I am looking at the 00 to replace my knackered charge- I am 5' 9" and have a 30" inside leg, what size do you reckon? 54?

54 sound right, I'm just under 6ft on 56. Evans stock them and they will send any in stock bike to any store for you to try without obligation. Just phone them and ask. That way you can check out the size and have a test ride. If it's a choice between two sizes they can send both.

Thanks. I actually popped into Evans on the way home and tried the 54 20 they had and it did feel ok, although it was pretty much at the maximum of its size settings. Speaking to the guy in Evans and the guy at another bike shop at they both felt the 56 may be the better option. I am a bit torn and can't find a 56 to try!

Ended up looking at the geometry and taking into account the fit of my italia I went for the 54. £680 seems a good price for the 00, looking forward to my new commuter!

I have a 56 that you can try if you can get to Kings Cross during your lunchtime or something. I should be riding in next Monday. PM if you would like to give it a go. Note that I do have a rather high rise stem on it but it should give you some idea.
  • Apparently the first batch of the 853's have been delivered to dealers...

Thanks but I ended up ordering a 54, which is absolutely fine. Shame there is a rusty bubble on the fork and I am awaiting a replacement!

I went to fit a bottle cage on the seat tube today but it wont fit due to the front derailleur clamp being in the way, I'm guessing im going to have to pack it out with washers? anyone here done it?

Yes... I think there's some post about it earlier in the thread....

Edit: search this topic for bottle cage for the info.... Only seems to affect smaller frames....

Finally got my 2013 00 up and running today. Commuted in and it felt good. Lighter than the old charge but nowhere near as light as the Italia. Ride also felt rougher than the Italia but I think that is because the frame geometry is less relaxed. The brakes are rubbish- I had some salmons at home so after assembly yesterday and noting that the brakes were not really doing much I swapped over to the better pads. The bike now stops but the brakes feel like they are just bending! You brake, feel them engage and then if you want a bit more power you squeeze more but you just feel the calipers bend!

So what is good in black and long drop then? ;)

The best long drops are Shimano R650. Unfortunately only available in silver, but you'd be hard pressed to know they were long drops once they were on. I wouldn't look at anything else.

Shimano used to call them Ultegra Long Drop to give you an idea of the standard.

I thought that might be the answer. It seems a shame to spoil the nice colour scheme but I think stopping might be more important! ;)

    Paint them?

Good brakes though, it was the final solution on mine....

I think I will be able to live with silver brake calipers! If it was on the italia on the other hand I might cry like a baby. ;)

Long shot but would anyone have a set of standard equilibrium bars in a 42cm c to c for sale.

    thanks

I might have a set of bars for you. I'll measure the ones I have tomorrow.
  • About six weeks back, I was rear-ended by a car whilst on the Equilibrium, breaking my mudguard and causing damage to the rear wheel. Finally, the driver has got around to telling this insurer what happened. They said get a quote and we'll send you a cheque, so I took her along to a very nice bike shop in Edinburgh and to my horror, they wanted to keep her in until Thursday so the mechanic could do all the checks he wanted to: frame alignment, drivetrain, pretty much everything.

Now I appreciate this is excellent service, but if I'd known she was staying overnight, I'd have packed her teddy and blankey. How will she be able to sleep without them?

    Equilibrium disc

Made from Reynolds 631 (is this better or worse than 725?)

I'd be tempted to change as the black looks much better than orange

Just saw the disc version on Twitter. Looks fabulous. In the market for a winter n+1 - at 1500 quid it's head to head with a nice Condor Acciaio or Fratello build. Interesting times....

Will be interesting to see how mudguard stays fit round the discs. Looks pretty tight form here.

Everything else looks lovely, especially if they are the wheels for release....

It appears those wheels are going to be specced as standard but it's worse news re the mudguards "it means some tinkering to get the mudguard stays to clear the disc calipers but we rather not sacrifice anything whereby the ride of the bike is concerned. - in this instance the mudguards lost out"

Out of curiousity is the spec that much better than the croix de fer which is a few hundred pounds cheaper?

Better frame, better wheels, better group set. Other than that, not really.

does the croix de fer have the same issue with guards?

Has anyone fitted rack and mudguards to their bike? Looks like I may have to do towing duty on a family mini tour and the italia has a carbon seatpost which I don't want to clamp the trailer bike to!

Discs look much worse than rim brakes though!

Can't help thinking that's a bit of a pointless bike. Looks very heavy, fair enough if all you want it for is to commute in wet weather, but then you may aswell buy the croix de fer and have the option of using a rack aswell.

    Exactly!
