Mine came with the Syntace 142x12mm screw - but you need to remove it from the block of wood attached to the rear of the frame though0

Is it a Nerve Al+ or Nerve Al? :?:
The Al+ has a Syntace 142x12mm screw, the Nerve Al has the standard QR.0 -

I've been watching this thread for a while now before eventually ordering a Torque EX Alpinist last Friday. It turned up yesterday after only four working days from Germany.
Haven't had the chance to get out on it yet so can't comment on how it rides. Very impressed with the finish/quality of the bike.
I had a look at a few other bikes before ordering this one and couldn't find anything close to the spec of the Canyon for the same money.

Bought a Canyon AL 8.0, 2 months ago, and I love it! have been riding lots of red trails.. it's nice and light but feels very solid, has a nice feel when cornering, good aggressive positioning, and is a breeze on the uphill with the 30 gears!! I shortened the stem to 70mm and this suits me... I may get a slightly wider bar, and probably change the grips as they are a little too hard, and may fit a dropper seat post! -but that's by the by. All in all very pleased with the bike, and for the price, it's pretty much unbeatable!0

jonnyseven wrote:Anyone with a 2013 Strive thinking that the shock goes too easily through it's travel? The float ctd bv seems to have little holding it back mid stroke to me so even though sag is set at 20% i'm pushing the rubber ring off the shock in trail mode on nothing more than 18" drops.
Mojo suggested a spring volume tuning kit to ramp up the end of the stroke but before I shell out £33 I figured it was worth asking if anyone else had issues in case it could be something else. It doesn't seem right that a shock needs upgrading from new - or are they known for this?
Cheers
Yes, the high volume air can is known for this, lots of pedal strikes but you get a great floaty feeling..

SoaringPanda wrote:Are there any improvements to the strive between 2012 and 2013 ? and is the frame the same across all models ?
Cheers for any help in advance.
Several changes , 34 forks instead of36s and tyres now maxiss across he range, more nasty SRAM stuff too.... Frame same though.
It's lighter all round but maybe not just as burly0 -
hi all not sure if this is the right place to ask but here goes-
I have a 2012 NERVE AM 8.0x currently fitted with canyons own lower chain device.
i find this device ok but have had to grease the bearings twice in three months since the bike was new.
(it came from the factory with the chain device)
i want to fit a better/more heavy duty device ie blackspire , gamut etc but am unsure of which size fitment
to get - ISCG or ISCG 05 ...will these actually fit or are the tabs different?
it has a 2x 10 setup (so dont want to fit an adapter and have then to run 1 x10, want to keep 2 x 10)
Any firm advice of what is correct fitment?
thanks in advance

anyone got any input on sizing for 2013 strive i'm 5'7"ish with a 30" inseam. There appears to be similar sized people choosing the small then others choosing the medium has anyone got any experience to share on this topic, what are the pros and cons of each. :?: :?:0

I am the same height and inseam as you and I use a 16.5" (Small) Nerve CF and that is just right. Looking at the Strive geometry the Medium is 18.5" which sounds way to big so I'd go for the 16.5" Small. Have you used the Canyon sizing tool to see what they say? Also it is worth checking geometry against your existing bike. Hope this helps.0 -

go for the small, the strive comes with a custom 6 inch drop reverb, i'm 5'10 with a 32 inseem and there is only about 3/4 of an inch to spare as far as inserting the seatpost goes on the 18.5 for me.ribble sportive for the black stuff

A much-discussed topic!
Tabs are sadly not ISCG nor ISCG05. It is possible to buy an adaptor from Canyon that converts it to ISCG05 (I think they call it the Hammerschmidt plate, I think it comes with the Torques but you have the buy it separately with the Nerve). Otherwise if you have Shimano drivetrain you could use a BB mount.0 -
I feel that my Canyon nerve 2012 has a particularly steep head angle so I was looking at getting this:

ok thanks for that , have a SRAM 2200 Carbon 2 x 10 crank set fiited as standard and have now ordered the adapter
plate from canyon, now just have to decide which chain device to buy that will work with it! any ideas...?

No not yet but have been reading up on them, all seems fine, no bad reports.
Note that the angle adjust is more than listed , usually by about 0.5degrees due to the headset cups being external. Aslo cos of the headset cups it will lift the front end of your bike so 1. you'll need a longer fork steerer tube and 2. you'll need to slam the stem or go for a lower rise bar to keep the same riding position.playasyougo wrote:I have a 2012 ES8 and yes the rear shock blows through travel easily. I have a Fox Shock Volume Tuning Kit and it does help to prop up the rear shock, helps to prevent bottoming and you can run lower pressure for small bump compliance.
It should do exactly what you want.
I'm 12 stone when geared up, found the small shim made a tiny difference but not worth it, the medium still not quite enough, and the large far too much. I ended up sanding down the large shim to between the mid and large size and its perfect for bigger hits. Still bottoms but only on real big hits now.

That's good info there, thanks. I'm 16 stone without riding gear so i'm going to start from the Medium and use the Small in my girls Canyon Nerve since i have it in the kit.2011 Giant Trance X2 - SOLD

I have a Strive 8.0 2012, here's a few comments in relation to some of the questions that have come up:
- 2012 frame has a burlier mount for the rocker link than the 2011
- 2013 frame has a hole near the bottom of the seat tube for the Stealth Reverb
- Change to 34 instead of 36 forks is by & large a marketing gimmick. The weight of the Strive 8 from 2012 to 2013 is exactly the same... The weight saving from the 34 has been tempered somewhat by the CTD rubbish. I think there is about 80g difference, it's not really noticeable. What is noticeable is a 34 fork is quite some way off the stiffness of a 36. A downgrade in my opinion for no real gain.
- The rear XV2 can doesn't suit the bike's likely use, blowing through too easily with aggressive riding/drops. I'm now running the largest tuning kit spacer which changes the compression ratio from 2.5 to 3.0, a 20% increase. Before I had to run so much pressure I was at barely 10% sag and now I can run a more sensible pressure whilst the rear still feels more supportive mid stroke for popping off lips and it lands like a cat off bigger stuff. The XV2 can is poorly specced on the Strive imo but at least there is a cheap fix.0 -
My Canyon Nerve Al+ has developed a issue after just 2 months of moderate use. The rear hub/axle has developed movement/play . Has anyone got any info/ideas how to fix it? It has Mavic crossride wheels
2 months of moderate use shouldn't have caused it to fail yet should it?0 -
probably wheel bearings, most OEM bearings are total gash, get some SKF bearings in there and you should be sorted.ribble sportive for the black stuff

crappy bearings can last a matter of days, the bearings in my strives wheels were bolloxed after about 6 rides, i popped in about £20 worth of good quality bearings and now all is well. regularly clean them out and pack them with grease too to keep shite out of them.ribble sportive for the black stuff

I thought the pre-load on the mavic crossride hub washer was adjustable ?0

the slow rolling is probably down to the tyres, bearing wear will usually just make the wheels feel a bit rough when spun or make a rumbling noise. bearings should cost in the region of 20-30 quid for good quality SKF parts 6804 2rs(front) 6002 2RS(rear) for the sun ringle hubs. changing them is fairly straight forward simply knock out the old ones and press in the the new ones.ribble sportive for the black stuff

well true but i needed to savour the moment! can't do that with the misses moaning about me spending my bonus on another bike and the kids milling about:-)
Anyway... When i first ordered the thing they said that it wasn't reverb stealth compatible, seems they've updated it.
