I'm thinking about getting a nerve al 29 but can't make my mind up whether to get the 7.9 or the 9.9. Does the upgrades on the 9.9 justify the £610 price difference on a performance point of view?0
-
If you can, get the top of the range one. To upgrade the components on the 7.9 to the ones on the 9.9 at a later date should you wish to do so would cosy you more than the extra 610 now.0
-
The wheels are obviously a big upgrade on the 9.9, but how much better is the the factory fork over the evolution one on the 7.9? The only other upgrade on the 9.9 are the shifters and front derailleur which are xt, but aren't slx on the 7.9 just has good?0

Tried to buy a Canyon nerve al 8 last tuesday night and my bank declined the transaction
Phoned them up, was told they have cleared it.
Phoned canyon as i got 2 emails saying they unable to process my order.....was told it will go through but they have no manual control over it and the process is purely automatic
So i checked my bank account tonight and still no payment taken from my account by canyon
i very much doubt now anything is happening so going to have to phone them early tomorrow..London2Brighton Challange 100k!

Are there any improvements to the strive between 2012 and 2013 ? and is the frame the same across all models ?
Cheers for any help in advance.0 -

Sounds like same as me. After following up they managed to clear the transaction between them (Canyon and my bank) and I'm "working from home" tomorrow as the bike is due to be delivered then. Hopefully I won't care about the minor inconvenience once it arrives...FCN: 3 on the singlespeed, 4 on the roadie.0 -
Im going to have to phone them today as still no email, so clearly they havnt tried taking money out again.
Looks like im in limbo atm:(
Checked my account and nothing changed either.....sigh
Its very annoying that its all automatic as by the time you phoned everyone concerned to allow the process to go through its too late and you back to start again.London2Brighton Challange 100k!

My bike arrived this afternoon
Without the rear axle quick release bolt....
They're sending me one in the post. Grrrrr.
Edit: I figured it out - there is no rear axle quick release (despite the UK Canyon office telling me it should be in the small parts box). The rear axle is inside the block of wood, and is a good old fashioned allen key type.
I'm an idiot
Having said that, they put the 36/22 chainring on when I asked for the optional 38/24. A quick call in the morning should fix it. Photos to follow, when I get a moment to take some.FCN: 3 on the singlespeed, 4 on the roadie.0 -

Lol, that stumped me too. It was made even more confusing by the fact that mine did come with a rear 9mm QR too (no idea why when the rear is 142x12).0 -
Turbo124's bike is meant to be delivered today, but given how long he has waited i am kind of hoping for some kind of calamity. Does that make me an evil person? Jealousy does some strange things to people!0

update:: have found out that even though i phoned up bank they put a block on my card because: "one of their anti fraud criteria was reached but they cannot tell me which one " lol
so went into bank myself and they put me on a direct line to the fraud team....
They have unblocked my card and i have 24 hours to make the purchase.....
I really hope canyon process this quickly otherwise im back to square one again!!!!London2Brighton Challange 100k!

Very nice Benjo74,
Have to admit that I've been tempted with this bike. It will be interesting to know your thoughts after your first ride.0 -
Anyone with a 2013 Strive thinking that the shock goes too easily through it's travel? The float ctd bv seems to have little holding it back mid stroke to me so even though sag is set at 20% i'm pushing the rubber ring off the shock in trail mode on nothing more than 18" drops.
Mojo suggested a spring volume tuning kit to ramp up the end of the stroke but before I shell out £33 I figured it was worth asking if anyone else had issues in case it could be something else. It doesn't seem right that a shock needs upgrading from new - or are they known for this?

Does anyone have experiences of Canyon's 29er MTB sizing?
Entering in my exact measurements on the Canyon Yellowstone AL 5.9 website tells me I need an XL (22"). However it seems I'm right on the cusp, drop my height by 1cm and the recommendation is for L (20"). My currently 26er Kona Blast is a 20" and fits me well. I'm 6'3".0 -
Im 6'3 and i have a large XC Nerve and its about right I had the same issue but opted for the Large as it was suggested it would handle better0

Having a bit of a nightmare here with my canyon order, even though it isnt really Canyons fault this becoming very annoying
Ordered bike last Tuesday/wednesday.....Order went through but Bank blocked canyon payment, i then received a Fraud call(automated ) asking if the payment was correct, i confirmed it was.
Canyon then tried again.....bank blocked it!!!!
I called up bank and spoke to human..told them to allow payment to go through...
Canyon reset the process and tried again.....
Credit card blocked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I then had enough after phoning canyon up and finding out their automatic system cant get through to bank.
Go into bank myself(Nationwide) and get put on a direct line to credit card peeps, they tell me its triggered security measure but cannot say which one...sigh
But am told im given 24hours to try again with payment... HERE'S THE NIGHTMARE...
Phone up canyon and told"
As they dont charge you when you initially purchase the bike, but you are purely reserving it, you then get charged when it about to be dispatched....which you are given a aprox 48 hour window
The bank will not grant such a window, only 24 hours from when you call them.
Thus heres the problem, i dont know when canyon will dispatch exactly, only given a 48 hour window, thus banks 24 hour window keeps failing.
im screwed and from what canyon told me many many customers here in uk re too( our banks causing them issues too)London2Brighton Challange 100k!

Very nice bike. Which model is it? Let us know how you get on with it? Is it your first Hardtail?
It's the Grand Canyon AL 7.9, been on a full sus the last 6 yrs and had a hardtail before that but never really did any proper mountain biking on the previous hardtail, so it will be a bit different. Not going to get a chance to go out on it till Tuesday (work, the child, etc) so until then I'll just be staring at it in the house like a loser.FCN: 3 on the singlespeed, 4 on the roadie.0 -

Hey MeTrek8000,
Is the top black paint under clearcoat or do you think it may come to suffer the same scratching issues someone's had with the anodised bike?0 -
tudj wrote:Looks much better there than on their site! How you finding it? I love my AL+, excited about being out on it over the weekend (both days with any luck)
It's been alright, a few niggles like squealing brakes etc, etc and getting the suspension dialed in. Needing to use more psi than recommended or it just bottem's out.
Would like to be out at the weekend myself as the trails have now started to dry out but I've got a cold.0 -

Don't think it has on the toptube, it does on the downtube where it says CANYON in yellow. I thinks thats "clearcoat"?
After my 1st off-road ride in which I nearly crashed ( ) I did notice some light scratches but it could of been a lot more worse outcome for me and the bike so I wasn't bothered. 8)0 -
got my Canyon
Looks very nice, although i am finding it a little hard putting it together lol(first time full suspension,= failing to get rear wheel onto bike )
One question, does the nerve come with Syntace 142x12mm screw?? or the standard QR, only ask as i thought it might be the syntace but mine came with QR standard.London2Brighton Challange 100k!
