  • ah OK cheers I'll leave it for now then. one other niggle i have with the bike is the suspension. i added a volume reducer to the rear shock which has sorted that out but the front fork still has a similar problem. it dives far to easily through the travel, the trails i ride are twisty and very steep so it would be nice if it was more supportive. i read (somewhere) that adding oil to TALAS side will help. i don't feel confident opening up the forks without at least a guide so i can see what i am doing. anyone know of anything like this? if not i'll live until it comes time to service the fork.

Nice. I've got the humble 7.9 version on order.

I can't decide whether to get the black or grey version :?:

Size Large: This is the bike that won the large group test in Mountain Bike magazine (Germany) this month.

Thats just how talas forks are there is not a lot you can do about it other than switch the talas air spring for a float unit costs about £100 minus whatever you can get selling on the talas assembly.

the top of the range AL9 race comes with the float as standard funnily enough.
ribble sportive for the black stuff

Canyon Strive AL 8.0 for the brown and green stuff.

My Canyon Nerve Al+ has developed a issue after just 2 months of moderate use. The rear hub/axle has developed movement/play :( . Has anyone got any info/ideas how to fix it? It has Mavic crossride wheels

2 months of moderate use shouldn't have caused it to fail yet should it?

Did it come with a funny looking spanner/tyre lever? Use that to tighten the caps on the hubs so the play disappears

Just got my new canyon nerve al 29 9.0sl Wednesday.

    nerve_zpsd049b69c.jpg

    Changed grips - useless
Tyres - still too muddy put on mud x's
    Saddle - my trusty spesh

The bike is awesome. So fast up, along and seriously fast downhill!
Had a specialized stumpjumper 120 before, heavily modded with mavic cross max sts, but this is awesome.

Is that a size large frame ? You must be tall looking at the seatpost position.

Hmmmm, Mavic spare parts are very difficult to come by. You may be waiting a while, but good luck all the same...

What have you got on the bike to avoid chain slap?
  • adamfo
    adamfo Posts: 763
The clutch mechanism in Sram type 2 and Shimano shadow plus derailleurs reduce chain slap.

When was the original due date for your nerve mate?

Mine should be coming next week if all is working to plan, ive ordered the Black, but it seems the grey/green are coming through alot quicker.

Does it come as standard with their bikes? I've ordered a Nerve Al 9.9.

It is incredible! Really smooth better than I thought. The bike is dropper stealth ready too. So fast up and down. Just fiddling with air pressures on the fork and shock. The fork blows through its travel a little too much. The remote for the fork and shock is handy too but they don't have any adjustment for trail tune just rebound. Saddle is horrible as are grips. Will probably get a riser bar too to bring the height of front up.
The gears are 38/24 which are a little high. I ask trying to change it to a 36/22t. I like granny climbing.
All in all a major leap forward from my stumpjumper.

The June issue of WMB has a first ride test of the Nerve 9.9 SL 29er

The current issue I picked up today is the trail bike of the year one. Bewilderingly the newish all carbon, helium light, CF8.0 26er @ £2500 is not included. Canyon do take out the occasional whole page ads with future publishing.
  • My Al 9.9 was due this week however just had an email from Canyon saying they are waiting on some components so its going to be another 3 weeks! Gutted! Ive been waiting since november so I suppose another few weeks won`t hurt much!

I wonder if it's the Fox forks causing the delay. As far as I can make out virtually all of the more basic spec. 2013 Evolution and Talas have had cartridge seal problems.
In a German mountain bike mag I read a Talas FIT fork failed on their test Lapierre Zesty. In another group test 3 out of 4 evolution forks lost rebound.
I would imagine updated parts are being retro-fitted ?

What sort of frame finish do the current grey Canyons use ?

The black ones are anodized. Is the grey some sort of baked on epoxy or a smooth, satin type paint ?

Best described as a smooth wet finish from the ones i saw at the london bike show.

I can't decide whether or not I like the grey. You wouldn't buy a car in a colour that look like primer :?

I do like the carbon Nerve which is largely unpainted. It's a very industrial look showing raw UD carbon in places.

    Hi guys

All the pictures of the canyons look great!!

Have been trying to decide for some time on a canyon for myself and have just pushed the button on a Torque EX Vertride thanks to all the information available.

Thanks for all the great reviews and now can't wait to get my hands on it!!!!!!!!!
  • Ive Pm'd Paul but just asking here if an lurkers have similar 9.9sls.

Has anyone had any problems with the ctd on the fork? When you switch it to climb does the fork pretty much lock out?

I can't really tell much difference between the three modes on the fork and can just cycle it to at least half travel without much effort in all three. I can feel a tiny bit more compression damping but not enough to do anything.

Ill ask Canyon but wanted to know if they all do similar first.

    Thanks!

RichBeardo, did you ever get an answer to the Fox question ??
