    Huzzah!

got mine last week and its fantastic :D
Just thankful i ignored the canyon pps sizing and went for the L, the M which was rec would have been a midgits bike for me.

How tall are you if you don't mind me asking?

    If its me your asking?

    Height=183cm
    inseam =87cm
and center of BB to top of saddle= 76.5cm
with these, canyon PPS rec the M but when i rang/emailed them, they said the L based on my measurements, even saying the M would need a different/longer seat post for me.

If you had put 88cm inseam the calculator would have said large. I don't think it's model specific so most people would be better off looking at the geometry chart to determine the required size.

After placing an order, did anyone else receive an email from Canyon UK, requesting photo identification?
I've just received the below email, after I ordered a Nerve Al+ 7.0 a couple of days ago.

No, however my card company always text me to confirm large payments. This is a good thing.

Finally complete (in time for summer, should it ever come), extensively modified 2012 Canyon Nerve AM. Remaining original parts are frame, tyres, chain and headset. May swap the headset out for a Works Components 1 degree one over summer.

Changes include Fox 36 Vanilla 160mm RC2 fork, Vanilla RC shock w Burgtec offset hardware, Hope hubs (20mm front, 10mm DT RWS rear) on Flow EX rims, Reverb, Charge saddle, Hope stem, Renthal fatbar and grips, Saint shifter with Zee rear mech, Token BB, MRP AMG chain guide, SRAM X0 DH crank, Bling Ring, Saint pedals, Zee front brake, rear brake is Zee lever with SLX caliper. Around half the upgrades were great value used parts.

Jobs remaining to be done are basically fork service (HSC dial is stuck), PUSH the rear shock, shorten those shockingly long brake hoses and perhaps the headset for more slackness.

Bike is a bit heavy but on first test seems to ride really well.

The Roadlite 6.0 SL, basic model but still better spec'ed than most for the money. Seems to have a better setup for a more comfortable ride. Will post pictures when it arrives!

    Hi

Has anyone fitted a Rockshox Reverb to a Grand Canyon 29er? I have last year's 7.9 and want to fit a Reverb but unsure whether I need a 31.6mm or 30.9mm one. Have tried measuring with a ruler but the difference is so miniscule that I am not confident on either size. Would really appreciate any assistance.

    Many thanks

you can find old web pages archived at web.archive.org

Have you got the rubber port in the seat tube for reverb stealth ?

Thanks for that adamfo. Much appreciated.

Where would I need to look to check for the rubber port?

If it's there, any idea how easy a stealth is to fit?
  • do any of you canyon nerve owners find the bikes 'long' compared to other manufacturers?

    im looking at either a
    cube ams 110 race
    ghost amr 5700/5900
    canyon nerve AL 7/8

the nerve seems to have a much longer 'effective' top tube length and reach figures than the other two.

obviously without being able to try it first, i would have to take a punt! but better to get some idea first!

    cheers guys!

You disconnect the lever from the hose and poke the hose through the rubber bung at the bottom of the seat tube.
The reverb stealth comes with a bleed kit. Here's my Nerve 7.9 29er

So I am curious, is it looking good for delivery tomorrow? Let us know the result. Still no word from Canyon for me, but it is well within the timeframe still, so while I am naturally impatient, I cannot complain. Their web site has gone from 'in stock' to 'avail week 32' for my model and size though since my order so I really hope that takes account of my order and not that they were processing the ones in front of me and I will get the 'we are really sorry but...' Email in the next day to so. Fingers crossed!
  • Not sure on the online sizing tool. I'm just under 6 ft and inseam of 32 and I'm being advised a small. Having just tried out a few Steven 29ers I found the 18 frame too small and the 20 slightly too stretched out.

I really thought it would be a large for me

I'm interested in the Yellowstone 29 er btw.

    My inseam in 87cm and I'm 5' 10 1/2. I bet yours is longer than 32".

Make sure you measure it properly. Book or ruler stuck under your crutch standing on a hard floor.

