    More Canyon disappointment -

2 emails in the same day.
Email 1 - your bike is due to ship this week - you will get an email from UPS with the shipping details.

Email 2 - Unfortunately we have to inform you of a delay to your order for the Spectral AL 7.9.

Our factory in Germany is experiencing some significant capacity issues at the moment due to a much higher than expected order volume, which combined with the Easter break has lead to a number of orders being delayed.

We understand that this causes frustration all round, and that you may have been in contact with our team in the UK this week who have previous told you that your order would ship.

To give you an insight into how this process works, at the end of Thursday each week we receive a list through from Canyon Germany of all delayed orders. We then use a mass email tool to inform everyone on that list as soon as possible which may explain the impersonal tone.

At this stage the most up to date information we have is that your order has been delayed by 2 weeks and will ship in Week 19 (w/c May 5th).

Once again our apologies for the delay.

Its a real shame this company can't sort itself out. No matter what i won't be placing an order with them again unless the bike i want is in stock. Even then i would seriously consider other bikes first.

Any potential buyers out there please be aware of their ability to satisfy.

    When did you order?

    I have a spectral 9.9ex on order.

I ordered mine at the end of January with shipping date of week 18. I'll be disappointed if I get the same email, I find it hard to understand how they can blame a recent increase in orders when these bikes have been on order for a long time?!

I too spoke to Canyon UK on Tuesday and was told that according to their system mine is on track to be delivered next week. I appreciate that delays do happen but to be told on the week that it is being delivered is unacceptable! I'm sure they would know before that week?

I don't buy that high volume/Easter break either. It is not like Easter is a surprise. They should be able to give delivery estimates to take it into account.

High order volumes are more believable, but in many cases these orders were placed months ago, and they should be able to satisfy those orders. Last minute delay notifications suggest other problems.

I had heard they were having trouble with the red Spectrals. Something to do with the paint, but that is obviously not going to effect all orders.

If my bike gets pushed back beyond week 21 (already delayed from wk 13) I will be cancelling. It takes less time to buy a car from a factory order!

I don't know if I will feel any different come June but when I ordered my Spectral 8 I pretty much expected it to be delayed. Most of the people in this thread ordering the popular models seem to be getting delays so I sort of built it into my reasoning.

probably a silly question but surely canyon make a few of each model to have as ready stock and sell when someone orders or are all bikes built to order ?

as having a few 500 or whatever built up ready to go would make shipping orders quicker ?

The Spectral 6.0 in chrome red.

Originally ordered in end Feb/beginning March with week 13 eta. That was put back to week 21 - the week beginning 19th May (just the 2 months!).

On their delivery estimates the Spectral 6.0 is showing as week 21 delivery, so I am a bit nervous that a bike I ordered 2 months ago has the same delivery date as an order that might be placed now. That suggests they have not had any in yet, so hopefully it won't get delayed further.

  • I'm sure the bikes will be well worth the wait. Especially at those direct sale prices.

They build them in batches, as I was lead to believe. So in CW 10 for example they do bike X, CW11 bike Y, etc. this is how delays arise as they won't necessarily sit on a massive stockpile of parts. If all bike X has a rear shock that is delayed from their supplier it screws them up, but they don't know until the last minute as their business model relies on "just in time" deliveries from their supply chain (as just sitting on loads of stock parts would destroy a conpany's cash flow).

Well i ordered my Spectral 7.9 XL on the 8th November!

I have sent some choicely worded emails back and jumped up and down saying really whats been said above.

I got an email today, another automated one, no response from my email however.

The email said that my order is being readied for dispatch in the next 48 hours.

I don't think i will place any hope or trust in this new email.

Yes the bikes are great value but some manufacturers are unveiling their 2015 models and canyon can't deliver their 2014 ones yet.

The super value won't get them repeat customers, if you want a bike now why would you order from a company who can't deliver for 6 months.

    Another email

This time at 0505 hours this morning.

