless I've come along the tow path and then over the bike path, I just punch it over the bridge, the tunnel is fine as I'm fairly heavy so I can more than match cars speed. bit I hate is catching a light just off the roundabout so you have to grind up the slight incline.
But on a good day I can rocket though.
I hate those lights at the bottom of the bridge, just before the roundabout. That's why I always go though the bus station and on the cycle track over the bridge. 9/10 I find it's quicker because of the lights.
hampton wick - kingston or vis versa.
can't say I like the tunnel leaving kingston though I dislike the exit on to the roundabout (at hampton Wick) even more!0 -
It's generally horrible at both ends. I tend to cross the bridge on the Hampton Court side path going in or out and go through the bus station. Going out of Kingston the little ramp onto the Hampton Court Road lets you merge at the same speed as the traffic. Going into Kingston the roaundabout at Hampton Wick is a complete bun fight. I've nearly come to blows on there a couple of times. The most memorable was when I nearly got taken out by a bloke texting whilst negotiating a roundabout.0
-
That roundabout at Hampton Wick is where I did come off last month when a John Lewis van pulled out in front of me. I was heading from Hampton to Kingston and they came out of Hampton Wick. Still waiting on the insurance investigation.
I use the cycle tracks over the bridge in both directions, but I use the tracks going in the direction of traffic so I use the tunnel on the way into Kingston and go via the bus station on the way out.
I love that little ramp just before the crossing past the roundabout that lets you merge into traffic at speed.Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX

3rd fastest all time on Millbank N today, 1 second of 2nd place.
2nd fastest today on Westminster to Blackdriars. CB to AB wasn't bad (4th today) but work to do there. Pre-CB was traffic impaired.
Funnily enough the ride home was a little slower.FCN3: Titanium Qoroz.0 -

Oooh Kudos thats fast - now going to have to have a stab tomorrow at flat out through that segment and take it a bit easier on all the others.
EDIT: Did you walk home?0 -
For some reason I'm never fast on Millbank South. Weird. Anyway, I heard the wind dropped by 9 so was much easier on those returning from work/pub/the secretary or whatever else kept them at work lateFCN3: Titanium Qoroz.0

Didn't pick me up going over Kinngston Bridge in the road. Where's the segment to and from?0

So decided to use the "School of Ron Approach to Strava slaying",
Method No 1: Go slow all the way to Millbank and then hammer the Millbank North segment.
Result: Matched Ron's time of 55 seconds. Average speed down below 20 to 18.2mph. Notice Ron had 17.9mph so should have gone a bit slower before.
Limiting factors: Reckon tailwind was nowhere near as useful as yesterday.
Next Method - No2- ride the whole week before very slowly, and then ride in slowly and give it everything for Millbank*
I think I've 2-3 seconds in there somewhere.
Asssuming Ron will come along now and have gone faster.
*I can't bring myself to do this. Will just have to ride flat out everywhere and see if I can take the crown honourably0 -

Col du B'lam is just too early, I'd only got out of bed 15mins prior and it's all of 2 mins into the commute. Think I hit the start at 32 though so might be a decent time.0 -

2nd on Westminster > Blackfriars Ramp today
Strang really as I wasn't trying that hard as I was on the Bianchi!
I'vegot another do after work today, which means a commute home at around 8:30pm again. :twisted:0 -
Hey, So I've got myself a Holux 260 Pro, looking forward to this Strava stuff, http://app.strava.com/athletes/153639 is me. Only had a chance to pop one up so far - that was two bulging panniers into the wind on Friday evening. Somehow appear to be beating JZed on the E&C to Clapham Common southbound segment? Anyway, I'll stick today's up when I'm home tonight and see how I fare...

E&C to Clapham Common? I must have had a few beers and gone home the wrong way.0 -

You still beat my best time :x
Wait till monday, I'm convinced I can get KOM on that bit. I hit the bottom at 30+ the other morning only to be caught by the ped lights near the top, going to go flat out for it on Monday.--

Yeah, that was yesterday on the fixed. I'll upload geared this evening  :twisted:0 -
Just checked out the current KOM on Balham Hill and think there needs to be a stewards enquiry.... James Free went out on a sunday morning and only did balham hill then went back down the hill and home. Not really SCR if you ask me!Banstead in Surrey to Russell square and back

Anyway, I'll be uploading my segments (fnar) tonight see how well this morning's ride went. While it won't have a new Millbank top time, I think I've done alright elsewhere. We shall see.
BTW, I reckon if I picked a quieter time to hit Millbank I might be able to get down to 53s. Faster than that is going to require some training and I think that goes against the SCR ethos.FCN3: Titanium Qoroz.0 -

Surely he must have been on the turbo before hand, that's far too short a ride to suddenly give an effort like that I mean your legs would hardly be warmed up and stretched!
I reckon Strava+Xmax drinks @ Morpeth+Bo-Bikes could be a dangerous combination.....0 -
Just a quick question, hope you Strava bods can help... I've uploaded my one ride with the gps thing so far. Why has it only recognised that I've been through two segments?
My commute:
http://app.strava.com/rides/1888734
It looks like I'm riding this segment for instance:

In my defence that was before I have joined the silly commuting racing group Knowing i could properly smash it if I got a clear run I had to give it a go
I will remove that run now I have got into the SCR business
Though will take a little detour to hit in on my commute home tonight as I know I can easily take 2-3 seconds of my current KOM0 -
