Enjoy and let us know how you get on, would be good to hear how the 29ers ride.[/quote]

Well Cannock was fun, wettest day for months up there.

First thing I have to say is that I didn't notice any real difference on the switchbacks or tight bits, that's what everyone says about 29ers right?
Had a few moments on the downhill bits mainly from the fact the bike just rolls faster and the wetness I think.
I'm really happy with it so far.

I have given up waiting on my Canyon.. after they put the delivery back for a second time I decided to cancel the order.

It was almost impossible to get a stright answer out of customer "support" and I use that term lightly...

Ended up going for a Cube Super Stereo 160 instead..

    Absolutely fair play.
When they put my date back the first thing I did was start looking for a whyte t-109s. If I'd have found one I'd have bought that instead,, this may well be my last Canyon.. But my god it rides well.

Tbh i would put up with there customer service, remember it used to be just one poor guy in the UK dealing with us and now loads of people are buying them.

Brought my OH her canyon and she loves it, i brought my roadie from canyon and again its such a great bike. For once its all about the bike and tbh the service they do get in touch if they need to, for me i will be getting another canyon, probably quite a few more over the years, 29er next then a carbon roadie maybe!

My Nerve AL 29 9.9 (XL) arrived yesterday :)

    Nerve-Al29er.jpg

I ordered it 8 weeks ago and had been given an expected dispatch date of this week. It was sent first thing on monday so only took 3 days to get here.

I went out for a ride on my local trail last night and first impressions were very good. My previous bike was a 2011 Nerve XC 8.0 and in comparison the 29er feels a lot smoother and more planted.

That looks very nice, is it grey, or a bare ally finish?

You should've cropped the car out of the picture though, lol

It's a grey, slightly shiny paint. My previous Canyon was black and white and I fancied a change.

    What car? ;)

It looks great, very understated. Cheeky picture edit there, lol (always check the edges of your viewfinder for unwelcome intrusions before pressing the shutter  ).

Does anyone know if you can buy Canyon clothing merchandise, ie I have seen a picture of Fabien Barel with a Canyon jersey. I had a look around (Google, Canyon website), but I can't find anything. Thanks

My Nerve AL 7 turned up yesterday after a 6 week wait Whoohoo!!

Was putting it together and found the rear wheel wouldn't fit, turned out to be a broken mech hanger, aarrrgggg. A quick phone call to UK service center, he said "take pictures of hanger and the box and send email to him" in the meantime I was allowed to fit the spare hanger that I had ordered with the bike, phew!

So a bit of tinkering with shock pump (my first full bouncer and first new bike in ten years or so) and I was off up the woods, what a bl00dy good ride I had too. The rear end felt a bit looser than my steel hardtail but was smoother and had a lot more contact with the ground so I could pedal more, I loved it and can't wait for the next ride. The only thing I don't like is the saddle, it's a bit too hard for my skinny @r$e.

Recieved an email today from canyon, they are sending me 2 new mech hangers free of charge. I have to say that I had a few reservations after reading about poor comunication but they have been excellent, they have replied to emails swiftly and been efficient with regards to processing my order and shipping.

Got mine today!!!! Will get some pics and thoughts together but a few points

*very impressed with how well packed and how well set up it was. Did nt even have to pump they tyres up!!

*Few mins set up with a spanner and it's fine - very surprised! Usually it takes me a few rides at least to get everything feeling right, this seemed to be ready to go straight out of the box! I know most of that's luck but still

*Incredibly impressed that every manual and every adaptor that would have come with the parts have been supplied (9mmQR adapters and skewer for example, and the UST tubeless stuff)

*First ride was fantastic, may be a total convert to 29ers here (sorry!)

    Problems

*Standover is a bit low (or hight depending on how you look at it), not much space down there for little ddraver!

*Saddle is horriffic and I think I need a layback post

Hi folks, finally breaking cover here after 3 months lurking. Also, ordered my new steed 3 months ago and only just arrived, as advertised, and didn't want to tempt fate by blabbing too early! 3 week wait? 8 week wait? HAH! TWELVE. Still, certainly worth waiting for and excitement at fever pitch by now.

