I've no chance of competing with the likes of you, El Cap, mike etc but if i can manage a top 10 i'll be more than happy, i thought i'd never keep up with "real" mountain bikers but turns out our diets of bacon are similar and we all put in the miles when poss. Hopefully i'll be out tomorrow to rack up 50km or so which with a hangover will be a struggle but Endomondo is pushing me on.What if your dreams and fears existed in the same place? What if to get to heaven, you had to brave hell? What if everything you've ever wanted cost you everything you've ever achieved? Would you still go there?0 -

This what it's all about. The challenge is a motivator to get out and ride. The only person you're really challenging is yourself. That's why I give my self a mileage figure to target each month.
The fact that I'm battling with Mike is just an added bonus...0 -
I think I've just put up a slightly different challenge for June (this will obviously be in addition to the distance one).
Let me know if you've got an invite and if it makes sense. Also anyone who wasn't invited who wants to be, PM me your Endomondodododo details, so I can add/invite you.0 -
Ahhhh nice, max speed challenge.
Was thinking about something like this myself. I regularly top 40mph on the way to work and according to endomondo I topped 76mph at Llandegla yesterday0 -
Stu, if you want, I can set one of these up. I can send an invite to all the people on the Crudcatcher team you see.0
-
If I set it up correctly, it's the fastest mile rather than just the fastest speed.
Should suit the DH kamakazi element...0 -
Hmmm, I may have to revist the hill where I hit 42mph back in April.
Otherwise, 37 seems to be my top speed on a commute, on a good day.
Off road......there's barely any hills here, so only as fast as I can pedal!0 -

Go for it. Once yours is set up I'll delete mine to avoid confusion.0 -
Right, I've set one up for this month.
Invites have gone out to all of Team Crudcatcher.
Also, while I remember, I have a couple of pending requests from people to join Team Crudcatcher. I don't recognize the names though. If you've sent a request, just PM me or somethign with your name and I'll add you in.0 -

I am, but I built this up again, so needed to take it for a test ride:
I need a road bike fairly quickly. All these miles on an MTB are OK, but I picked it up earlier and nearly put my back out... :oops:0 -
Hmm. Llanberis pass might be a good place to crack this one0

Aiming to get 50 or so km in today but have a hangover from hell to contend with firstWhat if your dreams and fears existed in the same place? What if to get to heaven, you had to brave hell? What if everything you've ever wanted cost you everything you've ever achieved? Would you still go there?0

So this fastest mile thing...
How big a cliff are we allowed to ride our bikes off?
JAAAAYYYYSUS!
I'll be riding more after my exams are over.
Not had endomondo on in ages.0 -
Dammit, Just realised that the hill I had in mind to try the speed challenge on is JUST over a mile long.
How do I make sure that Endomondo takes THAT particular mile? hmm.0 -

It will do it automatically.0 -

Ah, that is good, you're right. My fastest mile so far was in Coed y Brenin, and that did not fall on the boundaries of any mile markers.
Great stuff.0 -
As far as I'm aware, it looks back through your ride when you're done, and picks out the fastest mile from the whole thing from any point.0

Riding a bike should come with a health warning, today i was chased by a doberman and attacked by geese on three seperate occasions, was a good ride out though even though the weather wasn't great. What if your dreams and fears existed in the same place? I had a crap ride today, 3 hours sleep from last night followed by massive headwinds in all directions, got about 3/4 through and just went home in the end, and to top it all off, got home, tripped over the dog and twisted my knee which was fine :-(0
-
Ignore my last ride for now. GPS signal got completely screwed up between pen-y-gwryd and Capel Curig. I'll download the GPX file and see if I can delete the obviously wrong bits.
Mind you, I do like the idea of a max peed of around 1,1173mph0 -

Sicko!
Jumped up to 4th with an epic today, although a little miffed that 6 miles have been missed and I can't add them to the challenge. Oh well, will just have to go and do another 6 to make up for it."I ride to eat"0 -
Add 6? Lol, mine says I did 75 today, and I'm going to try and edit it down to around 34, as it should be!0

Definitely a 'fail' day yesterday with no riding at all. Granted I wasn't feeling 100%, but at least wanted to actually 'ride' to have a complete month's riding - riding every day. Was starting to feel better towards the end of the day, but the 'family' came round to visit and didn't leave until it was dark and by then, I CBA.
Back on it today, but again, I've got 3 days of having to do the 'short' commute because of the changing room rota.
Also, the Council, in their infinate wisdom decided to plough up part of my route on Friday and leave the road with no surface over the weekend. You can imagine what it's like now. This is also going to have an effect on my 'normal' training/mileage laps this week until it's been repaired.
And, whilst I'm having a bit of a moan, WTF is the issue with SRAM 10spd Powerlinks? Recommended for One use only! FFS! After fitting the new chain to the TT bike on Saturday and riding it, realised the chain was too long - not a problem I thought as I'd just remove a few links. Lots of GRRRR face (and not becasue I was on the toilet so much) whilst trying to remove the Powerlink. Ended up using a chain splitter to remove the section of chain required, complete with Powerlink and buying a new one. Still, on the plus side, I did get some free energy gels and energy drinks from the LBS when I bought the new Powerlink...
And, I really think I need a triple crankset on the Focus. Been running 50/39 through the winter, but the 39t ring took a real pasting and didn't like the new chain I fitted a couple of months ago and would jump, so refitted the original 34t. Now I'm finding I'm running out of gears on the inner ring and for 'normal' commuting the 50t is a bit much (running 11-25t cassette) and the 39t limits me 'off-road' and the 39/25 set up isn't low enough really for some of the hills I tackle. So, I'm thinking of getting a 105 50/39/30 set up. Also need to go with 175mm crank length, which is what all my other bikes have. The current ones, which came with the bike are 170mm and I'm starting to feel the difference, now I've upped the mileage somewhat. From what I can see, just need the new cranks and front mech as the L/H shifter (Shimano 105 5600) will support both double and triple set-ups.
Right, rants and moans over, time to get some work done and plot my route home.

Single use powerlinks? What's the frakking point? Seriously, what IS the actual frakking, fukk fukk fukkuety point?0

yeehaamcgee wrote:Single use powerlinks? What's the frakking point? Seriously, what IS the actual frakking, fukk fukk fukkuety point?
Exactly. TBH, the 10spd ones don't seem to be made to the same 'quality' as the 8 or 9spd ones either.
Quote from SRAM website:
"SRAM chain engineers developed PowerLock as a tool free, sure and consistent way to connect our 10 speed chains. While PL does not require special tools for install, the especially tight tolerances of 10 Speed drive trains mandated that each PowerLock is good for a one-time application only. "
And, getting them on isn't as easy as a 9spd one either, needed to be 'persuaded' with a set of needle-nose pliers.0 -
So basically they're saying "We don't really know how to join 10 speed chains, so BAH!"
KMC do a reusable 10 speed one I think.
Anyway, that's justified my decision to let the early adopters try this stuff out and find any awkward nonsense first.0
