Motivation has deserted me this month I'm afraid. The weather this last couple of weeks has been gash, the wind has barely dropped below 25-30mph and it's rained pretty much constantly.
The rain I can live with. The wind can fark right off though.

    This, very very much this.
Unfortunately, I rode to work today in what amounted to a drysuit, because of the chances of drowning in the rain. I don't mind rain on the bike, it's quite peaceful as there's nobody else around.
But then after getting here, it dries up and the winds started being aggressive again. Oh joy.

I get like this. Have been so for a few days now. I'm riding because I 'have to' rather than because I 'want to'. That's why I'm not going to contest the distance challenge next month.

You would not believe how much I hate the wind at the moment.

I live by the coast, so there's pretty much nothing to slow it down from the Atlantic before it hits my regular commute and local routes.

I haven't rode for a week now because the car looks so much more appealing when i see the rain coming down sideways when i look out of the window. Heading upto Llandegla on saturday for a couple of laps of red and black and that should see me done for this months challenge but i'll be more than happy with a top 10 finish. Hopefully next month will be better weather and i can get my motivation back.
What if your dreams and fears existed in the same place? What if to get to heaven, you had to brave hell? What if everything you've ever wanted cost you everything you've ever achieved? Would you still go there?

Could probably reach you if i just throw them straight up in the air and let the wind carry them :D Will have to sample a slice just to see if it really is as good as i've heard

Ditto. My ride to work takes me along the coast.
I just can't remember it ever being this windy for this long before. There's another downside too, the wind rattling against the roof of the house keeps waking me up at night, so I can't remember when I last had a decent night's sleep.

    This.

Although forecast here reckons it'll be subsiding a bit over the weekend, so I may get out for a ride yet.

It's been Westerly here, which is really unusual for us. It's usually the other way.

It's been alright down here, wind's picked up in the last week, and yesterday there were some very heavy showers, but not had a drop of rain otherwise, trails are bone dry, and I've certainly not had to don the waterproof! We get a bit of shelter from the Downs too, you know it if you head up to the top, nearly get blown off up there!

My legs are knackered though, but the girlfriend's out all weekend, so it'd be rude not to get 2 decent MTB rides in!

Yup the Downs are great fun in the wind if it's behind you, otherwise it's horrid, especially around Ditchling Beacon and the Dyke.

Managed most days this last week but hurt my lower back a bit on Wednesday so having a couple of rest days before trying to get a few more miles in before the end of the month.

Yay, driving rain and gail force winds! Again...

Was aiming for 50 miles today, but gave up after 38. I'd already used today's supply of MTFU to actually get out on the bike, so that wasn't an option.

3 days to go, with 53 miles still to do.

    Easy surely!

The only downside of this is that I do find myself thinking "hmmm, I do more miles on the road", where as I tend to enjoy my MTB far more!

Managed to upload all mine, snuck into 3rd, another 3 hours on the MTB tomorrow, not gonna make much difference though.

I also seem to have driven home once with my GPS on, so I'm cheating the fastest mile, dammit! I'll try and edit the file.

If you've driven home with GPS on one day, just change that particular workout to "yoga" or something.

I think he means he went for a ride, then drove home, so he'll have to delete the points after the ride.

That is exactly what I've done! I know I did go into the TCX file once to edit a mistake, just need to remind myself how!

I've changed the file to mountain biking, but it's still there. Who did the 29 second mile!?

    Lewis Hamilton?

That'd be an average speed of 120mph, thats some pedaling power

Well, that's me done for the month:

901.48 miles (1450.81 KM), burnt 59,940 calories and was sat on the saddle for 58 hours, 52minutes, 28 seconds. Average speed has been 15 mph (25km/h) and I've climbed 10,493 ft (3198m).

I've had 3 days not riding this month, so I know 1,000 miles is doable in a 31 day month. But that's going to have to wait a couple of months before I even think of trying that.

Time for a rest methinks...

Sent a PM asking for an invite.

My monthly milage is logged as 130 miles, elevation ascended 15141ft, 15 hours 39 mins on the bike spread over 18 rides.

    All sorted thanks!

Do I need to change to cycling instead of mountain biking though?

TQ - Invites sent and added to the challenges. Good luck.

Right guys, It may be time for a slight re-shuffle.

I've recently had a few PMs about making the challenge MTB miles only. As it's just a bit of fun, I'm not so keen to do that, but how about this:

We keep the "total distance" challenge, but open it up to include all sports, so everything, MTB, walking (no yeehaa, not that walking), jogging, swimming, turbo trainers, commuting....everything.

Then, we have a seperate challenge for MTB miles only. This can include and miles travelled riding to/from the trails, or linking trails up for example. The ride must be predominantly off-road.

Obviously, you'd not need to enter both challenges if you didn't want to. So someone who only does MTB might not want to bother with the total distance thing. The option is there if you want it though.

Personally, I think this is the best way to try and keep everyone happy. But I'd like to hear if people would be interested in this option, or if you would have any objections or suggestions.

Sounds like a good idea. Better to have a variety of challenges to give people more opportunities.

Well, I've opened up the existing June challenge and issued Invites to all of Team Crudcatcher for the NEW, MTB only challenge.

That means that as of June 1st, you can start recording your MTB rides as MTB rides again instead of Cycling, sport.

You can also start recording commutes and road rides etc seperately and they'll ALL be included in the General Distance challenge.

    + potato

I think it's getting overcomplicated now to be honest.
And things like my commute, are only partially on the road, what the hell do I class that on? (everything is done on the same bike)