1st MTB in 1986 - Dawes Cougar, took me everywhere and back - quarries, steelworks, top of Helvellyn, loved her to bits. Donated to son in 2007, "replaced" with more Real Steel - Orange P7. Again, superb machine. Bomb proof. Still slamming her around and never let me down. So why another? Well why not eh? Extremely dubious about full suss and all the recent (ie post-1986 ;-)) marketing gimmicks. Tried mates', not much difference - if your technique's rubbish no amount of gizmos will help you. Had a bit of luck though, so took the plunge. Wanted a 150mm+, & rear & dropper, & straightest tubes poss & understated. Took 4 months researching. Preferred Brit but Alpine 160 too much and a bit underspecced. Not the least bit interested in carbon (smashes to bits too easily for my suicidal riding), 29er ("easier", "rolls over obstacles" - EH????? Where's the fun in THAT???!), 1x11 (far too narrow). All overhyped con tricks in my book, and I hate all these new trendy curvy tubes too - look like kids bikes. Canyon - top value obviously. If I'm gonna buy, gotta save for best. AL+ 9.0 SL. Understated? Ah. Bit of a cockup there ;-). BLINGTASTIC! Can't believe I'm doing it.

3 months later here we are. Checked every month - nice emails from Canyon reassuring me. 2 weeks early credit card mob phoned - declined transaction from Germany. No probs, everyone gets that. Sorted it, bike arrives 4 days later. Superb packing. All the manuals you could wish for. Shock pump, torque wrench etc. Hour later it looks like a bike! Thicko me doesn't twig that rear axle is buried in wooden spacer packing. Emailed Canyon 5.50pm - replied FIVE MINUTES later, hardly the crap service I've been reading about. Bit longer to set my sags, off round the park for the obligatory fifty hard braking sessions to break in. Love the "stealth" black anodised paintjob. Daughter said "looks menacing". Or maybe it's me she thinks is menacing. So, a happy customer here so far! We'll see how the trails treat us at the weekend.....

  • Oh, when ordering I had the usual mega-wibbling about frame size like everyone else. Canyon tool claimed I was "S". But tweaking each detail by just a tiny bit changed it to "M". Took loads of measurements, and sent them along with the equivalent geometry of my P7 to Canyon and the guys were very helpful. Said stick with "S". Better slightly under than over - more chuckable if nothing else. Does seem somewhat smaller than P7. Had to turn bars slightly forward for reach, and head tube a bit short for me, but still feels grand.

  • Hi, looks good mate. I've recently ordered a nerve al 9.0sl ch in a medium. Delivery expected 23/8/13. I was borderline on the sizing also between small and medium but I've opted for the medium as when I bought my cube hardtail I went for the small and it was always a bit too small for me forcing me to purchase a medium frame. I can't wait for the nerve to arrive especially after seeing your photos. I'm impressed that they send you all of the manuals etc for any components on the bike, that's a nice touch. Also nice to hear a favourable report of their customer service as I've read some in this thread that were not as complimentary towards canyon.
Hope they stick to my expected delivery date as its 2 weeks before I do the Isle of Man end 2 end challenge and I'm hoping to have the luxury of choosing between the cube carbon hardtail or the shiny new canyon full suss to take with me. Decisions decisions

Because you were fannying around for 3 months before you got around to placing your order?

    :D
  • Ridiculously slow tonight & I cant seem to login as derbyram so masquerading as my altergo Reg. Good luck with your purchase Secret, ignore my ravings about carbon/29ers/etc I'm just an old fart who loves steel so what would I know :-). Which bike to take to IoM? Well that's obvious surely - both! :-). 12 weeks wait - well it'll be at least 26 now because AL+9.0SL sold out now apparently.

Nothing to do with Canyon, but here's my new bike train below. Took the Extrawheel behind P7 on TransCambrian route a while back - superb carrier for camping gear and emergency beer. Screaming down Foel Fadian, didn't even know it was out back. Note the Brompton in the trailer - emergency bike rescue in case of main bike breakdowns ;-).

On that note, I was able to pay by a bank transfer from the Netherlands which I had to make 10 days before the due date. I did nt know this at the time so waited until i had everything saved whereas actually I could have ordered a month/6 weeks earlier.