It has a UPS tracking number and apparently my bike left their factory yesterday and is on the way.

Still no official reply to my emails to their customer service. My advice to anyone waiting with a delay is to jump up and down and get some action for yourselves.

My original date for delivery was week 13 and so it is already 5 weeks late.

Many models (hence many customers) on the Canyon website are in stock or available within a few weeks, certainly just before the cycling season starts. If a batch sells out the website says sold out. In that case someone would have to order a 2015 model in the Autumn.
I've noticed that the most expensive variants, made in the smallest volumes, do tend to be the bikes that sell out early. For example, the Spectral AL 9.9 EX size XL are not available to order any more.
I ordered a humble Nerve 7.9 29er at the beginning of last April. A new model at the time. It arrived 2 weeks later. Didn't need to send a single follow up email or speak to a living sole !

Thought I should balance this out a little, we have 3 Canyons in our house, so yep a repeat buyer!

First Canyon is Nerve 8w for the OH, we struggled as ive said before to find her a bike that fitted just right, due her being a shorter than short arse, saw canyon had a fit guide so we filled it in and the recommendation was XS and to email them. At the first email they offered a shorter stem, change the bars and offer to fit a 100mm fork instead of the 120mm as standard as this would help with the bike fit. We replied and took all except the lower fork, they replied that if after getting the bike if it was too big they would do a fork swap no issues.

The bike while this was going on was ordered as hers, once we sorted the sizing the bike took 2 weeks from placing order to received the bike at home, couldn't fault it.

Second Canyon is my Roadie a Roadlite SL, again this was in stock and I got the bike within 10 days, amazing service. Quicker than my LBS in getting me a road bike they wanted me to wait 4 weeks for a certain well known brand!

Third canyon is my latest Grand Canyon which again came on time, this was schedule for week 16, I ordered in week 10. I did see that the week number kept changing on the website for availability, and I sent a few emails all replies told me my bike was secure and no need to worry, I would of had the bike Good Friday if it wasn't a bank holiday!!

I understand some peoples issues with the Spectral but its a new bike for canyon and they have had paint issues, supply issues etc..if it was speshi or trek they would of just not allowed us to buy them in the UK and we would of had to wait for the next years models, at least they are trying to satisfy the customers they have. They keep the prices low to be successful and its how they operate, I understand this and will be buying another bike next year, hopefully a Spectral I really don't mind ordering in Nov and waiting till june, I have other bikes to play on!

Don't want to rub salt into anyone's wounds but am really loving my Spectral so far. It's so much more efficient than my old Giant on the climbs and I'm definitely faster on the descents and I'm a pretty nervous rider so shows it's definitely giving me confidence. I know the whole 650b wheel size thing is shrouded in controversy but have to say I personally am really noticing a difference, particularly on the climbs as I'm making it up steep, technical climbs that I couldn't before. The ordering/delivery process is definitely frustrating. I so nearly cancelled my order and now am so glad I didn't! Once again, I was told by the uk canyon hq my bike would be delayed for another 2 weeks and then it was here 2 days later, so it's not always as bad as it seems. Hope you all get yours earlier rather than later!

Glad you like your bike kate,

So after my two ranting emails to canyon, without any kind of response from them my bike was sent within a day. It turns up tomorrow and i know will be worth the wait.

Strange how they found one lying around to send me, hope i didn't delay someone else who was happier to put up with delay after delay.

I took my Spectral 8.0 to Afan and Bike Park Wales at the weekend and it was totally amazeballs. Had already done a couple of laps of Llandegla to make sure it was set up ok and get my eye in resulting in about 200 PB's and face ache from grinning like an idiot. It was brilliant at the weekend, climbs really well and is an absolute weapon coming back down and sucked up all of my crap riding. It's getting quite a bit of attention too which is nice :D

Anyone who had a delayed order were you offered the free shorts and glasses set? Just had an order come through for mine which is worth 170 quid. Makes up a little for the 2 month delay

I've taken my new nerve 9.0 up there ( llandegla ) a good few times now and think I've broke all my pb's :D not gone flat out on the full lap yet though. It climbs like a dream and takes all the hits that my old 140ml travel did as well

Thought it was about time I posted an update about my Canyon. Had it a couple of months now and covered around 150 miles, trouble free riding, one puncture, few upgrades, DMR Vault pedals in white, Madison flux saddle and some new Ergon GE1 grips.

