The Canyon bikes thread

Ok, so my order was apparently passed to UPS on Friday. Since then it's status on the UPS web site has been 'origin scan' in Frankfurt on Friday 17. No activity since then. Scheduled delivery is tomorrow, Wed 22nd. Monday was a holiday in Germany so was not surprised to see little activity over the weekend, but I am now a little concerned.
My question is, what are others experience? Does UPS update their site? Trying to work out if it is worth sitting at home tomorow as planned to recieve the bike. Really don't want to take a day off then not have it arrive. Can't afford to take another day off.
Any comments from recent recipients really appreciated.0 -
Yeah UPS update the tracking details fairly promptly when I was checking. The bank holiday may just well delay it an extra day.0
-
You can normally tell when a package is about to be delivered. The package goes into the UK delivery hub then the regional delivery one. The website updates this info during the night.0
-
Oh well, we will see. Forum member lm_trek had his ship on Friday night a few weeks back and on a week with no bank holiday had a stated delivery day of Tuesday the next week and it arrived on Tuesday. Given this and the holiday I was not surprised to see Wednesday as my planned date.
Oh well, I will make call in the morning and hope the boss is flexible enough to give me a day of on Thursday instead if it doesn't look like it will arrive. Whatever happens, don't want to miss it when it arrives and have to wait another day. Patience is not my strongest personal characteristic!0 -
How long does it generally take for a bike to arrive when available from stock?
I placed my order on saturday, recieved an email yesterday (tuesday) with terms and conditions ect. saying planned delivery date is week 27, that's about 5 weeks away!! I like to think myself as a pretty patient person, but thats quite a wait speciallly when they claim to ship out within 5 days.
EDIT:
It turns out I've ordered a frame that's currently out of stock  . When I first checked availabilty my computer or wifi had a brain fart and nothing happened. Since placing my order I've checked again and this time it worked, it shows the size and colour that I ordered to be out of stock . So I guess I'll just have to wait a while.Bird Aeris. Well I ordered mine last Thursday and got the same email with terms and conditions etc on Monday with an expected delivery date of week 21 (this week) but still not heard anything about it being dispatched.
5 weeks does seem along time for a bike that was available from stock though.0 -
Delivered today, yea" was a long tale of poor communication though. A little more effort from canyon would make a big difference. Of ppt well, quite happy but scratched up bars a little annoying.
Look forward to a ride tomorrow.0 -
So here it is. Sorry for orientation, only way I could get it to post. Size is a little small. I should fix it with a lay back post, it it is a little annoying since I did question the size with them.
Some big scratches on the bars under the grips but the rest in top notch condition on arrival. Easy set up.
Overall reaction...
Mix of total frustration at lack of communication and happiness. Very happy with overall presentation of the bike. It is everything it is cracked up to be and fantastic value for money. Dissapointed with the lack of communication during the buying process. I am in Denmark, and the Danish local rep routinely contacted me 2 days after I had already found something out through other means and he added nil value. Disappointed also with the sizing tool as a large would have been better for me. I am borderline and will fix it with a lay back post but that is a cost and it is a disappointment. Also disappointed with the scratched bars which were hidden with grips and the shifting, lock out and brake hardware. Totally not critical and is what it is, but I can get grips and hardware on without scratching the bars, I expect them to as well. I found all this out as I neglected to ask them to put the brakes on the right way. I am an Aussie in Denmark so set my bike up the proper way! That they were not set up right is my fault, but it did expose the fact that they scratched the bars up pretty bad.
Last note is that on my very crap scales, it came up at 11kg against a stated 11.5. Doubt I can rely on that, but is is 2kg lighter than my old bike, same set up, same scales so I am super happy with that. Felt it on the climbs today too. Rocket!0 -

I would of thought It's impossible to buy a wrong size mountain bike. All the angles and frame dimensions are on the websites.
On a road bike frame sizes are much closer together, so yes it's a harder choice to make.0 -

