Millbank sprint didn't happen for me last night - gears were skipping, brake was rubbing, rear skewer wasn't tightened. Happy with the 18.8mph average into a headwind.
Now if only my garmin hadn't naffed up this morning I reckon I'd have had a good time for the Millbank.
Jesus, I'm around 246lbs at the moment, your almost as fat as me.....--

Is it normal for my Garmin 500 to be out by 30-40 feet in some places? 85% of the time it sticks me bang in the middle of the road when I display my route in strava or garmin connect but recently it has been missing the occasional section as it doesn't have me on the actual road0

I think +/-10m is the level of accuracy the US Military give for thhe civilian signal.Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX

Yes completely normal all kinds of variables affect it, including obstructions more the 5 degrees in angle from the horizon (building etc), weather conditions. The signals can be reflected off the road & buildings etc so if you are riding in built area in over cast of rainy conditions it can affect things. The accuracy of GPS receiver clock can make a massive difference too, in a £100 GPS bike computer how good is the clock going to be? note you are dealing with differences in time caused by the speed of light over the distance between you and the satellite small margins. Then there's the fact that certain "features" are still military only, this certainly used to be the case that the satellites sent out bad info every now and again which meant accuracy war 100 meters at best, only military GPS could correct this as they knew the algorithm for which was bad signal and which was not. However some clever people "fixed" this by using a know point transmission such as RDS or FM radio or Road layout to correct the bad signals so this has now been turned off, I still think that military GPS is more accurate though. They can also encrypt the GPS signal in the event of war to make it military only.
So yes normal.--

I thought my Garmin got the time from GPS satellites?
FWIW, I only notice lack of accuracy when it hasn't gotten full signal (which is quite rare).0 -
If I set my Garmin 500 up with a course to follow in town it sometimes tells me that I'm off course when I know I'm not. I think it has a tough time in built up areas with tall buildings and lots of roads close together. it's not so bad out in the country...Do not write below this line. Office use only.0

Does the power calculation based on weight work for anyone else?
I've put in my weight and my bike weight and made the bike my default, but still no power output. It says it's calculated and to reload the page, but when I do it's blank.Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX

@Asprilla - Strava looks at the bike you put - Carrera right - and decides that based on it being made from jelly there is no way you could put any power down hence the Nil Power.0 -

I get power, I assume based on weight. Although there were some Bizarre readings on commute this morning in a couple of places including 900+watts on what looks like a down hill section.--

I get exactly the same, I tried taking my weight out, altering it but it doesn't change0 -
I wonder if the power is GPS upload from Garmin thing that the mobile app can't do?
I'm using a Garmin Edge 305--

It might be the (lack of) elevation data then. The app won't have this and only some of the Garmin models have an altimeter.
Garmin connect overcomes missing elevation on the device by adding in topographical information from other sources, i'll bet Strava does not does this.0 -

upgraded to Premium too thanks for the code.
I have laid off the segments for a little bit but if someone knocks me off the top of Balham Hill might have to have a cheeky detour on the way to work!0 -

Sounds like an invitation to have a stab - just need to get the garmin to work. Will see what the app is like tonight.0 -

So i can use my Garmin 705 to take part in this?... Really feel like i'm missing out.
(this is dependent on them replacing it as the bracket failed, it popped off and assume it got run over by a trailing car as it's completely destroyed / squashed - which i guess wouldn't happen just hitting the ground.. I got a case right?)0 -

I'm using a 310xt but I don't upload straight to the app. I upload to Garmin Connect and then export the .gpx files to Strava. Might me that.
Elevation is included on my routes.Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX

The Garmin is back alive. PITA having to work out how to get it into storage mode when it automatically kept restarting, and then having to remove all the rides. Suppose Strava may be a little faster now.0

I queried this with Strava, it seems at present they only have a detailed elevation database for the US, To get the power info your computer/phone has to have a barometric altimeter which I believe the Garmins have. Ggrrrr0 -
Oh, FYI, it is possible to flag rides as 'odd' & put in an explanation why you think they're odd.FCN 9 || FCN 50

@jds_1981: want to share how to flag odd rides?
Find Segment page e.g. - http://app.strava.com/segments/708857
If segment of a rider looks odd select the date link of rider/segment
This will take you to a -slightly- different page with rider, but still on same segment
click on 'back to ride' button
click on 'actions' -> 'flag ride'FCN 9 || FCN 50