    Hi,
I'm 6 ft 5 and half inch tall (194 cm) and Canyon's sizing tool recommended to me L size of the Strive. Does anybody with similar height ride "L" sized Strive? Canyon also says, that "L" size is recommended for heights above 6 ft 2" (186 cm). Do you think, that I'm too tall for Strive?
I used to ride Giant Trance XL with 110mm stem before which was actually little bit bigger for me, so 90mm stem was solution. A I know, L sized Strive has 70mm stem.

Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts...

I am 182cm (i guess that is 5'11.5" in your money) and my inseam is 82,5 (32.5") and I was recommended a Medium. I called them to run the numbers past them and check and they confirmed this. I also compared the frame geometry against my current bike (especially effective top tube length) and this looked good.

I too was concerned as it is the second smallest size in 4 sizes and I am not a short guy but they reckon it will be fine. I also ordered a Yellowstone 6.9. I did that last Thursday night and have not yet had any contact other than the auto generated one :( , so I cannot yet tell you if it was the right choice, but I am confident enough that it is.

    I shall report…

I'm 6'4 and ride an AL+ in Large, it's fine but I don't have much to play with, if I wanted to reduce the stem the reach would be too short for me (current stem is 90mm). I don't know how the AL+ frame compares to the Strive in sizing though, check the charts.

What sort of riding do you do? I have the AL+ 8.0 and I'm really happy with it, I've ridden all sorts on it. For everything short of full on FR/DH it rides really well, for those I'd want a longer travel fork and beefier shock (the strive has the same rear shock as the AL+) and has Fox 34s instead of 32s. They're very similarly spec'd bikes though, the Strive looks to be more of an Enduro bike whereas the AL+ is a long travel trail bike.

It's all down to what you want out of it IMO.

Thanks Tudj.. Im currently using and anthem x3 and whilst it is a fantastic bike that has handled everything i have threw at it.. its just not cut out for drops and jumps... and I dont want to wreck it..

At the moment I am just playing around on a few local trail centres which don't have anything massively technical but I would hope to go further afield and try some of the other.. technical tracks around Scotland.. My hope is to buy a bike that can handle pretty much anything I can throw at it.. That said.. I am not planning on doing any 30 feet jumps or throwing myself off a cliff.. I do need something that will climb as well as it descends though.. that is paramount..

Jumps and drops are one thing I hold back on with my AL+, It's probably capable but it's not what it was made for, I don't fancy taking the chance!

Sorry to bring in another choice but have you looked at the Torque? A few people on here have them and testify they pedal up really well.

Yeah, I had a look but I think the weight is prohibitive.. Its a good few KG heavier than the Strive/Nerve and its only a single ring on the front.. I would struggle to get that up a hill :-)

I'm surprised, that you have L sized AL+ with your height because it has by 7mm shorter top tube than Strive, but 2cm longer stem. What about your crotch height vs. the 420mm RS Reverb dropper seat post length? Is it long enough? Do you have some reserve (how many cm could you pull it more?)?
What I'm concerned about is height of crank+seat tube+dropper post pulled out for my 36" crotch height. If no Strive, I'd choose XL AL+ with shorter 9mm stem (because XL is equipped by 100mm one). I can't believe that there are so few Strive riders... :(

I have no experience with the two bikes. From my perspective the main weakness of AL+ are wheels which are more XC than Enduro.

Fair point about the weight although I know people with trail bikes that weigh 2-3kg more than my AL+ :p That Torque I linked is dual ring up front.

I was stuck choosing between the L and XL, the L is perfect for me in its current configuration, it's only if I wanted to change the stem would it be too short.

I have lots of seatpost to play with, I currently have the reverb sat with 1 inch of seatpost (under the collar) outside the frame, I could move it a good few inches higher if I needed to. If you do order the XL I'm sure I've read that they will fit a shorter stem for you, don't buy an extra one :p

As for wheels, they are more XC than AM/Enduro.

When I bought my bike I didn't even consider the Strive, I didn't really understand the differences a few months ago.
