It was known for quite a while, firstly a couple of vids with Joe Barnes and then Orange leaked some photos onto fb.

That does my head in. That and putting tapered rear maxles in pro 2s.

What a ridiculous bit of spec-cutting as well on a £3000 bike... I reckon I'd really like one of those but it's obvious a big chunk of the money doesn't go anywhere near the bike.

Also they're still doing that incerdibly cheeky thing where they sell the bottom bracket upgrade for more than the parts cost at retail, and don't supply the original BB which you've already paid for. Grr.

A nine speed SLX equipped bike, with bog standard Elixirs, budget Mavic Rims and relatively cheap finishing kit... for 3k?!

Some expensive bike builds, it just looks like they took the budget and threw it at a parts catalogue. In this case, it looks like they missed.

  • I get the feeling this place is some what anti Orange!

When I got my old 2006 5 Pro Hope it was listed as all XT + Hope. Had an issue with the cassette and my lbs said it was because I was using a Pro 2 hub with cheap cassette :? Went over to the Orange factory (I'm local) and they said it'd be fine but upgraded me to the top of the line Sram cassette on the spot for a couple of quid. I was very happy.

Not going to get in to a Orange good/bad debate as I'm a 100% fanboy since the early 90's but does it not make sense that a British built frame may cost more then one from Taiwan? Money's in the frame on an Orange.

Would have thought the frames would be cheap by now. They've been punting the same stuff for decades.

    I agree about the cassette.

If they'd fitted a suitable cassette in the first place it'd never have been an issue! And that was 5 years ago, what Sonic's pointing out is they're still doing the same crap today.

    That's not being anti-Orange, that's being pro-the-bleeding-obvious.

Aye, Rockshox released that fix for Hope's problem, though it's still not a perfect fit, the things still snap... But Orange happilly shipped bikes with the combo of tapered axles and pro 2s for ages, knowing it was a bad combo.

If I had about 3k to spend, I'd like to test one of these:

In fact at that money for that spec, I'd just buy it! Sub 30lbs with 180mm at each end!

Oh, sorry no that's the '08!

Still, the "if it isn't broke" method worked so well for the british Car industry.

To be fair, that was "it's broke, don't fix it" ;)

It's a fairly different bike tbh... It's a bit like looking at a new hardtail and saying it's just 2 triangles welded together, like every other hardtail. New geometry, different pivot positions, built for bigger forks (plus, I think the new one's lighter than the last version as well as more forky)

The car industry was more todo with the lazy work force spending more time on strike than anything else as with other things in this country but thats a whole other subject .

you and others on this forum do seem to have a problem with said make but no one is asking you to buy one or is it just that everything you buy is just perfect and the best
as im sure you buy stuff others would think was a stupid move as we are all different .

I've had 2 Oranges (1996 C16R and a 2001 Patriot LT) and I love the thought of a British built bike. I also ride a Roberts road bike which is about as British as it gets.

Their bikes win test after test (albeit in UK mags) and every other bike in Morzine is a 224. However, when other manufacturers show what seems to be so much innovation I could never bring myself to part with £3k for such old tech. Maybe I'm missing something but for big hit fun I'd go Trek Scratch 8 for example. Or RM Slayer or a Lapierre Spicy.

Ask monkey he was taking the mickael :P, just as it is every human beings right to take the micky.

And neither are we slamming orange for making over priced or poorly made bikes here, we are just pointing out it doesn't really look all that new a design :) so put your misses panties back on fella take a chill pill and allow yourself to see the irony of orange at times.