Ha ha, probably what they will say but no. It was there before and I pulled them off without tools. Anyhow, can't see it so not really caring. It's disappointing but not critical. It would be if it were visible, but it isn't.
Size wise, I think I am borderline so probably not as black and white as sending it right back. Ordered a cheaply superstar lay back post to see how that feels before I make rash decisions.0 -
So a week on and a few good rides, what is the impression? Bike is awesome. Love it so much. Would I recommend Canyon to a friend? Not so sure. Would I buy one again? Probably not. I know some have accused me of never being happy but that is simply not the case. I do however have a level of expectations.
After a lot of mods, like new bars (off my old bike) and a lay back post, I have found a fit that works. That cost a lot though. The post is a cheap trial, but if I want to match the weight of the original, I need to spend some money. The bars are off my old bike and I want them back there as I still ride it, so will again need to spend more. Sure it will only be a hundred quid or so, but that adds to the over all cost. The scratches on the original bars are an annoyance only, but they should not be there.
The big issue, as it has been all along, is nil communication from Canyon. They simply do not talk to you. I dread a real warranty issue. I politely explained my fit issues have have had nil reply after 3 full business days.
So, fantastic bike, awesome value, it crap service. Not the first to have said it. So for the next purchase, I don't know. I am not saying don't buy from them, it please be warned...0 -
We ve done this before, but to everyone considering Canyon, there is a reason why they re cheap, and its because you don't get the one to one service that you get in an LBS. They make their money by selling a set amount of identical bikes to people all over the world with the minimum of customer contact (which takes time, which costs money)
Anyway, you ve just made me more excited to get mine so it's all good! We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

Had a quick ride on my new Nerve AL+ tonight but still unsure whether it's too small or not. My inseam is 88cm which they recommend a large for but if I change it to 87cm it changes to medium so it seems i'm right on the border between the two sizes. I went for the medium in the end as I thought the large would be too big.
I'm not sure whether it's also because it's my first full suspension bike and it's got a much slacker head angle than the Rockhopper. Maybe I just need to get used to it.
I guess i'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they recommend over the phone.0 -

Went out on my Canyon for the first time in nearly a year, been road biking mostly over the last few months. Gave it a quick fettle and everything worked fine on the ride, just need a put a few more psi in the shock though plus I think the reverb needs a bit more pressure.Eddy Merckx EMX-3

Hi anyone out there got a Nerve 29er .I have a Nerve AL 9.9 which I think is very impressive.0

I have to say that they've always got back to my emails fairly quickly and even sent me out a new seat for my old xc 7 because it came unstitched at the front.
So they're not complete bellends on communication0 -
I sent an email to Canyon Germany last Friday asking about a URL for a parts diagram and got an answer in 20 minutes.
I think the problem lies in the type of question being asked. Each of us knows our own body dimensions. Quite why people can't work out what frame size they need is puzzling. All the dimensions and angles are shown on the Canyon website. There's not a lot more they can tell you that you can't work out yourself.
Some Germans call Britishers 'Island Monkeys' and no that's not a compliment0 -
I sent an email to Canyon UK and it took days for a response so I called Canyon HQ in Germany and the woman hung up on me because I said i wasn't happy the after sales service.
I had a problem with one of the wheels on my bike which was a total funk around trying to get sorted. Eventually when the new wheel came the courier knew nothing about collecting the old wheel even though i was told it needed to be packaged for return. Scored a free Sun Ringle Charger Pro wheel/hub but pissed at the service all round.
People have good days and bad days yes but it's customer service and sales so you need people that can deliver every day all day.
You hear stories of people calling companies asking for help with their products and someone going above and beyond what's required. That needs to happen more. People are too used to pish service nowadays.2011 Giant Trance X2 - SOLD

More likely people are prepared to accept lesser service to save a significant chunk of money...We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

Based on the 26er prices it will probably start at £2600

Well, it's made production as a 2014 model with flexing seatstay.
Amazing how thin and light. Anyone know what the material actually is, some sort of carbon plastic matrix ?
