Does anyone know what the main changes from the 2012 Nerve XC to the 1013 Nerve AL? I know the name changed and some of the finishing equipment has changed but has there been any change to the frame? Any tweaks?0

Oh, what a delightful colour scheme!0 -
I preferred the 2012 colour scheme and spec list but the new 2013 Nerve AL+ bikes are superior due to the slacker head angle and the 142x12 rear axle
I wonder what Canyon done to get an extra 10mm of travel, the shock is the same as the 2012 models (190/50) If I could get a frame only option I would take one tomorrow!!0 -
Does anyone have any thoughts about the new Nerve AL 29? Does this primarily look like an XC bike (like the Scott Spark or similar), or will it be capable of handling rough trails?0
-
Hi, does anyone have a Canyon AL 29? looking at getting one in the new year once Crimbo is out the way, currently looking at the sizing and wondered how people found the sizing for this model. I'm 5'8 and looks like it's going to be the small for me. I will measure up and try and compare sizes to current 26" hardtail too, but would like to know if people found them long or short etc0
-
My OH has the female nerve, its in xs and comes up quite big in height and small in reach, undecided what size to get myself next year, my camber is a m and fits like a glove, have an eye on the 29er hardtails.
All i can say is how great my OH nerve is, wish i had seen them before getting my camber, but saying that my camber is an awesome bike as well!0 -
I'm considering a Nerve AL 8.0, I'm unsure which would suit my riding better, the AL with 120mm front and back or the AL+ with 150mm front and back. I tend to ride cross country mostly and will be riding trail centers a little too, would 120mm suffice? I currently ride a hardtail with 100mm forks so either is going to be a big change.
Could someone summarise the pros/cons of 120mm and 150mm or point me at somewhere that already does.
Thanks0 -

120 will be more than enough, imo.
Plus, the AL is lighter!0 -
Calling you Torque Ex & Strive riders......Iam torn between the two...........Iam looking for a new do it all bike. Iam just wondering if the Strive will handle uplift days and freeriding?
I know the the Torque will do everything but iam just wondering how it pedals.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.0 -
The old 2012 strive ( which I have) has fox 36s on the front so handles anything bar full w/c downhill without any issues and climbs better than it has any reason to
The torque is very much freeride and from a couple of guys I know who have one you wouldn't be wanting it to ride uphill....0 -
the forks are the only thing thats putting me off the 2013 Strive, their the basic Fox 34 CTDs.0

I find my Torque pedals like a burley old trail bike. It actually pedals fine, it's just not as sophisticated as a proper trail bike. Mine comes in at about 35lbs so it's not exactly hard to motor about on. Build it up light and it can be pedalled up and down stuff ok.0 -

The Torque pedals ok. Mine is the older 170mm version, I don't know if it makes a difference to the new 180mm ones. It's not nippy by any means, but it really doesn't bob and finds traction on technical climbs very well. Mine's built up light at 34lbs which helps. It feels like an old trail bike when pedalling around rather than something more sophisticated.0 -

Ideally I would get the Strive but the spec on the one in my price bracket aint that good....it has the basic shock n fork which dont have much adjustment. For the money the Torque EX Gapstar is better specced.0
-
I was in the same spot, between Torque and Strive and end up with Torque EX Gapstar. That's an incredible bike for it's price. Lyric DH with ccdbAir compared to entry level fox on Strive, that's just no-brainer for me.0
-
How does the Gapstar pedal?...I know its no XC whippet and Iam no iron man.lol....I used to lugging my 160mm freeride bike round trail centres so not that fussed it its a bit lardy compared to the strive.0

ifindoubtflatout wrote:How does the Gapstar pedal?...
It will pedal hard, that's for sure. At the same time a buddy of mine is climbing with Torque FRX with 180 fork /16.8kg /and he is doing pretty good.
The terrain I enjoy the most is alpine style, the climbs are close to impossible and I have to push/carry the bike.
Some thought:
1: Elixir 5 are not my favorite breaks / i have them atm/ maybe ill change my mind with 200/200 rotors .
2: The cranks are too heavy, but also very strong. / almost 500g can be saved here /
3: No dropper post, for me that's not an issue.
4: I'm skeptical about the wheelset, but it should be strong enough.
Initially I was thinking about Strive 9.0 Race. Light and fragile bike. The perfect bike for advanced riders, that don't fall and hit the rocks. In my case that's impossible and all these xx1 parts are crying for issues.
Cheers0 -
lol.........your riding sounds very similar to mine....so looks like I will be ordering my Torque Ex when my new flexible friend comes.lol.
As for the brakes they will be coming straight off! Ive never own Avids but after our week in France this year I dont want any. 5 of us went, 4 were running Avids and I was running Formula K18's and every pair of Avids boiled within 2 days. I will be swapping for a set of 2013 SLX's..............only £115 for the set from Rose bikes.:)........Iam still undecided if Iam putting a reverb on yet and the wheels should be ok, the rims are basically Stans Flow rims which are good, its the bearings in the hubs that are the main gripe with wheels. Iam fairly heavy on wheels so I think these will be binned within 12 months.lol0 -
Are you sure new SLX breaks can handle 2500m descends without overheating? My elexirs are gone in 10min, a friend's fomrula rx are not better. To be honest what pisses me the most are breaks! I was thinking to sell the 5s and get Hope M4, but if they can compare to the new XT/Slx, or even Zee / i've heard good things about them, especially on long descends/ i will get them. Expensive parts are not the best if there is a big chance to break them on your first ride, rofl
Are the sunringle rims actually Stans Flow?0 -
Ive heard nothing but good reports regarding the SLX's..........we did the Mountain of hell this year and a few guys I know ran them with no probs. From what Ive read all Stans rims are Sun ringle re-badged the same as Superstar componants rims are Alex rims.
The XT brakes are good aswell but Ive been told the pad adjustment is useless so that why Iam having the SLX's,the SLX'x are lighter aswell.0 -