I don't know if this is possible (or desirable with FEX rates changing and all that noise) but I'd not heard of that option until I was placing the order (maybe because I always looked at Canyon.co.uk)

  • Well it's a mean machine indeed.

saddle = comfy enough but prefer my Selle X0 with hole for me bits to dangle.
Formula levers = love the reach/bite adjustments, tinkered so are perfect.
Formula brakes = broke them in 50 times, stops on a pinhead, lovely. Annoying "tinny" rattle from front ring. Others think this is due to thin/lightness and slight flex on corners.
XTR shifters = no clutter of old XT indicators, deffo tighter/louder/positive than XT.
Talas 150/120 CTD = loving CTD. Canyon alternative was Rose which had remote CTD which sounded cracking. However, takes 2 secs to reach down and flick CTD. Kashima? Not sure I can tell difference TBH but looks blingy which is obviously the main thing ;-). "C" could do with being a bit more lockout-y. Not convinced I'm getting 120 though - 130 more like. Others have reported this, but it must be us surely?
Thru axle = "stiffer"? - well again, my riding must be namby pamby cos I can't tell that much difference from QR.
Cobalt wheels = getting gobsmacked looks so again that's the main thing ;-). Very light I must say, spin up fast. Fair bit of lateral flex, which I don't mind but that surely negates any thru-axle "stiffness"?! Very bored these days reading the following words in the rags: "stiff", "super stiff", "sweet", "buttery", "plush", etc. New adjectives please!
XTR rear mech lock = Fair enough, does what it says.
Reverb post = fantastic! brilliant on DHs of course, but for me the UPHILLs are the revelation - can really get arse up in the air so legs powering and don't get wrecked UH.
Conti MK tyres = protection version, do the job. P7 has RS version + Xking front, never been entirely convinced re cornering grip, but have to say incredibly fast and Ok in wet. Prefer Xking up front.
Verdict = beautiful looking machine (stealth black is evil), screams along nicely, stops, corners, goes up and down - sums it up ;-).

Any pics yet Raver or Secret?

Just ordered the al 9.0 di2. Looking through the FAQs I saw the headset cap isn't supplied. Do I need to order from them or will any generic cap be ok?

I need to replace the front bearings on my AM1900 DT Swiss wheels from last year's Nerve AM 7.0.

Canyon pointed me to TF Tuned but they need to know the bearing number. I've not stripped them down yet so don't know. I don't suppose anyone knows the bearing number do they, or whether the AM1900 hub is equivalent to something else in DT Swiss's line up.

    Cheers

Turns out the 2013 Nerve AL 29er was a pointer to the 2014 design philosophy. The new Nerve AL 650b and Spectral AL 650b & 29er.

I'm guessing, but it would appear the Nerve AL 26 and AL+ are history.

The carbon Nerve CF 26 introduced this year continues alongside the new Lux CF 29er

So I have been a little critical of Canyons customer service and their Danish rep is pretty bad, but credit where it is due. I had a very small warranty issue where the right (rear) shifter cover fell off and was lost. Not a huge issue except it will clearly get mud in it etc and will limit its life.

So warranty request placed and while they were very slow (over a week) at replying they shipped a replacement no other questions asked. Happy with that and while I was not happy before with their service, I think balance is important hence this post.

    Interesting factory visit photos here

    http://road.cc/content/feature/89663-in ... n-bicycles

Scrolling through the pictures it can be gleaned that the UK is not a particularly large market for Canyon if their website hits stats are any indicator of sales.

Canyon assemble 250 bikes a day.

The women customer services rep who doesn't much like indecisive Britishers bleaches her hair.

Canyon perhaps sell more road bikes than mountain ??

I was looking at canyon site over the weekend and most of the models have sold out, i guess new 2014 models due soon.

Do canyon put the bikes not sold for 2013 on sale as i dont mind a new bike in a colour i dont paticulary like if its got money off :D

I was looking at getting a nerve 6 or 7 for my first taste of full suss bike but shall wait if they are going 650b in 2014.

They do, you have to be quick (sign up to their newsletter) and sizes are a bit hit and miss.

Noooooo! That one in the photo - they must have crashed it during the demo. The frame's all bent! I'm mega relieved I managed to get in this year while you could still get a proper shaped frame.
