I have another question to all Nerve AM owners. Has anyone gone tubeless with the original DT Swiss 1800 on their Nerve? If yes, what did you do/use exactly, thanks

I had them on my nerve xc 8. Used stan's standard kit, was reasonably easy to get the nobby nics sealed, once I knew what I was doing!

Thanks, so do the standard kit includes valves, tape and sealant? I was under the impression that I needed only the valves and the sealant.

The standard kit has rubber rim strips with integrated valves, and comes with a bottle of sealant. My X1700s needed this to seal; you can check yours but I'd have thought they'd be the same. They aren't UST rims anyway.

My Canyon Experience So far...Not going Well!

I've only ever heard/read good things about Canyon bikes and for the money nobody else gets close, so i was expecting great things from my new purchase and dealings with Canyon.

I took Delivery of my Canyon Grand Canyon AL 7.9 ( in White, which looks stunning in the flesh) on Friday last week, Didn't get chance to build it up till monday night though.

I was absolutely gutted when i took the frame out of the box to discover 5 defects which include 2 seperate paint scratches/chips , a marked seat post and decal marks....Not a good start!

I emailed canyon and told them of my problems, to which they replied pretty quickly, They asked for photo's of said faults so that they could decide a way forward in resolving my issues.
In all fairness to them they have given me 2 options so far, 1 is to rebox and they will collect and supply a new bike or they would give me £50 back as a good will gesture for the defects.

Do you think £50 is fair?? I don't, especially as i could have got one of these last month with £85 off! but i was too late in ordering so i've paid this years prices.
I believe they have upgraded the brakes to Elixer 3's from 1's and changed the grips, but everything else is the same as last years model.

I'm currently waiting for a response from them as i said i think £100 back is more like it, I could live with the marks if i thought i'd not paid top dollar for it but at full RRP i cannot.

Am i being picky by wanting more ££'s off or would you just send it back and get another?

Think i know what most of you will say lol :D
I will keep you informed of my situation ( if your interested lol).

If its going to bug you just swap the bike, £50 isn't generous but it's about right although it doesn't buy much to cheer you up.
  • As they have offered to swop it then I'd say its fair enough. Annoying yes but these things happen. The £50 is just the equivalent of what it would cost them to post out a new one and collect the one you have.

£50 is more than adequate WHEN they have offered a replacement.

If it was £50 or nothing... sure you may have a case but the free of charge replacement - you can't pass that up! Unfortunately these things happen :(

Its going to get marked, chipped etc on the first ride out anyway, and for the value of the kit, ive already said to my otherhalf if she fancies buying a new frame in the summer, the kit is that good just transfer it all across and then a new bike in less than 12 months!

I'd say take the money, don't bother with the major faff of sending it back, buy a nice piece of bike stuff to cheer yourself up, and ride it. By the end of the first ride you won't care any more.

I was incredibly pee'd off when mine got damaged in transit, very soon after I got it (my fault) but the frame now has so many scratches and scuffs on it from being ridden as intended (and a bit more probably  ) that I just shrug them off.

  • Same.
    Take the money.
I try my hardest to keep my Nerve pristine and quite often get comments if it ever gets ridden. However look closely and its got scuffs and scratches all over the place and also a couple of heavy dents. No body notices, I don’t care and its not damaged its functionality. Its inevitable going to happen anyway. Spend the £50 on helitape to prevent further inevitable mis haps and get yourself something nice courtesy of Canyon.

They gave me £50 (well, £48 and something as the euro changed pretty dramatically the day they did the transfer!) for a couple of minor chips. I was more than happy with this.

They've offered to swap it, if you are that bothered swap it. I've knocked my bike over on concrete and taken a few hits off loose rocks since I got it, so I don't know which scratch is which now.
  • Can people post some pictures of their Canyon bikes? It's always nice to see them in the real world / cold light of day rather that their "perfect" catalog shots.

Cheers, I've taken a look. If anything they look better in real life, especially in the bright colours.
  • If BR had a 'like' button, I'd have pressed it. very nice. Is the blue all standard?

  • Yeah, this was it's first outing so no changes at all.

Only change i've made so far is putting some Crank Bro's Cobolt grips on, no real need for any major upgrades so far although the Elixir 1's are just ok so will probably get new brakes in time. Really pleased with it for a sub £1000 bike, 2x10 took some getting used to but ok with it now.

my strive in the lcoal trails for burnside

Still loving the bike, had a chainsuck problem however solved, the chain device was seizing up as the washers were in the wrong palce (this form factory) also a few of the bolts that are meant to have loctight on them didn't- well worth takign the bike to a LBS to get the once over, cost me £60 but it rides amazingly well now :)

Re hangers, I use Pilo, nice colours as well, http://www.pilo.co.il

The Canyon ones are pretty weak.
Thanks, I have got a Pilo on now, but I need a spare (or 2!), the one I was pointing to are coming from the States, total costs for 2 is around $45 (which is about £29). Don't know if they are stronger than the Canyon ones but for the price I was ready to take a risk.
    Thanks
    JC
Hangers came this morning and the good news is that they are Pilos. So if you are not in a rush wort ordering from them (derailleurhanger.com), that's 2 hangers for just under £30 delivered, and I think you get a free one for every five ordered, but beware of the Custom & Excise if you go over the minimum allowed.
PS: ORdered on October 23 and arrived on November 3

this always makes me laugh, you could have always bought something from one of the big names with a similar spec for a hell of a lot more, fair enough its a pain this happens, but you could go out, first ride on a perfect bike, have an off and chip/scratch it etc, the only way they stay perfect is by not using them, accept the money, accept the mahoosive saving you made by not buying from one of the so called big boys and ride it and enjoy

Think I saw one of his earlier posts so got a feeling he was planning on taking all the bits off and selling the frame which might explain better the issue with the defects. Mind you its one of the reasons I went for the anodised finish, its pretty bombproof.

Get it ordered. It'll be here in time for the nice weather.
