If you have the clearance you could try some Hans dampf tyres ?
They do fit. I've got a one on the front of my Nerve 7.9 in the sticky trailstar compound. I've seen pictures of one on the back and it's a tight fit but workable.
On the back though you want a narrower tyre in a UK winter if you ride mud. Specialist mud tyres are narrow.
OK, found this picture. The Hans Dampf 2.35 actually blows up to a monstrous 61mm/ 2.5" according to my callipers. The frame is going to get rubbed to much for back wheel use.

Are you running those tubeless?
I put a 2.25" Nobby Nic on my Crossrides with a Stans kit - 40psi and 20 minutes later they blow off the front rim (royaly buckling it in the process!). Mavis said they are only rated to 2.25 and should only be used with a Mavic tubeless strip (not that you can get them with any ease). Bought new pair of Crossrides for £120 from someone who had taken then straight off their Nerve.Remember Rule #50 -
TheFatHawaiian wrote:Hi all, I've been deliberating for months now on my new bike and finally decided on the Spectral AL. Just a bit nervous on sizing. The PPS is telling me I'm a medium but I pretty much at the top of the scale for the medium size I think. Just wondering if anyone of similar height etc has bought one and what size they went for.....
height=6ft/183cm
inseam=33in/84cm
I know I could send the bike back but in this ideal world we live in I'd rather get it right first time
Thanks
I am exactly the same size as you and have ordered a Spectral al 9.0ex in Large. The sizing suggested medium but looking at the frame measurements and comparing them with my current bike large was closer. Also note the Pinkbike review of the medium said it was a bit cramped compared with other brands mediums.
Hope this helps0 -
Thanks. I phoned up the UK service desk and they've also suggested a large.

HI
Need a bit of advise please, I am about to buy nerve+8 se but cant decide what size . I am 5foot11and 1 half inches tall with an inside leg of 34.5 inches and although the canyon pps system says medium i am not sure. A am thinking large might be right for me but don't know which to go for and its stopping be hitting the buy button. As side note my current bike is a 19 inch specialized rockhopper and the seatpost is almost fully extended ..0 -

Ordered this Canyon a few weeks ago, but I'm now questioning my decision as I have seen a lot of people on here question The Fox 32 forks, especially the flex. Will be used for AM, trail, Yorkshire Dales.
Should i be worried?

Looks great! Is that the Nerve 7.0? Am seriously considering it as a replacement for an 09 stumpy that is, if I am honest a tad too big.
So, are you pleased with it and can you recommend it?2015 Nukeproof Mega TR 275 in raw0 -

Hi all. Think I have settled on the Nerve AL 7.0. But found myself looking at the Spectral. Could only run to the Spectral AL 6.0 at a push, but wondering whether it is to much bike for my needs. Love the look of the red and like the sound of 140mm travel.
The Spectral is 1 kilogram more than the Nerve, and just under 30lbs. Am I going to feel that on the hills. Also wonder if 140mm is overkill for my needs or am I future proofing and buying a more versatile all rounder than the Nerve. My riding consists mainly of trails and xc riding over south downs, box hill/leith hill area. Not massively technical but not that I will never do that. Wont be bombing down any mountains though. All thoughts welcome before I pull the trigger on a Nerve as the Spectral seems to be the more popular of the two and trying to understand why!2015 Nukeproof Mega TR 275 in raw0 -

I think the nerve will suit the riding u do better, 120mm travel will be enough. Will also do trail or am when u need it to no problems, spectral would be overkill IMO. It's the Nerve al 7.9 as it's a 29er. Been out on it today and all I can say is I love it! My first full sus and 29er, normally ride a 2006 Kona Cindercone, so this is a massive upgrade for me.
I went for this model as I mainly ride long distance xc which is why I went for the Nerve being 110mm travel, didn't see the point in going for the spectral with more travel and the 29" wheels should be great over long distances.
Would I reccommend it, hell yes, great spec, build quality and I think it looks great!Canyon Nerve Al 7.90 -

Just a trail center ( llandegla ) and it coped brilliantly with everything my old commencal meta 140mm travel did, and climbed a hell of a lot better. So quite comfortable that it will handle most of what north wales has to offer, bar down hill centers .0 -
Cheers for the comments, and just what I wanted to hear seeing as the Spectral is a bit over budget.
Think, at the moment at least the Nerve AL 7.0 is the one for me. Have to say my old bike was 120mm and can't ever recall needing more, so sticking with it.

Bit of a long shot - has anyone here got or is looking at the new Torque DHX? The usual Canyon good value for money point aside, this does look like a very good piece of kit for uplift days."I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0

So my new nerve should be here in a few weeks now. Would anyone that has already received there's be kind enough to post some pics? I've seen some of the 29er nerves in pics but non of the 650b nerves. I0

The bridleways and tracks I ride in South Somerset have been so wet recently that I've stuck to country lanes. Thought I'd try lower drag cyclocross tyres. The continental 35c race ones aren't to expensive. They still have a tread to deal with all the debris in the lanes. It's pretty hilly where I live and the sides of the tarmac is being washed away coating the lanes in stones.

also fitted some heavy duty inner tubes

It may look a bit strange with skinny tyres but it works very well with the suspension locked out and SPD pedals fitted. Much quicker than my old non-suspension Marin Rocky Ridge 26" with 42c road tyres and 3Kg less weight !

Has anyone managed to get a bottle cage to fit the new nerve yet? Ordered the cage and bottle with bike and would have to saw the bottle in half to get it to fit
Ps not a major problem as everything else was spot on , but if anyone finds one to fit please post up0 -

I've ordered a side loader bottle cage, which should work with a small bottle, hopefully.
Will post some pics once I get it fitted.Canyon Nerve Al 7.90 -

Right, having decided to go with the Nerve Al 7 last night I have spent all day looking at the Spectral Al 6.0 thinking ooh it is only an extra £200...so that is £100 per 10mm
Head says 120mm is plenty. However, having currently got a 120mm bike the temptation of a bit more travel is proving to hard to resist (especially as I have just hit 40 and the mid life crisis red chrome finish looks lurvely)...but reckon might look a bit of a plum round my way on a 140mm bike.
Trying to engage brain a bit again, I have looked at the geometry of both the Nerve and the Spectral compared to my existing bike... To find it sits in between the two!
One thing I have noticed with the Nerve is that it has a steep head angle and fairly short wheelbase. Is this likely to make it a bit skittish going down hill quickly. I have had the long wheel base of a large Stumpjumper which does feel nice and stable going down, albeit with a head angle of 68.5 degrees. The Spectral is going to be nearer the wheelbase but shorter in in the cockpit which is exactly what I want.
However, what is it going to be like going up hills? This is my biggest concern.
And is there any obvious spec weaknesses when comparing the Nerve 7 against the Spectral 6?2015 Nukeproof Mega TR 275 in raw0
