Apparently the sks ones are the ones to get, although I have a set I have not fitted them yet.

Anyone know how easy they are to fit, as I will hopefully be doing a tire change soon.

    thanks

    sam
  • SKS are definitely the best, but fitting them has been described as "tricky" in the past. I didn't have many problems, though, but I'm ace, me.

Yeah, SKS Chromoplastics here. I had a bike shop fit mine, but I can't see how it would be that big a deal (easy for me to say).

Easy job, half an hour max.

You'll need either a hacksaw or bolt croppers for a neat job on the 'tails' though.
FCN 5 belt driven fixie for city bits
CAADX 105 beastie for bumpy bits
    Litespeed L3 for Strava bits

Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast.
  • Woot - joining the club! Frame and forks on the way, just have to decide on groupset and wheels. I like this bit! Likely to be Tiagra and RS20s for the performance to cash ratio.

Congrats on joining. Tiagra's a good groupset, I had it on mine for a while, works well. For my part, the frame/bike isn't just comfortable, it's fun!! Enjoy!

  • My current bike runs mostly Tiagra and it's fine for what I need, the Sora shifters need to go though. The button on the side makes them pretty useless in the drops.

Just need to weigh up between a whole new gruppo, or transfer parts and a second hand upgrade on the shifters, leaving more money for other goodies.

    Whats your budget?
  • Still working that out! Just keeping an eye out for a good deal at the moment and pricing things up. Ribble are doing a good price on the 10sp Tiagra group...

I intend to use this bike to commute on a canal path that is uneven, muddy and in some cases just rubble.

Is this going to be ok, I realise people may say I should get a cross bike, but having just bought this and given that the correct number of bikes is n-1, that's out of the question.

If this is not a good idea I guess I can stick to the mtb.

    cheers

TCR Composite is aluminium (mostly) and the Advanced is carbon.
    Not correct at all.
The Giant TCR composite is ALL carbon frame. The TCR Advanced is advanced grade carbon frame. They both have advanced grade carbon forks.
The difference is the grade of carbon used for the frame. The advanced is a lighter, stiffer frame.

Indeed - as I pointed out in a later post...

And I should also mention that both the Composite and Advanced versions of that Giant are blummin' lovely (I've had the chance to ride both over the weekend).

Is it? Well one could always make the seller an offer. Doesn't matter to me either way.

I really like the Grey that the Equilibrium 10 comes in, more than the red. It's a shame they wont sell you the framset in grey or has nobody asked?

  • Well, frame and forks arrived and look nice in the grey, although I am not anti cherry red and still would have bought it had it been. Budget was tight but I've pulled the trigger on a fairly tidy if basic spec, new RS20's and Deda cockpit, SH tiagra levers and carrying over some bits from the ol GT. By the time I sell whats left over it should be a pretty low cost upgrade if not the new dream build i had in the back of my mind.

At least there will be plenty of room for upgrades.

The cherry red paint job on mine is slowly becoming a two tone custom affair - cherry red with '91 Ford Fiesta red splatter effect.

The paint quality is very poor, it chips so easily. However I'm happy to keep touching it up as it looks proper badass!
  • might have to invest in a roll of helicopter tape if it is that soft.

The paint chips add character, helicopter tape adds weight and looks messy.

Just touch it up with some grey paint, or some clear nail varnish. Then when the paints properly shagged, get it powder coated black like that one up^ there somewhere.

I'd agree the paint job is not the best. At some point mine will get stripped and repainted. It'll still be red though.....

Made the MONUMENTAL mistake of buying SKS chromoplastic mudguards, should come with a Krypton Factor warning. Jesus they are an absolute ballache to fit. Which leads me onto my first question!

Theres a hole on the back of the fork (behind the brakes) which lines up nicely with the metal bracket on top of the mudguard. However all of the bolts are of the same diameter and are all fractionally too small to screw into it. Am I missing a trick here?

Would you get it sprayed or powder coated. Powder coating is thick so also quite likely to chip AFAIK?
