The Canyon bikes thread

I'm 6ft 1 so had to go for the large although the website said medium. Plenty of reports say sizing is on the small size though. Also chose the raw - couldn't bring myself to get the red - way too blingy for me.0
-
Got the red,not as bling as it looks! I'm 5ft 9 and they recommends small, spent days trying to make a decision but in the end got a medium and it's fine,at first looked a bit big but that's only bec of the travel on the forks compared to my gt,once I rode it I knew I got it right, dropper post is great!0
-
How have you found the finishing kit? I've heard the grips and saddle get changed quite soon after arriving and also the tyres can be a bit draggy. I'd like to get mine how I like it pretty quickly as I've got my 40th birthday weekend next week in Keswick.0
-
Grips seem fine but will see after few rides, got a charge spoon saddle on my gt and will maybe get the same for the canyon but because it's my first full suspension bike it felt so much softer so will see! Tyres looks absolutely massive to me but once I rode it they just seems to float over everything, not sure there ideal for everything if its your only bike, going put semi slicks on my gt for canal paths etc! I'm 43 so as long as it rides ok then great!Just been looking for a long weekend near whinnlatter for next month, pretty sure your bike will be with you early next week so enjoy your fortieth birthday!!0
-
Cheers 40ish, can't wait. Really hope the new bike arrives in time. I've looked at hiring bikes otherwise and there's some good ones available that weekend but would've so much better if I could take my spectral.
Whinlatter is brilliant, just love the place more and more every time I go back.0 -
Don't think you will have to hire a bike yours will be with you before you go,never been whinlatter so can't wait, just a quick bit of advice my chain snapped after 5mins,prob just a freak, comes with guarantee but I just put in a link and carried on!0

My Spectral Al 9 SL arrived yesterday, 2 weeks ahead of schedule. I'll be building it today whilst mostly admiring the quality and cleanliness. It will never look this clean again!0

Anyone know if the standard conti mountain king II tyres you get on a spectral are wire bead or foldable? I've got a hatred of wire beaded tyres so will order new ones to swap straight onto my new bike as soon as it arrives if need be0

Canyon normally supply race sport varieties on their better bikes and only supply the normal Contis on their cheapest bike. The race sport ones are both folding and use the great black chilli compound rubber. Standard Contis are terrible and black chilli are awesome in my humble opinion... I would expect the spectral would be race sport but check the web. It should say which they are.0 -
My Spectral 6.0 came with ProTection Mountain King II 2.4 tires. They're great.0
-
They come with Conti MK2 2.4 folding black chilli protection, basically the good ones0
-
Cheers. Really cant wait for this bike now, cant see any negatives about it. Never rode a canyon before. My last bike was an On One carbon 456 which was absolutely superb but just felt a change to FS was needed.0
-
Took mine out for a quick blast today and first thoughts were like many others that the 'cockpit' felt small. I've tinkered around and made it feel more comfortable and now looking forward to its first real test on Wednesday. One thing I would say is that it felt as smooth as a babies arse when riding the few test miles I did.0
-
Well my Spectral is now 95% converted and i tock her out for her second run today on Whites Level at Afan.
She climbed and handled amazingly well and I cant wait to really let her lose on the rough stuff.
Tyre wise ive ditched the Mavic ones that came with the Enduro wheels and used the Conti Mountain Kings II from Canyon and gotta say it made a huge difference. Ive been a fan of the Conti Black Chilli for a while now and the 2.4 Mountain Kings suited the Spectral perfectly imho.0 -
Hi this is my first post :P I have a spectral 9.0 EX and love it it's great . But don't seem to be able to get full travel from my monarch plus RC3 rear shock . It's about 10ml short and have it at 30% sag and have even tried more than 30% just to see if i could get more but no different . Any one else have this problem with there 9.0 EX ?0

Have mine set at 25% sag and getting full travel when switch set to minimum compression - only just reaching full travel when landing off jumps & drops0 -
Mmmmm will give it another couple of weeks and see if it beds in anymore . Got a lot of riding planned for the next three weeks (Fort William,The enduro world series tracks at Glentress and a trip to the Lake District) If iam not getting full travel after that there's definitely something wrong Cheers .0

Have you measured how much shock stroke you're using? the Fox shock on mine leaves about 5mm of the shaft unused but it's still using 51mm stroke.0

Well, replacement Spectral ordered. Got the order in last week just before the estimated delivery date changed from mid June to end of July
My eta is week 25 so hopefully not too long, but not counting chickens yet given experience. Now I have a Stumpjumper and a for parts Spectral to sell.
Had no hesitation getting another one as such an awesome bike for the money.2015 Nukeproof Mega TR 275 in raw0 -

Anyone converted the DT Swiss One Spline wheels to tubeless? What is required?
They arrived with valves and I have ordered Stan's Sealant.
Anything else needed? i.e. Is the tape already tubeless variety?
Cheers,
RichRich0 -
Will check tonight but pretty sure the DT Swiss wheels are not tubless ready (i mean properly tubless ready and not the bullshit the manafactures say). Youll need some form of tubless rim tape and some fluid, stans is my preferred.
Ill check tonight and confirm (wheels are sat on the bench with no tyres so will take 30 sec to check).

They are tubeless ready. The tape that is on them seals the rim so you just need to remove the inner tube, fit the valve, pour in the stans fluid and pump them up. Dead easy0

Had my Spectral al 9.0 ex two weeks ago and it is just an amazing bike in every aspect! With the Sram roam 50 rims and Conti Mountain King II/Trail king tyres tried to go tubeless, but I do not know what I am doing wrong, the pressures just do not stay in. I pured some Stan's sealant in, but still no help, all the sealant just leaked out between the rim and the tire. With UST rims and tyres should be "dead easy" I guess, but I do not know how should I do this. Any ideas? Seems that I just cannot get proper contact with the rim and the tyres when putting pressure in. Haven't tried this before though, so perhaps there is an easy solution to this?0

I've got the DT XM 1501 rims so will be a bit different to the Roam 50 but both should work. To be honest the conti MK2 didn't go up as quite as easy as the Schwalbe Magic Mary I put on the front which practically seated without pumping up and my MK2 did bubble slightly for about an hour between the tyre bead and the rim. I know of others who have struggled going tubeless with conti tyres so I followed their instructions in their youtube vids (see below) and scrubbed the tyres to clean them and made sure the rims were clean then rubbed stans fluid on the inside of the tyre and bead and the rim hook before pouring in 2 cups of stans and inflating to 45psi to seat them. After giving them a good shake put the wheel horizontal on a bucket for an hour each side to let the stans seal the tyre.
