The Canyon bikes thread

Well she currently has a Giant XTC EX we brought in 2005 ish, got it while in fort william as her saracen fell apart and she wanted a proper bike. Went to the forest of dean sunday and the bike just died a death.
Spent all day monday rebuilding her giant, new wheels, stem, handlebars, mech, shifters all donated from my retired Orange P7, and she walks in and sayes i want a new one, so we went online and the canyon seemed the best buy. Wish i had spotted them a few weeks back as ive only just took delivery of my new speshi camber, i guess if i can have a new bike so can she, although have no idea where its going to live! 4 bikes in the flat already!0 -
now a couple of weeks in and a couple of decent rides to assess the Strive
Firstly, swapped the Fat Alberts out for some High Rollers (super tacky on the front) immediate improvement in turn in and lateral grip but noticeably slower rolling
After a bit of setting up the suspension is now amazing, really plush and it has a great floaty feel
Had a bit of transmission issue, and some really bad chain suck on the first couple of rides however putting a little more tension in the chain seemed to sort this and the shifts are now slicker
Overall couldn't be happier it tackles some pretty hairy stuff better than I thought it would, skill compensator coming into full force here I think-
I also used the reverb far more than I thought I would and now I move my seat all the time.
My mate after riding mine bought one as well, he went for the strive ES 8 - which has better wheels, full xt groupset (mine has to do with SLX shifters and front mech) and elixr 7 brakes as well as the FIT version of my fork (seems more hassle than its worh tbh, 30 mins of fettling and it's still not right), its a great matt black colour and amazingly feels different to mine to ride.
His took a week to deliver and after all the price drops and changes in exchange rate he only paid £200 more than I did...0 -
Changed the thread title as the old one didn't seem appropriate anymore, hope everyones enjoying their bikes.Eddy Merckx EMX-3

2013 Canyon Bikes are online:
http://www.canyon.com/_uk/eurobike2012/
Rebrand on the Nerve XC (presumably to avoid confusion with their actual XC models) and 10mm more travel on the Nerve AM frame. oh and a whole bunch of other things.0 -
I'm particularly liking the new new graphics on the Strives top tube and the Nerve AL+ looks gorgeous and is definately slacker than previously. Will be a big seller.
Plenty of signs of FOX D.O.S.S. posts and electronic suspension widgets strapped to frames. Spank finishing kit is a nice touch if it remains on production models.
In my eyes the renaming of products to Nerve AL (aluminium) or CF (carbon fibre) etc has got to be because the new Strive AL is going to spawn a Strive CF model next year.
Snot green Canyon Nerve AM 8.0x0 -
Hopefully they do a frameset only option for the Nerve AL+0

Strive looking a bit lighter, forks down to a fox 34 as opposed to the 36 s on mine so maybe going more am than enduro?
Glad I got the 2012 now!0 -

When did you order?
I ordered a Nerve AM 6 (listed as "in stock") on Sunday and although I've had the confirmation email quoting week 35 delivery (i.e. this week), I've still not had a dispatch email yet...0 -

I've followed this helpful and varied thread while deciding whether to buy a Canyon, so I thought I should share my experience. I ordered a Grand Canyon AL 6.0 on Aug 21st and immediately received an email acknowledging the order. On Aug 23rd, I received an order confirmation along with an invoice which showed delivery in CW35 (Aug 27th-31st). On Aug 30th, I received two emails, the first saying that my bike would ship shortly, and the second saying that it had shipped.
The bike arrived in the morning today (Sep 3rd). I assembled it with the kids in the afternoon sunshine, and gave it a good go (no time to try really rough terrain yet). The brakes came set up the right way around, the Reba fork was set at the recommended pressure for my body weight, tyres were inflated just right, and position on the bike was just right with the seat post almost all the way out to the line, but not quite (I'd used and gone with the PPS). Derailleurs are set up perfectly, as are the brake levers, although there's no room in the set up for the gear indicator units. I'm moving from a bike that had indicators fitted, but I didn't seem to miss them on today's ride.
The bike looks and feels fantastic, and value for money is beyond question. I'll buy from Canyon again.0 -
OH's nerve 8.0 w turned up today, out the box well packaged and all the right spots protected. Built the bike up, not sure if i like the raw alu , might grow on me. Forks and rear suspension no air in ethier, brakes fully setup and ready to roll and gears all working.
Dropped some air in, quick blast on the kids bmx trail all seems in order, we ordered the xs so i can just chuck it round, oh got on, length and standover all perfect. Had trouble in the past trying to find her a bike this was pot luck and seems to be spot on.
Would i order another, oh yes, can't fault the spec full xt drivechain, ex shifters which are slx, dt swiss wheels, its a well specced bike for £1.5k hope it encourages my OH to really get into biking again.0 -

Exactly the experience I had with the exception that my forks came with no air in them. Easily rectified with the supplied shock pump. I've since upped the pressure in the rear shock and dropped the pressure in the tyres but both were definitely rideable from out of the box.0 -
Yeah, as I've always said, canyons, from what I've heard elsewhere, seem to arrive in a good state.
The only things you need to assemble are things that you would need to adjust to suit your person anyway:
Seat post (for the height)
Bars (for the angle)
Shock/fork pressures (for the weight of you)
And then you have to put on a wheel - well that's a thing you do after every ride anyway isn't it?
Therefore there is no hardship involved.0 -

I'm a big Canyon fan and have just ordered a new one... 29er this time (road bike previously) and strangely a bike that has been available immediately hasn't been even shipped yet despite the fact that I made the order last Friday I hoped to ride it on the weekend but what a disappointment0
