Motorbike sold today so can start thinking seriously about ordering a Canyon!
Only problem is I'm undecided between a Nerve AL and AL+. Majority of riding will for the forseeable will be trail centres and singletrack and as a lot of my riding is in the Peaks, there is a fair bit of going up hills as well as down. I'm thinking therefore that the AL will be more than enough but part of me thinks the AL+ is the better bet (mainly because I prefer the looks).
Hmm, decisions decisions.0 -

I can tell zero difference between riding up hills on my AL+ when compared to my hardtail. I don't even lock out the suspension, I did Sunday's ride with it set to full travel and did 1300ft of climbing. Make of that what you will but I'd consider something like the AL+ having a reverb more of a swing-factor. There's no point going for it if you think it'll be too much bike though :P0 -
Anyone here got a Nerve AL29er? I'm looking at upgrading from my Scott Hardtail and the Canyon AL8.0 was at the top of my list however I'm wondering if I shouldn't go for the 29er.
Can anyone who has a AL29er say how it rides and whether it feels as good as a 26. I'm not debating the 26vs29 merits but we all know that the 26" Nerve AL's get good reviews so I would like to know how well the Canyon 29er rides in comparison.0 -

I agree, although it's easy to justify the things we want :P
I think you've already made up your mind :twisted:0 -
At last,
Bike arrived
could not be happier, and definitely worth the wait0 -
My Nerve CF was scheduled for delivery this week (after 2 delays) and after finally getting a response out of Canyon yesterday it has been delayed again... for another '2' weeks... starting to get pretty frustrating now.
Apparently they still haven't had delivery of a 'major component' but they wont tell me which component it is.0 -

Just been told my Grand Canyon AL 7.9 29er will be handed over to UPS for dispatch within the next 48 hours...

I spoke to them this morning on that number - had to call them as my credit card company rejected my payment because it was "suspicious activity"!! Something about it being a high payment, online, overseas company, etc. If they paid any attention to my credit card history, they'd have realised that the majority of my spending is on overpriced bike stuff. Anyway...
It is open from 10am to 5pm (IIRC). I didn't get through at first but tried again 5 mins later and got through to them. That number is the UK number, my order confirmation also has a German number, if you want it: +49 (0)261 40 4000FCN: 3 on the singlespeed, 4 on the roadie.0 -
There doesn't appear to be many Canyon reviews in the mags recently so if anyone has just received a new Canyon, particularly 29ers or carbon Nerves, and fancies themselves as an amateur reviewer perhaps they could post a review.Eddy Merckx EMX-3

There are German mag reviews of the Nerve CF on the Canyon site, in English (sort of)

I have a Nerve CF 8.0 which I took delivery of last September and have been riding for 2-3 times a week since then. I would agree with the first review on the link above, it is a great all round XC/trail bike and very good value for money.0 -
As my bike hasn't been shipped yet, and noticing that Canyon sell the pedals I want at as good (or better) price as anywhere else, I decided to ask them to chuck a pair in the box when they ship it, and add the price to my bill.
I emailed them on the weekend but no answer. Decided to call today, in case they shipped the bike before seeing my order, and was told its too late. Even though the order hasn't been shipped, they can't add some pedals to the order. Seems weird to me.
Anyway, the bloke on the phone said, no prob though. We'll order you the pedals separately and send them with no delivery charge.
Very impressed! For me, that's great service.FCN: 3 on the singlespeed, 4 on the roadie.0 -
Has it arrived yet Benjo? Make sure you put some pics up...0

Not arrived yet.
I haven't even been given the UPS tracking details yet. I was told it would be handed to UPS "in the next 48 hours" and that was last week. I'm making allowances for the weekend, but I'd have expected to have shipping confirmation by today.
In contrast, the pedals that I ordered separately yesterday have been handed to UPS today and I have received a tracking number for them. This makes me think there is likely to be some delay on the bike, despite being told it was "in stock" and ready to be shipped, but lets wait and see.FCN: 3 on the singlespeed, 4 on the roadie.0 -
Update: I followed up with Canyon today to see where my bike is (pedals are now in the UK, making their way to me). Canyon said that the order is on hold as my card was declined! I pointed out that I had spoken to my bank last week, when it was first declined, to tell them it is a genuine transaction and not a fraud, and that they had approved it. I then spoke to Canyon who said they would put through the charge again so the order can progress. Looks like they forgot, and my order was stuck in limbo.
Canyon today confirmed my payment has been succesfully processed, and that UPS will have the bike on the way to me tomorrow.
Hoping it arrives in time for me to build it at the weekend, but I think that it optimistic. At least I'll have the pedals to, erm.... look at.FCN: 3 on the singlespeed, 4 on the roadie.0 -
Sounds very similar to my situation... they tried to take payment yesterday and my bank thought it was fraud so blocked it. I sorted it yesterday and told Canyon they could now try again - and I got an automated email this morning saying it would be with UPS within 48hrs so I thought it was sorted.
But from what you've said mine could be in limbo too! The most frustrating thing is they rarely seem to be able to give a straight answer.0 -
Worth following up with a quick call to Canyon. I assumed that the "48 hours" email meant the payment had gone through and I'd be getting the bike soon. I'm annoyed that I waited 5 days before following up, as it now means I probably won't have the bike until after the weekend, which means waiting until next weekend to build it, and then probably the week after before I get the opportunity to ride it.
Not such a big deal in the scheme of things - I think someone earlier said something like "you soon forget about the wait once you get the bike" (or similar).FCN: 3 on the singlespeed, 4 on the roadie.0 -
It only takes 20 minutes to build; really. I wouldn't wait until the weekend.0

Someone at Canyon must have seen your post, a review of the Grand Canyon CF SLX 8.9 (carbon 29er hardtail) has just been added to the Canyon site.

Do UPS deliver on Saturdays? According to the Canyon tracker, my bike had a departure scan at Barking at 10.24pm last night, but the tracker also says delivery will be Monday. Barking is 13 miles from me. I could go collect it myself if they'd let me!FCN: 3 on the singlespeed, 4 on the roadie.0

I would have thought so - try phoning the Barking depot directly to see if you can collect. Mine got shipped yesterday, should be arriving Tuesday!0

You won't get a Saturday delivery. That is a premium service. Only Royal Mail deliver Saturday for the standard price.0