Last weekend did the Wiggle ups and downs Epic 32 mile ride, which was awesome, wet and muddy which meant the bike ended up like this

But soon nice and clean again

    Hi guys and gals,

So I've been a lurker for a while and read through a lot of this thread as I'm really tempted by a Canyon bike (the What MTB tboty giving the Spectral 3rd cemented my interest).

So really what I want to ask is Nerve AL 6.0 or Spectral AL 6.0? I can stretch to the extra expense of the spectral but is it worth it? And is the Nerve 8.0 that much better than the Nerve 6.0 (I've read lots of negative comments about the fox shocks and the 6.0 comes with the RS Reba, is there any truth to these?)

I've currently got a Marin 29er hardtail and tend to ride mostly trail centres (Bedgebury and Swinley) and have a trip to Wales planned at the end of May (and no, I have no illusions that I'd get the bike for that :P). I'm interested in getting into Enduro Gravity racing so was looking for something suitable for that but just can't decide which bike would be more suitable..

Any help in deciding would be very helpful! :)

    Hi there,

So my spectral arrived Tuesday, spent the rest of the day putting bit together. It's the AL 7.9 29er XL. It's massive but fits perfectly and I'm 200cm 97kg.

In blue it looks awesome, I have put the wide trail XT pedals on, some blue lizard skin Peaty grips, used the Stans XC 29 er kit to go tubeless. In the front shock I'm riding 130psi, rear is at 250psi.

I'm chuffed to bits but should never have had to wait do long for it.

The manual says that it's designed for xc and singletrack with occasional bike park use with sporadic jumps not exceeding 60cm. It's therefor not the enduro style Bike people may think it is.

My mate has a nerve AL+ with 150mm travel so consider your usage before buying.

Spectral a still have a long wait time so if you want a bike now your choice may be already made for you.

They don't do the Nerve AL+ any more do they? I contacted them about the max travel they would recommend on the Nerve and they said not to go above 120mm.. Hmm.

    Neal_ Posts: 477
All their bikes from 100mm hardtail to 140mm Spectral (and the Nerve AL+ it replaces) come under the above category 3, 160mm Strive & 180mm Torque EX are category 4 but still states " Regular, moderate jumps pose no problem for experienced riders when using these bikes. Extended and regular use in bike parks and when tackling “North Shore” sections should be avoided. ". Only the 210mm Torque DHX is category 5. IMO it's Canyon covering their arse and I don't see how you can specify what size jumps you can do as there are so many varying factors, the Spectral can take plenty of abuse.

Free stuff - my bike was delayed a few times and I got a pretty decent sweetener, I am more than happy with how Canyon deal with their customers

I'd definitely got for the Spectral over the Nerve if you're planning on doing some gravity enduro stuff purely based on the geometry, slacker and longer is better.

What sweetener did you get out of them Neal and how did you get it? I ordered an 'in stock' Nerve AL 7.9 over a month ago and it's still not been dispatched. They were saying (and are still saying) 5-7 days dispatch for 'in stock' bikes due to high orders. I wish! Two weeks ago I got the 'delayed' email like others on this thread saying it would be dispatched the following week. Nothing since.

I've tried sending emails to the UK customer service, they admit it's 'unacceptable' but don't offer me anything. No effort to speed things up, no offer of faster delivery service and no offer of any 'sweetners'. All amazingly shoddy, and looking at old threads it seems to happen every year. Wish I'd read the threads before ordering with them!

So how do I get anything out of them to make up for it?
