for 'normal' commuting the 50t is a bit much (running 11-25t cassette)

You should try some MTFU in your bottles, I didn't leave my 50t for commuting all winter :-)

    Pah, who needs working knees!

I personally find the 34 irritatingly small, and the jump is too big, should probably try a 36. On the summer bike got a 53/39, find the same on that too, unless I'm really pootling the 39 is a bit small, always running out of gears, but then find myself at the top of the block in the big ring unless I'm going pretty hard/on the flat.

    MTB gearing is far easier!

I take it you've never had a huge, crippling knee injury then?

There should've been a smiley in there!

I have had knee related issues a couple of times, and they're rather problematic!

Smiley? More like a grimacing smiley holding it's knee with tears of agony streaming down it's face

I must say, road miles is one thing, but turbo trainer miles does seem to go against the spirit of the challenge. Maybe I'm just jealous that I'm getting pwned though :p

How the farking flinking blip does endomondo even work with a turbo trainer, since it's GPS based?

And I concurr, turbo trainer is balls. It is to cycling what a w*nk is to sex. It roughly simulates the experience, but in a far inferior way, and should only be used when the superior option is not available at all.

Mines mostly on an exercise bike in the gym rather than a turbo, and yeah it does suck but I just can't get out for 3 hours on the bike every day, whereas fitting 2 hours down the gym a day is much simpler. Sorry?

I enter it manually, really I just use endomondo to keep track of my distance, it's a great tool. Happy to be removed from the challenge if people disagree with it though.

Well tough sh*t. I can't spend 8 hours a day on the bike either, because of work, so I don't.
    Pillock.

Incidentally, I notice my and CWNT's GPS weirdness seems to be similar...
The signal gets warped in a very similar direction each time, which makes me think that something is amiss with the GPS system. Is there some maintenance going on? Re-clocking or something?

    You miss my point.

I'm training for a charity ride in October so I need to get the miles in but can't really do it outside due to other commitments and work shifts, so because of the constant pedalling in the gym, I can fit more mileage into a shorter amount of time.

I'm not trying to offend anyone, hence my offer to drop out of the challenge, not sure it warranted being called a pillock mind you.

Welcome to the crudcatcher, mong. Is mong better?
As far as I'm concerned, excercise bikes or turbo trainers are balls. There's no wind, hills, weather, and the variation in terrain just isn't there.
If you can find time to sit on your toy bike to grind out the pretend "miles", then MTFU and get on your bike.
You have bought shame and dishonour to the crudcatcher. A feat previously deemed impossible to such a place.

Trust me, I don't need to be welcomed.

Well whatever, we'll wait until tomorrow and catwithnotail can decide. I'm not particularly fussed with what he decides. Although I must admit, being included in something brings that little extra bit of sunshine into my otherwise dull and drab life.

Or does it just irk you that you're not near the top on the challenge? Is it a fitness thing or a bone idle one?

It does not irk me at all than I am middle-of-the-pile in this bit of fun.
Let me see, why am I not on top of the leaderboard? Fitness or bone idle? Neither, you lying, tragic waste of space. It's because I have work, and things to do, and I wouldn't dream of cheating, let alone on such an ultimately pointless thing as this.
It's a bit of fun, it's something to make you take the slightly longer route home occasionally, or to head out when you'd normally stay in and wait and see if the weather improves.
It's to see how you get on over the weeks and months.

YOU are the one who's bought your arrogance cheating and goading to an otherwise fun challenge.
"ooh, might do a million miles tomorrow, got another 50K planned on Sunday". Except none of them are real.
Get over yourself, you disgusting excuse for a human being.
I hope whatever charity you're trying to raise money for realise you're a fraud, and decide to just split you up and sell your organs instead - they'd certainly get more money.

So next time we're all on our bikes, in the outdoors, getting some fresh air and enjoying ourselves whilst putting the miles in, we'll remember you, sweating away indoors, ultimately travelling nowhere except further up yourself, pretending to be covering some distance, and we'll laugh at what a pathetic, lying, cheating, mistake of a human being you are.
And then we'll all raise our post ride beer glasses to El Cap. The king of the Crudcatcher. Because he's someone who actually deserves a cheer.

