If you do order the XL I'm sure I've read that they will fit a shorter stem for you, don't buy an extra one
As for wheels, they are more XC than AM/Enduro.
When I bought my bike I didn't even consider the Strive, I didn't really understand the differences a few months ago.
So you think, that the 420 mm in combination with L sized Strive with 3 mm shorter seat tube than yours will be enough for me with longer legs for optimal seat position (nearly stretched legs)?0 -

Honestly, it's impossible for me to say. I was in the same position as you are and just had to have a 'best guess'.
In theory it should be OK but without sitting on the bike and going for a ride you'll never know :P0 -
My roadie arrived today on schedule, and the fit was perfect, must admit was abit nervous as the sizing came up xs, but tbh its spot on, i reckon im at the limit but im not growing anymore so it will see me through. Canyon as before came up trumps, right bike all ready to ride once i fitted the wheels and handle bars job done.0

Awesome, glad to hear it. Still nothing for me in terms of correspondence. I am an impatient bugger so am getting frustrated, but in fairness they are still well within their window. I can only complain once Thursday comes and goes.

Confirmation now received! They say delivery is week, but I suspect that will be a tall order. Next week is just fine. Excited!0 -
With regards the sizing guide that Canyon provide, don't take it as gospel and make your own calculations too. I'm 5ft 9 and every dimension I entered equated to a medium sized frame. I felt I was between sizes (Medium & Large) so in the end opted for the large which seems to fit just fine.0

Did you get the classic colour scheme for the Yellowstone or did you go for the orange. When I looked it was just orange left mostly. Not sure what to make of the colour.0 -

Was so tempted by the orange, it looks kinda cool, but I was just not sure. Went classic in the end. My wife thought I was boring. Maybe that confirmed my decision Both were in stock when I ordered.0 -
tudj wrote:gavstorie wrote:Yeah, I had a look but I think the weight is prohibitive.. Its a good few KG heavier than the Strive/Nerve and its only a single ring on the front.. I would struggle to get that up a hill :-)
Fair point about the weight although I know people with trail bikes that weigh 2-3kg more than my AL+ That Torque I linked is dual ring up front.
I have the Torque EX Alpinist and it came with a dual chainring set up. However it pedalled uphill so well that I didn't need the granny ring, so I changed it to a 1x10 setup using the stock 36T chainring and 11-36T cassette. As for weight its not that much heavier than a similarly priced Strive, only about 800 grams.
Nerve AL+ 9.0, £2559, 12.6kg
Strive AL 9.0, £2809, 13.7kg
Torque EX Alpinist, £2809, 14.5kg0 -

Took in all the info and ended up going for a strive 9.0 :-) Cheers guys :-)0

With the benefit of hindsight would you make the same choice, or go for the Strive?0 -

It'd be a tough choice. Sitting here now I can't decide which, I'd be very happy buying the AL+ again, I can't decide if the Strive offers anything I need that the AL+ doesn't do/have. I plan to buy a DH bike within 6 months so don't plan to use one bike as a 'do-it-all'. If I was to have just one bike then I'd probably be tempted by the Strive (but if that was the case I'd be looking at a Torque).0 -

Nothing heard since order confirmation on Tuesday and still no payment taken. Product is now out to a week 30 delivery date on their web site. Why am I starting to think I am not being told the whole truth?0 -

AFAIK the date on the website reflects the date if you were to buy there and then, if you've already ordered it will be different, send them a quick email if the estimated time has passed, they were really quick to reply to any questions I've sent them.0 -

Thanks for that. Have sent the a friendly email (no point getting nasty), so will see what they say.0 -
Just placed my order for a Nerve AL+ 6.0. Can't wait for it to arrive!
My only concern is that I seem to be just on the limit between medium and large (6'2", 90cm inseam). I've gone for the medium as i'd rather it be slightly on the small side than bigger.
Has anybody had any experience with the 30 day swap that Canyon offer? I under the impression that I can give it a quick ride round the block and get it swapped for a large if it's too small.0 -
taffygriffiths wrote:do any of you canyon nerve owners find the bikes 'long' compared to other manufacturers?
im looking at either a
cube ams 110 race
ghost amr 5700/5900
canyon nerve AL 7/8
the nerve seems to have a much longer 'effective' top tube length and reach figures than the other two.
obviously without being able to try it first, i would have to take a punt! but better to get some idea first!
cheers guys!
I think they are a bit longer, I quite like that on my Nerve AM - but with a much shorter stem and wider bars than the stock bike0 -

I would of thought your well into the size large category. The Canyon size calculator flips into large over 87cm inseam.0 -
Do Canyon tend to err on the cautious side with the expected shipping week?
I think I'd like a yellowstone Al5.9 as my first proper bike after a good few years out of the game, but a 4week lead time is a bit annoying when I could get something of a similar spec/cost in a matter of days...0 -

Yeh i've been thinking a lot about this since ordering. I've gone for the medium. My current Specialized is a 19" frame and fits me well except I feel a bit stretched out. The smaller reach/top tube on the Canyon is what swayed me.
I can build it up when it comes and take it for a spin around the block and see what it's like. If it's too small i'll have to give them a call and get it swapped for a large. Both sizes are in stock so hopefully it won't take long for them to arrive.0 -
I'm 6'4 and the Large is only just big enough, I have no option to reduce the stem length, it would make the reach too short. If I was to buy again I'd go for the XL (which I initially chose but changed it) just to get that extra option to play with the stem length and bars etc.
I'd think Large is what you need unless you have short arms :P Remember that you can always reduce the reach with a shorter stem, it comes with a 90mm on the Large, going down to 40mm would change the reach quite drastically.0 -

In my experience they are a little more a best case rather than conservative. For example, immediate seems to mean ships at least a week later. Anyhow, my 6.9 shipped today a week after order so I am happy.0 -

Im the same height and have a large, really debated going up to a xlarge but on reflection I prefer the maneuverability of the smaller size. I have thought about messing around with the bar width but having been through labyrinth at swinley my bars are wide enough, pesky trees0 -
Can anyone tell me the diameter of the seat post on an al 6 or 9 please struggling to find it on tinternet.0

Got a note to say it was dispatched today and a UPS reference number, but their web site just says that a shipment note was established today so it was not actually shipped. Longest 'ready for immediate shipping' I have experienced! Bike better be good...0 -

even more annoying is that my last bike was stolen so im bikeless till then..
