Emailed Canyon about the scratches. Prompt response and resolved to my satisfaction. Upshot a bit to spend on their website. As I need a few things all fine and dandy. Scratches are going to happen and a bit of copter tape and mud will make them invisible anyway.

Have to say, delay aside I have been very impressed with the service I have received.

Couple more photos of the 9.9. Only managed 1 ride so far but I love it! Dropped the tyre pressure and it feels much better, also swapped the saddle for my trusty gobi!

Please excuse the poor quality phone photos!

How are delivery times looking at the moment? I'm sending payment for my Spectral on Wednesday and wondering how long it will take. Hopefully within a week if possible! Can you pay extra for quicker delivery - also does anyone know if you can pay by bank transfer instead of credit card?

First ride out on the Spectral on Monday morning. Was loving it. Was getting up the hills quicker than my Stumpy. Really taking to the bike. Then turned into cycle path on cut through a park and did not see the little yellow security post in the middle of the path until too late. Wham.

I now have 3 chunks out of my fork, and a dent in my down tube. To say I am gutted is an understatement. The dent has quite a deep scratch in it so very nervous about it now. After initial panic contacted insurer so might just order a replacement and sell the bike for spares as should be able to make up the short fall in insurance.

Have tried to upload a pic. Not sure if worked but what are thoughts on the dent. Is it terminal? .

Oh no Rob! Might be worth giving Canyon a ring and see what they can do as I know they offer crash replacement for the frame for a reduced cost. http://www.canyon.com/_en/service/crashreplacement.htm

Have emailed them to see what they might do on a new bike. Had a voucher for some minor scratches on this one (the irony) and I had seen the frame replacement prices, but insurers have come through with a large chunk of cost, and am hoping that if I flogged parts from this one I might recoup most of the balance I have to pay.

The problem with a straight frame swap is that the fork is also banged up. I don't know whether it is structurally effected but don't want to take the chance.

    So so gutted...

At least your ok and let's hope canyon sort you out a large discount after making you wait 3 months!
After fixing the chain Found the bike fantastic and couldn't believe the difference the bigger wheels made! I actually felt fast!! Cannock next week!

Hope my spectral is out for delivery soon. Had the 'bike is being assembled in the next 48 hours then will be dispatched' email 3 days ago. Desperately need it for next Friday. Whinlatter calls!
  • Recieved the lovely email saying my Spectral was being assembled last friday and then another saying it was posted on the same day :). UPS tracking originally gave a delivery day of wednesday (was a bank holiday weekend) and shockingly turned up a day early on Tuesday :P

So on with assembly stage 1... Get her built in standard trim.

    IMG_20140527_191343.jpg

A quick spin around the garden and my concerns about sizing started to rise. It is definitely on the small size for a medium. Measured against my other bikes the top tube is around 2 - 3 cm shorter. Thankfully in my haste i hadnt really set it up properly for myself, so with some tweaking i managed to get to a comfortable setup.

    Onto operation Bling the Spectral!

Last night got the forks, wheels and seat swapped out for a pair of Mavic Enduro wheels, set of Rockshox Pikes and a SDG Bel Air seat.

    IMG_20140528_211251.jpg

    IMHO she now looks awesome.

Next stage is swap the brakes for Shimano XT, grips for Superstar ones (standard ones are terrible along with the seat) and add the side loading bottle cage :)

Cant wait to get her out on the trails over the weekend.

    Steve

PS Why have i changed so much ?! Why not!! I like to get my bikes the exact way i want them. Cost wise by the time i sell the forks, wheels and brakes as brand new parts the overall cost will still be a great value bike but also to my exact liking :)

That looks amazing meenie, those wheels are just stunning.

You've given me a bit of hope that mine will arrive before next Thursday now though! Just wish they'd take my payment so I know things are moving along.

Brakes and shifters seem at an odd angle.

    Around 5ft 11 (6ft on a good day).

Cheers. I think the medium should be perfect me at 5ft 8 or 5ft 9 on a good day :D

I'm due to receive it today but at work all day, I will be rushing home that's for sure!

Nice upgrades, Green Meanie, your wheels look great against the black frame. I also went down the 'immediate upgrade' route - Pikes, Renthal bar and 50mm stem combo, and a Bel Air saddle from my old Stumpjumper. The grips will probably have to go soon as well but I haven't decided what to replace them with.
I am 6' and chose the Large frame which I am very happy with. Prior to ordering I spent a while checking all the geometry sizes against my old bike and realised that if I got the 50mm stem then it was going to make it very, very short. The large with a shorter than standard stem gives me just the right stretch for climbing (and this thing can really climb!) but enough room when in 'attack mode'. Of course, the dropper post really helps here.
And if anyone is undecided about whether to change their Fox forks for a set of Pikes, then all I'd say is do it, they're amazing, so much better than the Fox 32's.

Just a note on swapping the forks from the 140 Fox 32, I asked Canyon what is the maximum axle to crown fork length and which Pike the frame can take based on the 9.0 EX coming with a 150 Rev and the Canyon Enduro team using 160 Fox 34's and the reply was if you fit a 150 Pike it will void the warranty.

Green Meenie - Can't believe you've swapped out the DT wheels, they are flippin amazing. Yellow Mavics do look great though.

I'm loving my Spectral 8.0, the more I ride it the more I like it. Been changing the sag and currently at 27% F&R which feels great and still controlled although need to watch for pedal strikes, will try 30% sag next time I'm out in the wilds. It really is a weapon when you let the brakes off and take a brave pill and the wheels are holding up to the abuse although I'll be gutted when I do wreck them as doubt I'll replace them with something as nice. I've swapped the bars and stem to a 780 Renthal Fatbar and 50mm stem off my hardtail and do prefer it to the 740 bar and 60mm stem that came on it so will be getting some suitably stealth bits as the gold Renthals look out of place. Also I've persevered with the ergon saddle but my bum really doesn't like it so I'll be getting a Specialized Henge as I know my cheeks like a spesh

TBH this does suprise me as the 9.0 EX comes with 150 Revs and cant see how the 150 Pikes can be that much different? The EX 9.0 wouldnt be using a different frame... Very odd.

Yep it does seem like they will only honour the warranty with kit that originally comes on the bikes, the a2c of the 150 Rev is 539mm and the 150 Pike is 542 so there is a very small difference but I guess if they haven't officially tested the frame with the stiffer Pike they can't guarantee it. The a2c of the 160 Fox 34 is 555mm so that's longer again (and longer than the 160 Pike).

Worth bearing in mind if there was ever a fault with the frame although I very much doubt a 150 or even 160 Pike would cause a problem as I'm pretty sure they take a lot more abuse during an EWS weekend than most people give their bikes in its life.

Also have a look at this http://enduro-mtb.com/magazin/viewer/?issue=010 The Spectral is the fastest bike in the world...with a 160 Fox 34