    Where have I lied?

A lot of my bike riding is outdoors you know...

You know this is all in jest right? And of course it's a fun challenge, when have I ever made a point of saying that this is going to define me as a person? I'm certainly not letting it. You'll notice that last months total of miles was a lot lower then this months is already, and that's because of this fun challenge, for which I'm very thankful for.

I'm not too sure what your problem is, like I say it's all in the name of fun, and any ribbing involved is all very good natured. A lot of which is between El Cap and myself. Whom I've known for a number of years but don't speak to an awful amount, so to be able to converse with him on almost a daily basis has been a nice touch, and yeah it's a bit of competition but it's fun competition, I couldn't care less if I came 8th or 1st, at the end of the day as long as I'm doing enough training for my ride then that's all that matters. It certainly takes a front seat over your anger issues I can assure you.

Perhaps maybe if you came up with a valid argument we could debate it rather than you trying to come up with as many hurtful names as you can. Quite frankly I think you've got me all wrong. I'm not here to upset anyone, nor am I here to rustle anyone's tree's. I'd say I'm fairly new back into all this forum stuff having taken an extended break from it all, but as you'll see from my join date, I'm not an amatuer, but you've gone a long way to remind me why I don't normally bother with it all.

    :D

You're not worthy of his time, turbo trainer boy.
Not only are you a cheating scumbag, but you are clearly so utterly devoid of any Crudcatcher sensibilities that it really brings into question your whole reason for being here.
I suggest you go find some nuns to brag to about your awesome turbo trainer prowess. I hear they will not pass judgement. (They also don't pass McDonalds, which makes any long distance motorway journey hellishly long and expensive as they stop at each and every one)

How many miles are people tending to do per month? I'm tempted to join in in July and win the fecker. ;)

I suppose nearly 19000 posts on an internet forum gets you 'Crudcatcher sensibilities' does it?

That's obviously where I'm going wrong, spending too much time doing other things rather than making very very nasty posts on the internet. You wanna be careful, you may just upset someone one day. ;-)

And besides, what's with the hate for turbo trainers and excercise bikes? I don't go out in the rain because it's wet and I just can't stand getting my bike or myself wet, so at least I'm doing something right? Or not, I suppose...

Ok, sorry if I've disrupted your evening.

And I am really sorry as well because I must have done something to upset you this much. I think what's happened is after the joining of all the different forums a few years back I never really came here much, and when I did come back a few weeks ago I expected nothing to change (Well a little, but not really) and here I am being bullied into leaving by someone who calls themself Yeehaa. Not too sure where I've slipped up but I guess you must be right as there wouldn't be any other reason for your outstanding behaviour and poor atittude.

Hope you have a nice week and we'll see what sort of MASSIVE mileage I can rack up this week, I reckon at least a million miles.

 Jeeez, I wish I'd not said anything now. You 2 on the rag or something?

whyamihere - It varies quite a lot. At the moment, we've got everything from 750km (Mike and El Cap) to 0km.
There seems to be the biggest grouping around 150-250km. (remembering we're only about half way through the month).

If I can crack 900 this month, then after a bit of a rest in June, I will be aiming for 1000 miles in July.

And, just as a reminder, it's all a bit of fun. Some poeple seem to be forgetting that...

The banter between me and Mike is all part of the 'fun'. As Mike says, we've known each other for many years, both on-line, riding and racing together. Yes, I'll be disappointed if I don't beat him as I'm a naturally competitive person, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. This is why I give myself a personal target for the amount of miles I want to try and ride each month. That's the target, not winning the competition.

Hmmm, yes I'm not sure about turbo miles, I can sit at 25mph easily on my turbo (using a back wheel speed sensor with my Garmin, so can still upload it to Endomondo), so I could knock out the miles very very easily, does seem to go against the spirit somewhat though!
