Any SCR? Don't know about that but we've identified a few 'rides' by other people that are almost certainly on/in a motorised vehicle.

I "cheated" and used it once in the car and once on the motorbike. But for my own curiosity to see how much actual difference there was. The road route is half a mile longer due to my riding across Bushy Park and not cycling all the way round the Kingston one way system.
The car is of course slower all round. The motorbike is quick, but not much quicker. But the graph is very different, with much more acceleration and braking. Higher peaks, but not much higher average. Not surprisingly 150bhp makes acceleration easier.
As I'm racing myself my aim is to beat my motorbike time, quite easy. And if possible better the moving average, very hard for me at just over 20mph.
I'm not on any segments so it doesn't skew any figures for others.

    Oh this looks like fun.

Hopefully back on the bike on Friday having had an extended lay off in September.

I take it this is really really easy to use?

Yes. Use a GPS device to record your ride, log into Strava and upload your ride. It automatically recognises existing segments so you'll appear on the leaderboard. Just remember to join the Silly Commuter Racer's club.

And we agreed that the next person to register buys the KOMs for this month, free beer at the next Morpeth session.

    You been in NZ? Good?

Yes I was. Very good time indeed. Rugby was a little one sided but really glad I went. I can't wait to go back, going to take a bike with me next time.

Need to get back on the bike now, only done 99 miles in September, not helped the average. Need 600 miles per month for next 3 to make target. Not once broke 600 miles for a month this year yet!

  • Uh-oh - this looks like the work of the devil if ever I saw it. There's a segment that covers the last 2 miles of virtually every route I take. Looks like every ride is going to end with a two mile thrash to try and usurp the current record holder.

    Bring it on!

  • Ouch painful mini off on the way home, was pulling away from a junction went to put some power down only to find I had my foot on the wrong side of the pedal!

Que my ribs smashing down on my stem and only just staying up right in a middle of a junction and my cleat smashing down into the road with such force it smashed in half!!!
  • I am getting truly perplexed by this now.....yesterday's commute home felt like a belter, I was giving it some beans with the warm weather and weight savings I gained from leaving my lock at work. Got a very quick overall time and set a new PB for that return leg (I've setup private segments that cover my ENTIRE route).

Jump forward to his evenings and I was by no means rushing, just a decent pace and got very lucky with one set of lights on a segment I created last week. Check my stats and despite being over 2 minutes "slower" on the overall time compared to yesterday my average speed was up by about .5mph :-)

A nice bonus was smashing my previous best on the Mitcham Common W-Bound segment, Just need to try and replicate that speed in town now on the flatter stretches up there :-)

Argh, put in what I thought would be my fastest time on the way home today, lots of pain at the top, but only third fastest time :(

Nothing electric for segments but 19mph+ for 35 mile commute home. Joined up with a few KWers for laps of the park and was dropped within a mile, and never managed to make it back on. Ended up at the pub with Wrath Rob for a few pints. Cold journey home.

To be fair to the chap i think that segment is foo-bar where coming over the bridge is a 12% decent follow by an 11% ascent? i've not come across it.

+1, interesting the amount of times he breaks the speed limit, his Waterloo Bridge segment is great.....

  • On two podiums now but nowt better than 3rd. I must admit my latest Waterloo Bridge South was assisted pretty heavily by a bus tow so if a few people here think this is unfair ill delete it. No glory in dishonour but fwiw i think a lucky bus tow is fair game.

I agree it's wrong if you're pretending to be on a bicycle. It's obviously a motorbike. Take a look at this done on a motorbike http://app.strava.com/rides/1710105 and compare it to this on a bicycle http://app.strava.com/rides/1799213
The motorbike is much more up and down speed wise as your speed changes so quickly as you accelerate round something then back to normal. The bicycle is much more constant speed. The average is not that different. It makes the motorbike look ridiculous. I'm happy to say I rarely use the motorbike.
Once I've beaten my motorbike time on the bicycle I will delete the motorbike one. The problem I find is the app is making me reluctant to slow down sometimes. I'm getting competitive with myself.

Had a little pop at the luggershall dash title this morning, will have to wait until I get to the office to find out. Silly really my legs were good I could have pushed much harder.

My Garmin died last night so couldn't record any times. I was riding with JZed and fortunately I don't think he's set any segment records so no real damage done. Garmin is fixed now (it was a corrupted FIT file that was preventing it from booting past the "loading maps" screen), all I need is the Power of Full English to course through my legs by home time and I'll be ready to have a crack at the westbound segments.

Had a good ride in, lights were mostly in my favour, clear run onto the big roundabout near work. Thought I may have beaten the time taken when using an engine. Missed it by 30 seconds. Rats.
I was really please as I thought I'd done better and I'd managed it without being silly and pushing my luck or being anti-social. Left other people plenty of room, slowed down for dog walkers and frisky deer.
Problem is I could hardly breathe by the time I got to work. I could try going into the drops and standing up to accelerate quicker. But how much time will I gain? And it will be obvious to all and sundry that I'm trying too hard.
Need to get some MTFU in a bottle.

Week 3 standings as of 10am, only a few hours to go to change the leader board. Don't forget, these are for this week only, not an overall leader board.

    Eastbound:
Chelsea to Parliment:: 1st JZed; 2nd Kevin Shields; 3rd Wrath Rob
Chelsea Bridge to Vauxhaul: 1st Wrath Rob; 2nd Jason Merrique; 3rd jds_1981
Millbank Sprint: 1st Wrath Rob; 2nd JZed; 3rd Jason Merrique
Westminster to Blackfriars: 1st Wrath Rob; 2nd JZed; 3rd Alan Dunlop

weirdly only 3 people have ridden the last segment so I'm not sure that's an accurate reflection.

    Westbound
Blackfriars to Westminster: 1st Will Beresford; 2nd JZed; 3rd Wrath Rob
    Vauxhaul to Albert Bridge1st jds_1981; 2nd JZed; 3rd Scotster

    All to play for tonight!

Fairly addictive even on my Northbound commute, along the A23. Some times I have no chance of beating. I am now uploading to Connect, Endmondo and Strava!! all for different reasons

Having switched to bike 2 at the beginning of the week I have realised my back brake has been on the whole time

Not that i'd have been in the top 3 anyway. Can you retro-adjust the power levels for friction losses?

BTW bike2 is a flouro-yellow steel Colnago in CX guise if anyone's looking.
Oh, and i'm wearing vintage shoes and toe-clips too which has been scary.

 These all seem very selective:

What about the segment from Blackfriars to the end of the NKR - a 6 mile segment - so consistent speed?

Vauxhall to Chelsea Bridge (1 mile): 1st JZed, 2nd Chirs Gesty, 3rd Wrath Rob

    Chelsea Embankment Dragstrip (3 miles) 1st jds_1981, 2nd: JZed, 3rd Wrath Rob

    VB-AB (2 miles): 1st jds_1981, 2nd JZed, 3rd Scotster.

Its a shame you can't run reports out of Strava segement down the left, screr across the top, best time for the week, month.

Yeah, that would be a nice feature. Do us all a favour and post up the segment links, you know its a nightmare trying to search for them!
