  • that link doesnt work for me, must be their recent association with Garmin rubbing off

Try a modern browser, Granddad.

Seems to work on iPad fine, not Firefox on the Mac though.

I guess that London quite apart from its sheer size had a higher % of strava users for commuters etc. I log rides and frankly it's pootling short distances though Bushy Park.

not much KOM hunting this year been trying to keep a higher pace for all my commuting, however Monday I had a go at an old favourite sprint of mine, quiet road, flat, head down and give it some beans ! Now have it but will not keep it for long I suspect.

Nice one! It doesn't need to stand for long - cos it is yours for the moment.

Funnily - your commute is within a couple of hundred metres the same length as my winter commute (ok it has 4 times the climbing); your time yesterday is about a minute quicker than my best time - but the elapsed time is over twelve minutes less. All that time I spend at traffic lights and in jams. I do love London but sometimes I just despair ~22 minutes a day stationary on my bike compared to a minute or so for you

Yep traffic lights are pain, it's pretty much free running till I get into the city same coming back 3 and a bit miles of stop start and then after burners :-)
  • Woke up to an uh-oh email. Checked the ride in question - 45mph into that headwind last night? Don't think so. Someone had clearly bailed somewhere in Hammersmith and got a cab home. Seemed to have been flagged already though.

    Dragging this one up again.

I'm not registered with Strava, but get the segment stuff on Garmin Connect. Suits me fine, but I get the impression there is a lag between me uploading from my device and the segment stuff being updated - Currently, despite uploading everything up to xmas, my best times are coming from October/November, and I know I've put in better since then, in fact I can prove I have.

    Or is it just me...?

  • GarminConnect's segment processing is notoriously slow (and hit and miss) - sometimes taking weeks if not months to process. There is also a conjecture that it will only process activities completed in the week (or so) prior to upload. So if you uploaded activities completed Dec 1- Dec 24 on Dec 24, then only those completed in the window 17-24 December will be processed (the others may be at a later date but don't bet your life on it)

I don't normally get annoyed when someone takes a KOM off me, but come on - how am I supposed to compete with Olympic gold medallists?

So, it being January, I was just wondering why I haven't had any 2016 KOM notifications or similar - did they give up on the whole yearly leaderboard thing, or am I just increasingly fat and slow?

I had similar - I was (after a lot of sweat expended) up to 2nd on a microsegment by 1s... then the Tour of Britain came though and I was suddenly around 75th - still only 4s off the KOM though. Still how slow were they that a 45yo unfit lard ass like me can get within 4s of them over 170 yards? :D

Does anyone know if you can use strava segment using garmin without making all your rides public? I want to use the segment stuff, but I don't want all my start and stop places made public if I can help it! Ta

You can mark your ride as private- that should work!

Or you could just make your whole profile private so only people you've accepted can see your rides.

If a ride is private, Garmin won't use it. I dot know if its the same with strava?

You can hide the exact start and finish of commutes in your profile settings. It blurs out details a certain distance from home / office IIRC. Click your avatar in Top RHCorner, then under Settings, then Privacy.

Looks like it was a Strava tastic weekend for most people PB's all over the place.

Did sub-7 after a couple of pints yesterday. Legs not feeling it at the moment though, was only 30s quicker before the beers Sunday roast...

Great extension - damn I was slow this morning into that horrible headwind. Felt as strong as any last year - and then it started raining

    Here's one I made ( much ) earlier.

I created this one for a laugh, I can't believe someone actually went to the trouble of trying to beat my K.O.M. But it would explain why I keep seeing cyclists doing laps of the stadium perimeter, for no discernible reason of late, I bet they'd love it over there if someone tried it on a match day

Oddly, no one has bothered going for this one yet.

    https://www.strava.com/segments/9999443

Still, if anyone tried it, I'd probably give them the proverbial 'Kudos'

Just perusing my performance from this morning of the Millbank northbound segment, I notice KOM was done at an avg of 48mph. Going into the "analysis" of that ride, his average is shown as 22.1mph and his speed track is continuously 22-23 mph. Also, his whole ride has a max of 25 mph. So clearly that KOM is nonsense. So I Flag it giving the above as reasons, and get an instant response saying something along the lines of "a ride that has already been resolved cannot be flagged". I guess that one's permanently contaminated, then.

Yeh, most of the shorter ones are like that, smart recording and such means many are just farcical.

I may give Queens Road a bash later ;)
